Twitch is great for brand awareness, etc. Especially with new IPs. We were SO stoked when LIRIK checked out our game on Twitch. Game wasn't prepared for it, and the servers broke due to the traffic, lmao. But, it did nothing for our product overall (F2P PVP online title). It gained traction for a few weeks, but then divided. It's pretty standard with smaller titles that are more of a niche.
So, yeah, no, just because a game isn't "TOP TIER" on Twitch doesn't mean it's a failure. Besides, there are some games that just aren't meant for streaming, and in my opinion Death Stranding is one of them. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the game a TON, but yeah, it wouldn't be fun to watch someone stream it, unless the person doing so has a wonderful personality. The game is all about experiencing it yourself, so there's a strange disconnect when you don't.
I said it before, and I'll say it again, if Kojima didn't do this game and it came out exactly like this I'd still love it. I was certainly curious about Kojima's first title outside of Konami, but my interest in the world of Death Stranding surpassed that curiosity big time.
People will continue to joke and call it a "walking simulator" (which is one of the dumbest descriptors ever), but it's far from that. Plus, it's clear those throwing that comment around hate for no reason, or just never cared. It's never changed.
I'm really hoping it does win. As a whole package it's insanely good, and that's what makes it work. I enjoyed the gameplay, I enjoyed the soundtrack, the sounds, the performances, the story, etc. I mean, I'm still listening to the soundtrack to this day, and will continue to.
That's the thing too, it's MY GOTY, I'm not speaking on behalf of everyone, haha. If you don't agree, that's totally fine! My runner up was Resident Evil 2, just because it was SO good.
I wish we could get proper Silent Hill 1/2/3 remakes of that quality...
Also, screw IGN. I feel like they haven't been relevant since the mid 2000's, lol.
