After DS reached the first place on IGN's user Game of the Year awards, IGN begged people to stop voting for DS, then removed the poll completely

Of course it is not the best game of the year or anything, but if they put up a poll including it as an option, they should have the maturity to accept that some of their voters are wrong an express this in the poll. Putting up a poll and then removing it just because you do not like the outcome is pretty stupid.

They removed the mod tag from the guy.

Compare with how it was before:

It it was a unknown name it should score better and have less hate.
Truth.

Good part of criticism come from being a Kojima's game.
Yeah everyone loves talking about mindless Kojima lovers, but honestly I have no idea what mythical people they are referring to, because literally every time DS is mentioned the most vocal people are ones shitting on the game, mostly specifically because its Kojima.

I have no idea on what part if the doll Kojima touched y'all but it's pretty fucking funny how butthurt people get over him.

You sure? I just clicked on the link (and i feel really dirty now, thanks IGN) and he still appeared to have the tag
That is how it shows now to me.

Edit - You are right you need to not be loged on IGN to see the tag (weird).

There are lots single player games above it that are way older. So that's no excuse.

The game has been a colossal let down. That's why it dropped off.

Every reviewer was bribed as we know because they got the game early and had to sign something with the company as that one company didn't wanted to do it they bailed on the review entirely.

Sorry but anybody that gets early access towards games for reviews are basically on a pay roll.

If the game was so good, it would have been far above games like daylight / dark souls / zelda as they are older. Yet no dice.

Spot 55 is pathetic. The game dropped faster than lightning.
twitch numbers only mean the streamers playing the game is popular, unless you think Fortnite is the game of human history.

Yes, who works for IGN. You're inevitably representing the company you work for at least to some extent - want to get all personal, use a private account.

(and yeah, this whole thing is ridiculous and IGN should get royally egged for it)
IGN forum mods are on IGN payroll?

The GOTY pool in IGN was community voting.
So gamers finds Death Stranding really good no matter what shit reviews says.

They are already doing that for weeks...

Community that gets formed by the content that they cover.
Now look at a more neutral platform that covers everything like twitch and u see the game has been a colossal failure.

Just look at there PC section. It's hilarious how utterly bad it is. They don't even cover PC gaming its pretty fucking obvious.

The biggest juggernaut launch of the year on PC was vanilla wow, the most successful expansion ever for MMO content has been shadowbringer ff14. ( they probably don't even know )
Absolute masterpiece of RTS that revived the genre with new elements etc that basically inspired tons of other games to change on that segment, They are billions ( they didn't even bother reviewing it like at all and have incorrect information about it ).
Anno 1800 absolute masterpiece of a simulator rts type of game.
I can go on for a while. While 2 of there games on the list are solid, they completely zoned out on the PC department entirely this entire year even while they had enough time to review stuff.

Imagine not having time to review they are billions but do have time to review PT haha.

Released in 2019 by the way not 2017 which was a beta.

Review?

Couldn't bother.

Kinda reminds me of when people would dismiss genuinely solid Halo / Forza scores claiming "no it's completely shit the reviewers were all paid off". I mean, one or two reviews, sure, but when you have 10 or more scores in the 9/10 range from reputable journos, it's at least worth giving it a second look.

How people behave with videogame reviews is a bit strange overall.

Can't think of too many products I've bought where I have really cared about reviews.
I'd only pay any notice to them if I was shopping around for something like headphones.

With gaming it seems a lot like people get pumped up for a game and then look to review scores as a kind of validation to be almost "proud" to buy the game. Similarly you have the opposite side where it's people who want to see a game fail will use the review scores as "proof" that the game is crap.

I generally believe that most games getting 75 or more on Metacritic will for sure, at the very least, be playable and competently made games.
Then it really just comes down to personal taste if the game is "OK" or "Awesome" or somewhere in between.

For sure if I am bored and looking for something new to play then I will look for games in that 80 to 100 band to just blindly pick up and play. Though I know a lot of people will not do that.

Similarly for any game I am interested in with a reasonable level of hype I will just straight up avoid reviews altogether as I don't want to consider their opinions at all until I have played the game for some time.

At this point with Death Stranding I think neutral gamers who are considering it would be better served by looking at the number of top reviews than to listen to some raving loons online who will not tolerate any kind of praise for this game.

I'd only make exceptions really for micro-transactions and "pay to win" mechanics that the game might hide from potential customers.

I reckon A LOT of people just fancy themselves as the new Yahtzee Croshaw but they don't really have the talent to pull it off and end up looking a bit daft.

Twitch :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The game if far from failure... actually the number of players is really big if you look inside the game.

Game is even below dark souls on twitch now. It's on spot 55 now. Basically complete and utter failure.

It dropped quicker then any other game on there.

Game of the year laughable at best.

Even age of empire 2 de edition is doing better and that's a remake of a remake.

The guy is right, only reason people give 2 shits about it is because its a heavily sponsored game and they all like to kiss his ass for whatever reason.

I'll give you this. "The game is rubbish because it has low viewership on Twitch" is definitely a new one.

I think I prefer "nobody would care about the game if it didn't have Kojima's name on it" though.

Zero interest in "playing" a walking simulator but trying to deny the game has an audience is shallow and stupid. Even if it's only a forum post ign should probably reprimand the mod for trying to influence results

Well... They had Pokemon up for GotY
I think we can bury any hope for critical thinking or analysis for this biggest video game outlet.

Oh jesus. Now I need to investigate this....

I should clarify that IGN does not pay mods there. I'm a "senior" mod there and we don't "work" for IGN. We volunteer our time to mod the place.

This will be a fun discussion...

Never heard of a forum mod being a paid position.

They're not. They mod the place because they love the place. Trust me on that.

...you are seriously arguing whether or not a game should be considered for GOTY through... twitch popularity?

Honestly though, a game like Fortnite is perfect for streaming.

Death Stranding definitely isn't a game that's ideal for streaming.
But that says nothing about the quality ogf DS.

Twitch is great for brand awareness, etc. Especially with new IPs. We were SO stoked when LIRIK checked out our game on Twitch. Game wasn't prepared for it, and the servers broke due to the traffic, lmao. But, it did nothing for our product overall (F2P PVP online title). It gained traction for a few weeks, but then divided. It's pretty standard with smaller titles that are more of a niche.

So, yeah, no, just because a game isn't "TOP TIER" on Twitch doesn't mean it's a failure. Besides, there are some games that just aren't meant for streaming, and in my opinion Death Stranding is one of them. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the game a TON, but yeah, it wouldn't be fun to watch someone stream it, unless the person doing so has a wonderful personality. The game is all about experiencing it yourself, so there's a strange disconnect when you don't.

I said it before, and I'll say it again, if Kojima didn't do this game and it came out exactly like this I'd still love it. I was certainly curious about Kojima's first title outside of Konami, but my interest in the world of Death Stranding surpassed that curiosity big time.

People will continue to joke and call it a "walking simulator" (which is one of the dumbest descriptors ever), but it's far from that. Plus, it's clear those throwing that comment around hate for no reason, or just never cared. It's never changed. 🤷‍♂️

I'm really hoping it does win. As a whole package it's insanely good, and that's what makes it work. I enjoyed the gameplay, I enjoyed the soundtrack, the sounds, the performances, the story, etc. I mean, I'm still listening to the soundtrack to this day, and will continue to.

That's the thing too, it's MY GOTY, I'm not speaking on behalf of everyone, haha. If you don't agree, that's totally fine! My runner up was Resident Evil 2, just because it was SO good.

I wish we could get proper Silent Hill 1/2/3 remakes of that quality... :messenger_pensive:

Also, screw IGN. I feel like they haven't been relevant since the mid 2000's, lol.

Why would you do that IGN? Just let it be GOTY, there ARE people who legit think it is. It's USER GOTY, if the users want to vote for anything it's their call even if you think they're trolling. Gaming journos just can't help themselves.
They legitimately believe they are superior to the plebeian gamers and it's their duty to correct our bad opinions. You know, for our own sake or something

lmao
''dreadfull'' writing
the story is really wel done, I bet he did not play it beyond the first end credits hahaha
Everything makes sense, sure some dialogues are not that great but overal the story is really well put together

And the monster energy placement? Kojima said multiple times he put it in because norman was drinking monster energy all the time during shooting and he wanted people to be norman when playing and ok sure the ride commercial for norman is a bit over the top but are u really gonna judge a game based on that? wtf

For real.. If you play the game, finished it and then listen to the ign review its just a really bad fucking review

But I said this in another post yesterday already. I wonder if ign is even allowed to be positive about it after their review says its a shit game not even worth a 7

But the worst thing about this is not just the mod. Its that they removed the poll completely after ign users put death stranding on top

As much as IGN is the worst, this seems beyond the pale, even for them.

Are we sure this isn't just a random forum mod, and the poll being taken down for unrelated reasons?

I guess I can see a reality in which IGN is so butthurt by IGNorant memes surrounding Death Stranding, that they would take down a poll contradicting them, but even for the immaturity and fragility of Clown World, that seems a bit much.

This is the main game I'm playing right now and haven't been addicted to one this bad in awhile. 🤷‍♂️

If Kojima's name wasn't on it, it'd have less buzz for sure, but I think this game is fantastic on its own and deserves the praise.

Exactly, it's a hostile relationship where one side strongly feels to be hierarchically superior to the other while also feeling the need to educate them on shit. Journos treat gamers like their wife's sons.

I admit my ignorance thinking IGN is a serious publication - of the online-publication-mods (those of newspapers, granted) I know, they are getting paid at least something (while they may not be employees as such). But even if we're talking about 100% volunteers, a teeny-weeny bit of advice:

Or to abbreviate the same message:

What a shit argument, that nobody would care if Kojimas name wasn't attached to it is ridiculous. If an unknown developer had made this game the exact same way, I think it could be argued that it would probably do better review wise since a lot of people seem to just not like Kojima.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
I like DS, but it ain't GOTY to me. But carry on..
