Is anyone watching Watchmen

I’ve purposely ignored it since I saw what they did was to Rorsharch. Turning him into some KKk symbol is the typical bullshit I hate from “woke” Hollywood today.

Also, I just hate the idea that hacks in Hollywood are using comic franchises to as a coat of paint to rebrand the same old shit.

When did fighting white supremacy become “woke” shit. Seems like basic human decency to take out that trash.

What a coincidence, just so happen these are the same poeple thinking any criticism or disagreement is white supremacy, but surely the're just talking about the "real" white supremacists. :messenger_winking:

I took it as Rorshach's manifesto being co-opted by a hate group, as hate groups DO like to take seemingly innocuous things and turning them to shit but your perspective is equally as valid, as far as what the show has given us information wise. I'm not convinced it's the same shit...yet.

I have this weird want for Dr. Manhattan to reassemble Rorshach's molecules and have him confront the cult parroting his extremist mantras.

Link to people thinking and believing this?
I saw a bunch of peeps saying that very shit on resetera like two weeks ago. I'm not finding links but basically, people are very drastically misunderstanding the character of Rorshach right now. The sentiment is that the show is making a statement about Rorshach when it's really making more of a statement on how hate groups can warp the past.

*shrugs*
People will see what they want to see anymore.

If people want to believe that then they can continue to do so and be wankers. If they have any real interest in exploring his character they'll read the comic or watch the movie.
I'm pretty excited to see episode 4 myself.

I haven’t read the books or seen this HBO shit but I love the movie and Rorshach is an amazing character.

This guy is so broken by his personal moral code, so desperately trapped by it, that he lives as a homeless person and chooses truth and death over saving the world.

He’d rather watch the whole world burn itself to the ground then do something personally immoral.

Why THE FUCK would he be a White supremacist? That ruins his entire fucking schtick.

Fuck HBO, was gonna try their streaming service and now I’d rather stick my dick in a blender.

He isnt a white supremacist. Hes still dead. A bunch of white supremacists took Rorshach's manifesto and co-opted it. The group, the 7th cavalry, take the shit Rorshach was Frank Miller-ing about in the original watchmen and force it to fit their specific spectrum of racism/prejudice. This is just hate group 1-0-1 as far as how they use pre-established shit within society to strengthen their cause yet weaken their enemies.

So no, rorshach is not a white supremacist in the HBO show.

And The 7th Cavalry haven't even been in the show that much. They are just the backdrop to get the story started.

Honestly, I think with TV shows going forward at GAF we need to have two seperate threads. One for those people who want to discuss a show and its episodes and the other for those who just tell everyone why they're not going to watch it and have no intention of ever watching it.

A thread for sycophants for the show? Seems like a waste.

Bitch please, you just want a place to fellate Lindelof in peace.

If you want an echo chamber, there is another forum with your name on it.
And yikes at this elitist forum bullshit again. Imagine thinking you're an important person on an internet forum lmao

Nah, it's pretty annoying when people try and muscle in "their own" opinion when they haven't even watched the show and just watch/listen/read to right leaning psychos. And just to clear up what I mean, there are both left and right leaning psychos and I'm 100% positive there are a ton of right leaners who love this show. It's just that these right leaning nuts are just as annoying and "dangerous" to society as the left leaning nuts.

No Nut November getting to you?

But all joking aside maybe actually read what I've written, versus what you think I've written. LOST not great ending, Prometheus Terrible film, but not entirely Lindelofs fault, The Leftovers fantastic. It's based on the last one that Lindelof is buying himself some goodwill here.

Given the way Watchmen opened, I was a bit uncertain as everyone, but we're 3 episodes in (with a 4th today) and it's starting to come together. I honestly don't see what's wrong with that.

At the end of the day though, I'd far rather read opinions from people who watched a show and hated it fuelled by reasons, versus read the opinions of people who hate a show but didn't watch it fuelled by preconceptions. I dare say I'm not alone in that regard.

I mean why take them seriously? You wouldn't take a food critic seriously who didn't eat dishes now, would you?

This just gets better and weirder each episode. I’m locked in now. Angela gives me serious Rorschach vibes in terms of her candour. The worst thing that happen to this is that all the plot threads it weaves amount to nothing.

I think it's gradually coming together.

Episode 4 Random thoughts: -

The whole Billionaire swooping in and buying up the farmstead before the meteorite hits was a neat spin on the whole superman myth and it does make me both wonder as to when that event took place in terms of the timeline and whether Lady Tru's daughter has anything to do with and or if it is perhaps linked to Wills Pills (maybe she's synthesizing bioproducts or some such?). The Daughter having the IV drip makes me wonder if they're tapping her for blood?

Laurie having Angela between her sights was pretty interesting, plus Angelas attempts to distance herself from Will and the scene at the railway bridge with Lube Boy (legit thought he was going to set himself on fire tbh).

Looking Glass clearly has a real fascination for the squid fall phenomena and it looks like we might be in for a Looking Glass centric episode next week Tim Blake Nelson killing in tbh.

Damn that night time lake scene with Jeremy Irons was a real 'wait what?' moment when you realise what exactly he's fishing out of those traps. Also goddamn it with that incubator and the inhuman screams ...

Still, it appears that every scene is a year on judging by the candles on the Cake and his acknowledgement that he'd been there for 4 years. Though where there is is still open to speculation...

For anyone else watching the show I’d recommend checking out the official podcast for it. It’s Lindelof discussing the show with the writer of Chernobyl. There’s just been one episode so far, which covers episodes 1-3 but there’s some really interesting insight in it.

Just wondering but how far did you get?
Show doesnt get good until episode 3, then fucking lifts off through the stratosphere.

I think the lubeman scene is the best thing I've seen all year.

I think a lot of people here just tapped out early on because they mistakenly believe that the show is sermonizing, whereas, in reality, it's just a case of the writers setting the table in a 'what if' sense, following in the footsteps of original graphic novel did. I think so far the show has been great (I'm particularly loving the whole Ozymandias stuff), but the threads already been over-run with ill-informed inarticulate drive-by hot takes of 'Not watching' types who have pretty much killed the conversation around it. As someone who genuinely hankers for the days of OT GAF being a place for enthusiast TV & Film talk/discussion I'm steadily reaching the conclusion that it's more trouble than it's worth because unfortunately most of the people who were into that left for Era, and the ones who remain or have since joined are just on a perpetual witchhunt for SJW BS to offended about (ironic really) whether it be games, films, TV or social media. The circle jerk of negativity is both neverending and boring as fuck.

So I watched the first two episodes, liked them a lot, but got sidetracked the last few weeks.

just binged 3, 4, and 5

Brief spoiler-free thoughts

Episodes 3 and 4 started feeling very convoluted. At the end of EP4 I was asking myself “what do I care about, who do I care about, and what’s the point of all this?”

Ep5 was more focused and on track. Enjoyed it a lot. Hooked me back in.

minor criticism

Writers, having your female characters drop a “fucking” and “shit” into every other sentence pointlessly doesn’t make them edgy, tough, or hip. It gets so bad that it’s distracting, like why I’m literally asking out loud, “why is she cussing so often right now?”

To me that’s just lazy writing. Be better.

Otherwise, the show looks and sounds great. EP1, EP2, and EP5 are all great but sandwiches around two sloppy episode. I’m looking forward to tonight

Could you link it?
Im really enjoying the show. This may be an “adaptation” that Moore doesn’t scoff at if he was willing to watch.

Episode 6 is legitamately one of the single best episodes of TV I've ever seen.

Recontextualizing HJ as a black man is honestly a stroke of genius. It's not even a retcon since we barely knew shit about him before, and what we did know didn't make a lick of sense. A black man with a hanging motif and dark version of the KKK outfit? Genius.

Pretty intense episode, almost had a Twilight Zone vibe.

ive never had a seizure in my life, and other than sometimes getting a minor headache, I’ve never had issues with strobe lighting. So, when they issued the warning pre-episode I didn’t think twice.

during the strobe light scene I actually felt something strange, a headache developed quickly and my shoulder “jerked” or “twitched” once and it freaked me out, I closed my eyes and stood up suddenly just trying not to freak out. Probably something I need to discuss with my doctor next time I go in. I do have severe anxiety/panic disorders so maybe it was just medication and my mind playing tricks on me

so I there was a 10 minute stretch or so where I was just listening and not watching

I’ll give the show credit for “going for it” and and notpulling any punches with their handling of their creative decisions with the supposedly previously established characters and lore. I don’t necessarily dig everything they are doing but I can respect a “go big or go home” approach.

other than my minor strobe scare, good stuff

I don't get why they risk this shit with the strobe light, they're well aware of the risks otherwise there wouldn't be a warning at the start of the episode. Seems irresponsible.

Howling at all the SJW takes in this thread, y'all really that mad they're beating the shit out of a modern day KKK? The fuck?
Howling at the pre-2010 accounts doing the "it just KKK" routine, as if everyone else is a retard that can't connect oldgaf/Ree/modern left throwing KKK/nazi at republicans/anyone else who disagrees.

People can see through that laughable pissbaby position bro. Especially from acc's that seemed to be cool with the rancid vile scum era of gaf.
