The first few days with Stadia - I’m kinda impressed

I still don't really get it. So even if Stadia worked perfectly, you're still paying for the games plus a monthly subscription to use it? And those games are forever tied to said subscription? Why would anyone want that? It seems like the only benefit is saving a little bit of money up front, but most likely costing you more in the long run. For games running worse. It seems like all the downsides of a traditional console but with none of the benefits. It doesn't have loading times I guess? I just don't see what the purpose of this is.

It's one of the few game streaming services NOT to have an obligatory subscription fee. The 1080p/60fps tier is free as well as the multiplayer aspects of the games. So something you have to pay Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony for, is a free service through Stadia.

If you actually read the list and don't understand the flaw in your argument I'm sorry.
it has Youtube for the 3DS and the Pixelbook (3DS is dead and gone, they just released the Pixelbook go)
the vast majority of those services are being rolled into a new service.

If nobody uses something, the plug may be pulled, but Stadia is already healthy right now when it's pay to play.. it can only get more users when it goes free in feb 2020 (because even though I think it's great I don't suggest anyone pay $130 for this, but in feb when all you have to do to play is hop onto a chrome browser, buy a game and use controllers you already like and own why the hell not?)

Bob Wulff just released his impressions and they are like seriously word for word my own review of Stadia.
in talking with other users on Reddit I found that those who use Google Wifi have the best experience which may explain why I have zero hippucs, I don't even have the minor ones Bob had.

I've not watched this but I've got Google WiFi on a 380mb circuit and my experience has been fantastic. Destiny on a desktop PC has zero perceptible mouse input latency.

There is nothing free.
You need to buy the games (that is a trick part too... you buy something it is not yours).

In others streaming services you don't buy games... you just pay the sub to play any game in the service.

Not wild, we're just using the service rather than watching videos and instantly becoming experts with the 'correct' opinion on the service.

I absolutely adore the fact that you knew my post was referencing yours without me needing to explicitly say it. Quite telling.

You are running best case scenario Google internet while making lofty claims that it feels like playing on LAN and zero latency. You're basically a walking talking Google advert at this point.

Carry on.

If anything just the cost of buying games themselves on Stadia would cost more than Live + sub service.
The $$$ to buy one game in Stradia is close to have 1 year subscription on PS Now where you can play over 900 games.
MS xCloud probably will have a similar model to PS Now.

I don't support PS Now (neither xCloud) I believe it is dozens of steps back for the gaming industry and worst for the gamers.
But it is crazy how Google is trying to value its service lol

Elitist gamers who over romanticize "owning" slabs of plastic.
Why did you put "owning" inside quotes? If you bought an object that you can use at will, you own it. Do you dispute that concept?

And how is it "elitist" to prefer owning hardware versus using a streaming system that requires high speed internet to function even on the most basic level? Vast numbers of people do not have access to high speed internet, but do have the resources to own a $100 - $200 console. If anything, Stadia users with access to the infrastructure to run it well (as well as it can do, at least) are more likely to be "elite" from a socio-economic point of view. If anything, it is elitist to castigate hardware users for criticizing Stadia.

I can't remember the last time I bought a physical copy of my PC games. They're all either digital downloads or ones that require an online connection to play.

Mr. Community
So from what I gather reading this thread, if you live a few feet away from a google server farm and use google's own internet then stadia is ok as long your twitch skills are low and you are not sensible to input lag?

That's cool but not for me.

Well of course I'm having a good experience. I've got over a 300mb broadband connection and decent wifi setup? As long as the games come to the service I'll be using the service for 3rd party AAA games.

And paying a monthly fee to access the page that sells them.

Again, there are no subscription costs. I'll be reverting to the free tier because I only have 1080p Panels in my life (Laptop, TV, Monitor) The subscription plan is exactly the same as Xbox and Playstation except multiplayer gaming and cloud saves aren't shoved behind a paywall.

Are you trying to tell me that he may be a Googlist?

They won't need to market Stadia, they already have YouTube.
Are you sure that's going to help them? Google couldn't even manage to market YouTube using YouTube. Remember YouTube Red, YouTube premium, or YouTube Gaming? No? Well, neither does anyone else.

Simple question. (i don't know the answer).

Which service will allow me to play Cyberpunk in 1080p (720p maybe)without buying a harware or pay a subscription ?(Sony, Microsoft, Amazon)

If google is alone for the moment (?), then that's a huge advantage sorry.

Do you prefer to buy a $60 game instead to pay a $60 years sub to stream the same game?

I won't pay any sub in 2020. Only the base Stadia has my attention...

Which company will allow me to play cyberpunk without buying hardware ?
i have no interest in your comparisons, sorry.

I don't know how it's a "simple" question when the only way to give a proper answer is to get into connection speeds and data caps and latency etc.
Then you'll still have to buy hardware of some description depending on how you want to play?

It's never a "simple question" when the answer is going to depend on the specific circumstances of each customer.

So a guy who already owns a decent Laptop is going to be able to play on the laptop but if he also has 3 kids who are watching Youtube and streaming Netflix and playing Fortnite then the connection is probably going to have trouble.

This is quite a crazy part of the whole Stadia discussion where people are looking a the theoretical "best case" and completely ignoring the practical disadvantages before declaring it an overall huge advantage.

What would your setup even be for playing Cyberpunk on Stadia?

In theory Stadia will allow you to play Cyberpunk in 1080p (or 720p) without buying hardware or paying a subscription.
I practice there is no way to know until you pay the money for the game and see if it works for you.

This is why it was such a bad product for Google to try and launch.
Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't but you won't know until you try.

Now, you may say things like "well you could buy a PS4 from the store and it may be faulty" and that's true.
However it is not an inherent part of the PS4 design that it could be faulty.
The entire premise of Stadia is based on an unknown quantity with it being entirely dependent on connection speed.

For $60 each?

Are the prices on the store not competitive compared to Playstation/Xbox?
?

Don't listen to the snark kicking around online at the moment Re : Stadia; it's quite frankly embarrassing.

I've got the Xbox one X, PS4, Switch and Stadia.

Next year they are rolling out Stadia to all users subscription free (if you're happy with 1080p) so you can simply just pay the price of Cyberpunk and stream it,or get a console/PC and then buy it for the relevant platform.

Oh no no. 'Cause you dont have to pay to access the apple or Google store...but it you are paying, buddy...I've got news for you...

I don't have to pay anything to access the stadia store, nor do I have ANY plans to subscribe to the service.

It's obvious they think they can make more money by having people pay for each game rather than giving access for a Netflix type sub. "There are no subscription costs." That's a really dumb statement because you're paying more than a sub for each individual game you want to play. And you have to pay for every single one. which costs way more than a $10-12/mo sub.

Without paying for their service you'll always have 1080p and if you ever upgrade your hardware you'll have to pay for better quality. Xbox and PS have an enormous library of games, and offer free ones every month so that can't be compared. And If you ever lose connection or Stadia's servers are offline you simply can't play at all.

Didn't say it's a huge "overall" advantage, i said it is a huge advantage.(playing without buying additional hardware)

I'm aware of the practical situations you're giving... but there are also other cases to note.

I often play with my friends, most of them have excellent internet connexion and i guess i can use my free account there too... i think it could be convenient if you move very often.

No. You can pay the price of Cyberpunk and MAYBE stream it in 720p with some serious lag.
You might be able to play it in 1080p and it might be very responsive. Or it might not be.

I think a large part of what you refer to as "snark" is simply people pointing out that when you buy a game for this platform you are buying a complete unknown in terms of performance.

If the player doesn't have the bandwidth then it's all over.

They are selling a service that MIGHT work.

My comparison is streaming services vs streaming services.

You prefer to buy a game for $60 to stream instead to sub for a year for the same $60 and stream what you want lol

Google made sure to make Stradia an unbelievable bad deal in the market.

It's a very strange line of argument.

You do have to pay for the games on Stadia, right?

So if you buy, say, 4 games in an entire year then that's 240 bucks spent.

Xbox game pass is 10 bucks per month for access to about 100 games?
I think that digital only XBox is about 200 bucks?
So for 80 bucks more you could get near enough 100 extra games.

So unless you are only playing Destiny 2 then it begins to look like you get less and less value for money as you start to buy more and more games.

If you buy the Stadia controller for 130 bucks then it's kind of even less value for money.

You should look into how they plan to integrate YouTube and Stadia. That will clear some of your doubts.

Not really. Their most touted feature, the ability to watch someone stream and then join their game at the click of a button, seems like an online troll's wet dream and every streamer's worst nightmare. The last thing streamers want is an easy way for viewers to invade their games, and many of them go so far as to hide their queue status to avoid trolls and stream snipers.

That's not really the thing here.

It's actually the fact that after watching a trailer or gameplay they liked, people can then click on a button at the end of that video and play the same game right on their browser.

People will try more games because of this, and they will end up playing more games because of this. If Stadia can pull this off in a satisfactory manner, that's where the billion players that EA exec was talking about will come from.

So OP shares his thoughts on a new technology and you guys just spend the whole time bitching about how the tech ain't perfect therefore it sucks and it's absolutely absurd that anyone would have some interest in this.

Lel, no wonder message boards are dying.

Glad you shared with us, OP. I don't have much interest in the service but it fascinates me. The sources I trust regard Stadia as quite playable, and I just think it's neat as hell that video games can be played with game logic running server-side god knows how many miles away.

This is a complete non-issue. They have same refund policy as Steam. So you have time to test out how the game behaves on your connection.

Before gamepass, was the whole gaming business model 'bad for the consumer'?

Since when is buying your games individually without the need for a console anti consumer?

When you buy a console or a game it's a one time purchase and you keep it forever, no matter what happens to the service. The same can't be said of Stadia. If the service goes away, so does the product you paid for. This is the anti-consumer part. You're only paying to access a product. You don't own it.

One positive I can think of is that with Google being so big they could keep their servers up indefinitely if things go bad so people would still have access to their games. But will they keep them up? Who knows.

Actually you are not buying a game instead you give money to Stradia buy the game and stream it to you.
You are paying full price just to use other people game via streaming.

In Gamepass case you are paying monthly to user any other people game.

With the money you use for Gamepass for the whole year to play a lot of games you can't even "buy" one game on Stradia.

Where did I say it was "anti consumer" ?

You get less value for money compared to XBox game pass as you buy more and more games.

I don't think that's untrue...
