Did anyone else get game codes from the Twitter thing? I have codes for GRIS and my friend Pedro but I really wanted slay the spire or outer wilds I'm willing to trade!

Good show this year, although some bigger announcements were front loaded... I guess it was to keep people watching incase any other big announcements would come.

So I guess now is the time to come in and question why people put some much expectation and hope onto these shows.

The nominees are listed well in advance and usually are a bit predictable.
Then you've basically got a 1 in 5 chance of just guessing the winner anyway.
Not that anyone should care since these are basically industry events.
Best case scenario here is that you see that a game you haven't played won an award and you try a new game as a result.

So yer tuning into a 4 hour event to basically get a list of 10 to 15 video games that will be coming out some day. Probably in 6 to 10 months from now.
But there have been so many rumors going around about games that may or may not exist so you end up hoping that some of those 10 to 15 will be a big reveal. Except a next gen Batman or Elder Scrolls or whatever isn't really that much of a surprise. Even if those are "revealed" you will get a 30 second clip and that's it.

It's even more crazy when you think that you could just hold off for a few hours and watch all of the individual game trailers and read a list of all the award winners.

Did they even show any of Cyberpunk 2077 or was that whole bit just "Cyberpunk 2077 will have music in it"?

Sekiro is a good game of the year.

Had it running on the side while playing something.
Overall it was ok but seems to have learned and improved nothing compared to last year. Still too long, still too many awards that they clearly don't care about and are straight up shown as less important (all the ones given out in a bulk or during the pre show) and still too many non gaming shit.

It's funny to have one of the presenters talk about how gaming is bigger than movies and music and yet only a games award show needs to fill up with movie and music stars. You don't have Hideo Kojima handing out the Oscar for best movie or Regie handing out the grammys. But the Game of the year award is presented by Vin Diesel.

Garbage show mostly, way overlong and paced abysmally.

There was some good stuff in there, but it was padded out with huge amounts of filler and the general trend as the show wore on was one of anticlimax.

As per usual the actual awards seemed like an afterthought within the presentation, which is not really conducive to them having any sort of gravitas or importance regardless of how much Keighley and co try and "class up" the show.

I think the real reason people watched the show would elude you. Some folks just like a good excuse to drink together even if across the internet. The rest of us just had it on in the background while playing and reading this thread, which this thread was worth the price of admission alone.

That is definitely a good reason. I have no argument with that.

Just seems that in the aftermath of these things (E3, Game Awards, State of Play, Nintendo Direct) that there is a never ending stream of moany bastards talking about how disappointing it all is.

Would the people in attendance pay that price tag for a 2 hour show?

Would the people watching the stream feel left out if the stream didn't cover the show in its entirety?

TGA needs to provide all the content it can, but it can't risk covering up the very thing it's trying to give more exposure to [which is game awards].

You're probably right. The western employment structure virtually guarantees that those making the project decisions know mostly about delivering product and making money while the ones who actualy work on the games know more about video games but are in a position to only do what they're told.

In the west, the smart dev who likes to game wants almost nothing to do with making video games.
