I think all trans topics on ree should now have to include this icon in the title to warn everyone away from the bans that will be handed out in them.

Someone started a "Most attractive characters in video games" thread over there this morning. It lasted nine minutes before a clairvoyant mod showed up and closed it because "it will almost certainly result in a TOS violation and boys club behaviour."

th

No boys club allowed, also home for the LGBTQWTFBBQ?+ that doesn't allow any normies into their club....

I'm now convinced more than ever that this is a perfectly crafted Era troll account. You flew too close to the sun during TransEragate to get back some attention.

Now I'm not saying that when I posted this was the cause, but we know the Era mods read this topic all the time so it must just be (ANOTHER) coincidence that someone got banned just hours after I've specifically pointed something out.

Damn, you outed him! Be careful doing this with the other prominent posters, they are probably deep cover agents as well. Otherwise the witch hunt (oops, is that a bannable phrase over there?) might go straight to the top.

You know how every forum is similar......

The first few sections are topic focused..... gaming, sports, cars, whatever the key intent of the board is. And then there's the "Other" sections which is a mish mash of random topics. Gaming sections have priority pecking order. And other kinds of sections are down the page.

Anyone know when Reeeeeeeeee is going to rename their EtcetERA sections "Crybaby Politics" and rank it first, and then transfer all the gaming threads to the "EtcetERA" sections?

Anyone know when Cerium is going to write the sequel?

It's available now as an interactive browser based user driven RPG. It's a unique twist on the Dungeons and Dragons formula except there are now multiple Dungeon Master and the abilities scores have been made into opression points and character classes are based on race, gender, sexual identity, mental illnesses.

Odd kind of D&D game. In traditional gaming, different demographics, classes and races have different perks and weaknesses for variety.

Yet in his version some reason every player has Name Calling Resistance of -100%, and knows the powerful level 10 spell called Bigby's Clenched Asshole.

yeah, I think its one of those games where the only way to win is not to play. The meta there is genius.

But but but B-dubs said they can’t police the internet when Viceratops was doing things on Twitter that would’ve got him perma-banned in Era.

That trans meeting thread has 29 replies. Must have been a really important issue to most of the community.

It's effing incredible how transparent the extreme problem posters of Era can be. Complaint posts the size of my dog written with hatred so thick it practically sticks to the page. Actionable response occurs. One-sentence replies at best; most of them just outright do not respond.

It's all self-inflicted unfun and ungames until the moderation staff gives in and doubles down on the Orwellianism. Then it's just... "About fucking time, assholes. Now let me see, where shall I birth my next hatred?"

Could you provide any evidence toward the preferential treatment of Nintendo?
I've been there a couple of times and I can tell clearly which fanbase is more annoying and obvious in there🤷🏻‍♂️

It's funny, if their "glorious revolution" actually happened like some of them wished, they'd be among the first against the wall when the purge starts.

Minority groups can still be loud and / or annoying without being preferentially treated. One thing surely is that Nintendo fans - independent of Resetera - are more uniform in their tastes and on top of that, only few other (non indie) studios cater to the tastes of Nintendo fans (nowadays). With Sony fans you have at least four major groupings: the Fifa / Madden / CoD crowd, the cinematic games crowd, the Japanese RPG-style games crowd and the artsy games crowd (obviously with non-empty intersection). Consequently, Nintendo fans may appear more as a single entity to someone who is not all too much into Nintendo's content.

Still, due to the excessive trolling of Xbox / Microsoft players - both here and on Resetera - I personally found Sony fans the more annoying fanbase, but surely, all fanbases have their annoying aspects.

From the "Buy Era Clear!" thread:

Even their own userbase knows that their "Ad Removal" service isn't worth a shit and that just using adblock is the better free alternative! When I used to post there, the amount of hijacking adverts that'd pop up for me when browsing on mobile was atrocious! I've won a new iPad? Well, I seemed to be winning it almost every other time I visited the website, guess my luck is just that good. Perhaps more people would support your forum monetarily if your ad curation wasn't a complete shitshow?

Someone should start a similar thread here (if we don’t already have one). I bet the response to GAF gold would be a lot more positive because we are actually here to build a gaming community and not just tear each other down to satisfy a narcissism complex.

You must not have paid attention enough. Or you're biased yourself.

Cerium is a HUGE Nintendo fanboy, Resetera is a Nintendo-centric forum at first and the staff is heavily biased toward it in return, to not upset their userbase. You'd be surprise at the shit you can get away with, just by wearing a Nintendo avatar.

I despise all fanboys (I forgive Steam fanboys <3), but I'm sure there's a special place in hell for the people who've been defending Nintendo those past 4 years.

Are you still a homeless lawyer

A few months ago I loved that thread about living in a town populated only by resetera members. I imagined Hobbes as the wormtongue kind of guy, following those in position of power, trying to get at least a few crumbs, and red mercury as the creepy neighbor spying to people behind the bushes and reporting them to the thought police.

Are you really that desperate for attention on a Wednesday night that you have to double down on punching down on a gaffer that may not be in the best position in life?

It may not be how you intended it, but this concept doesn’t exist. It’s an artificial construct to hamstring humor, make only a few kinds acceptable, and slot it into ‘intersectionality’.

In normal people language, it’s control and more censorship. Just like you can’t talk about issues if you’re the wrong color, gender, or sexuality, you also can’t joke about things, or the wrong type of things.

As far as the poster, I’m sure anybody who thinks/jokes that Nintendo fans can burn in hell, can take a joke back.

Of course punching down exists. If a NeoGAF Gold member bashes a non-gold member, then this is punching down, because there is a clear and objective hierarchy. As evidence I provide to you that on the Discord channel, gold membership is ranked higher than membership.

Thank you. I don’t know that I always deserve them (split on how confrontational I can be, even if I feel it’s necessary), but I always appreciate some kind words.

Anyway, I don’t want to sound like I’m being arrogant about it, after a respectful disagreement with posters I like, but just showing appreciation.

The irony of saying something like this in a Reee thread is palpable, and I always feel stupid, even if I try to joke about it, but in the interest of getting to know me, not a lad. Not that it exceptionally matters on the internet, as evidenced by everyone thinking otherwise. : P

Can you refute anything I was talking about in regards to the nature of ‘punching down’?

Moreover, if I as a Gold member, make a joke about a non-gold member, they will be okay.

Jason Schreier is a total buffoon.

Do none of these idiots ever think to ask WHY some of these Youtubers and subreddits rack up so many views?
It's such a bizarre thing to whine about while simultaneously championing the idea that games should be open to criticism.

When an "anti-SJW" Youtuber critiques the videogame industry, and gets many views and likes, it's a bad thing.
When Kotaku critques the industry though? That's journalism and it's great and a very good thing that we all need.

The stupidest thing is that Kotaku could have EASILY jumped in front of the situation but having a more balanced and fair approach to their own coverage. Guys like YongYea, SkillUp, Upper Echelon Gamers etc could have easily been taken under the wing of Kotaku etc and since these lads are not exactly being "controversial" it would have left a lot of the more controversial ones out in the cold.

Instead Kotaku and others tanked their own credibility and left this massive audience out there who are just looking for someone who will give an honest and thoughtful take on gaming.

KotakuInAction is NOWHERE near as bad as these people like to pretend that it is.
Even a brief glance shows that it is pretty tame and actually just seems to be a place that features collected news articles from elsewhere on the internet with the members discussion below.

Destroy your own credibility.
Be utterly unapologetic about it.
Chase potential readers/customers away.
Then complain when those people go elsewhere for their videogame content.

It reflects the same Protected Class mindset that many other modern journalists/outlets seem to have.

"Be grateful that I am here to deliver THE NEWS to you, commoner. Once you were lost, now thou art found," Schreier says with a flourish of his wrist. They're so far up their own ass that the attitude is not an act. They are genuinely puzzled that others don't like them, so it must be those hate groups. It is why they still namedrop GamerGate.

It’s a cult, not intellectualism.

They don’t have the capability to self-reflect, or absorb meaningful criticism. They are always right, and anything that challenges that is wrong, and needs to be driven away, right up to destroying lives, genuine threats, and violence.

What we’re seeing is what would have happened if any number of cults had taken off and hit the big time. Something fundamentally incompatible with compromise, reality, and the tenets of a functioning society.

Haha. :)

Makes you wonder if some of the recognizable names that frequently make common sense defying posts, and get support from the community for doing so, are actually not all that they appear to be. :)

Really makes you wonder...

Lads, imagine playing these fucking clowns like a fiddle and sitting back and having a right good laugh to yourself as they gobble it up.
Then imagine how they are going to feel when the horrible horrible truth is revealed.

As I've said before there's a lot of gaming journalist that are so damn bitter that some kids with just a webcam, talent and hard work have come in and eaten their lunch for them. Where once print and online media controlled the message and gave them semi-fame and authority now they are just a footnote stuck in a corporate shithole circling the drain.

Discussion has circled around. So self-quote.

Yuuup.

Some of the more prominent Youtubers that people like JSchreier are most vocally against are really just guys who would be pretty decent forum posters who decided to just put their thoughts onto video on onto Youtubes platform.

Then it because apparent that people would rather put those independent videos on than bother going to read untrustworthy news sources.
The thing about many of those Youtubers is that the audience will hold them accountable to some extent.

For so many of these people it appears that "safe space" means "somewhere I can say whatever I want and nobody can question me" and of course this is undermined when you have these videos coming out all the time.

It's crazy to think that one of the MAIN dudes of GamerGate fame was MundaneMatt. A guy who basically made, and still makes, videos where he just reads off the days news and controversies. Almost no commentary. Definitely nothing even remotely controversial or shocking. The guy who fucking broke the story of ZQ and GG was just some boring guy reading off what happened basically.

Meanwhile supposed "journalists" were having a meltdown over bullshit that they themselves were making up.

They've got nobody to blame but themselves.
