Kad is a good contributor and I've seen regular forum members make far worse comments and/or shitposts than this (only need to take a peek at the politics section). In the context of the discussion in that thread, I'd like to know exactly what's wrong with his statement. Seems to me it was nothing but on point.
Between Kad's comment and the massive amount of edgy jokes, fecal humor and sexual innuendos that are circulating in the off-topic section, I'd say his ban was far from justified. Come to speak of it, quality of discussion has gone down considerably these past few months. People used to value well-reasoned comments, but nowadays you're just shot down with a dumb 4chan wojak meme when you try to put some effort into your arguments.

My gut feeling is the 'faggotry' which I suspect led to the ban may be a reference to the chap who got banned for consistently reporting extreme faggotry, I may be wrong.

The use of faggotry might be the reason. I like Kad and being a good contributor has nothing to do with it honestly. I consider myself a good contributor too but if I did something wrong and got banned, I won’t take advantage of me being a good contributor. I don’t find what he said deserves a ban thoughI think

I would imagine its the use of “faggotry” plus in that comment he’s not doing anything but vaguely bitching about other members’ behavior instead of contributing to the thread.
My impression from the moderation thusfar is that they’re more lax with word choice and tone in Politics because, by nature of being Politics, there’s going to be a lot of heated discussions and a lot of shitposts.
And even then I think expressing the sentiment of “all you people are dumb faggots” would probably be frowned upon.

blanket blames users without mentioning the offending ones with their posts. And like you @hariseldon said, ending it with "forum faggotry" didn't help given that one user was banned for reporting posts stating a similar reason.

Honestly, I don't want to get into the semantics of his post, but nowhere did he make that blanket generalization. He was referring to people criticizing a game without even playing it, which in this day and age of social media infused outrage is a perfectly valid point. That behavior to hastily jump to conclusions and start screeching whenever a political issue is touched upon that users disagree with, is what he described as "forum faggotry".
I'm sure that if he would have singled out a specific user, he'd have been criticized for doing that too. Which is especially hilarious, since a lot of regulars here pride themselves on ganging up on certain users for merely expressing views that aren't to the majority's liking.
Apparently ridiculing somebody for promoting unpopular political and social views is totally fine, but criticizing the general attitude in a specific thread to prematurely sh*t on a game because it doesn't adhere to people's political views, when most of them don't even have a desire to play it, is too much.

So, quality of discussion has declined, in your eyes, but the mods should have their hands tied when it comes to policing the boards?
You're upset because it's personal. That's fine. It's a very small slap on the wrist, though, for a type of comment we're not keen on here, particularly when directed at another user in a serious, negative tone.

Policing the boards does not necessarily result in higher quality of discussion when said policing is wrongly applied. I think the implosion of this forum in the past would have clearly demonstrated this. If quality of discussion is your concern, then why do some regulars often get a free pass for their sh*tposting and edgy humor while others are undeservedly punished for a comment that's far less inflammatory?
I cannot deny that I hold Kad in high regard, so you have to excuse me if I feel obliged to bring this up. That being said, I would not have complained if I would have found his comment to be particularly banworthy, at least compared to what other stuff I regularly read on here. Also I'd like to know at which specific user you think his comment was directed at.

Did I say it was profound and intelligent? No, but that's not a prerequisite to not being banned either, otherwise the ban page would probably be a lot longer. My point was that his comment was not worthy of copping a ban.
Also, I'm getting some conflicting interpretations about Kad's comment. Some tell me it's a blanket generalization against this forum, others say it's a direct attack on another user. So which one is it then? Maybe it would have been in order to ask Kad himself before he got banned without a warning.
It's a reasonable standard of conduct to enforce, which you'll see just about anywhere on the internet aside from the absolute dregs, and it was enforced with a light touch in consideration of Kad's regular positive contributions elsewhere on the boards.

I know that his punishment isn't harsh, but for me it's also a matter of principle.
In light of "Kad's regular positive contributions" I feel like some of the questions that I've raised should have been clarified before his ban. I certainly did not expect this decision to be reversed merely because I complained and I do understand that such a reversal would have lead to some other undesired consequences, like undermining a mod's decision for example.
I'm well aware that it is an unfortunate situation and I hold no ill intentions against you, on the contrary.
Since unfortunately none of my questions have been answered, I respectfully disagree and request to be banned for as long as Kad.
Don't get me wrong, I still like this forum and I think that you and your team are doing good work despite my criticism, but I also feel obliged to a longtime forum member that I have only the highest respect for and who certainly helped make this place what it is today.

I do agree with Strange and I guess with Kad to some extent. There are quite a lot of people that get away with multiple generalizations, drive-by comments and are clearly here just to hate on games and not actually have a discussion.
Maybe I'm not the one that should be criticizing such things but it has been something that has soured me too for the past few months.
As for "It's only a x day ban" . It's an argument that I've seen in the past (Squorin's ban is the one that comes to mind) and to me it genuinely reeks of the other side's "Is this really the hill you want to die on?"
