You know some crafty motherfucker got paid a shitload to come up with the “idea” to just call it Xbox
Then they simply ask for the new Xbox like anyone with any sense would.Actually you ask for PS5, Play 5, etc...
But yes you are correct if you ask PlayStation some retailers will show you PS4 first while they had PS4 in stock.
Of course that changes if you add something else like "new", "5", etc.
When you google xbox series x google suggests the xbox one x in the shopping results. It's not distinctive enough coming from the similarly named current gen console. People will make mistakes, no doubt about it.
What's actually crazy is the fact that coming in hot after the 360 generation Microsoft managed to squander pretty much everything despite having hundreds of "experts" working across multiple highly specialised departments.
People are fallible, companies are made up of people. It's hilarious when you see people deflecting criticism by saying "they know best, they are the experts!".
Exactly. I remember looking at buying a new one and I had to google the name of the latest model, it’s absurd how they name their iPads.Just like the ipad naming from Ipad to ipad air to New Ipad to Ipad Pro??? If you never had an ipad which one is the current iPad?

People say this is confusing, but people said the same thing about the One S and One X too and I've yet to see any confusion.
But hardware is dying anyway, I expect next gen to sell half this gen or less.
God, they are really thick.
This is only gonna cause a lot of confusion. Maybe not to some on here but for the average/casual person who buys one. I'm thinking this is gonna backfire on them.

The console was announced... what? Last week? Give it time for it to saturate. Pretty sure there won’t be any confusion on google when launch date comes.
Concern trolling at its finest.
Let's flip this on its head. If Sony and Nintendo announced the following two next gen consoles tomorrow:
- PlayStation Series Pro
- Nintendo Series Switch
What do you think people would say? Would it still be "concern trolling"?
As excited as you might be for the new console, there are legitimate reasons to question their naming strategy here.
I would say you had a point if it was called Xbox One Series X, but it’s not. They left the One out of it.
So that makes it ok?
And the 4 was left out of the PlayStation name for what it's worth.
It is called PlayStation 4 Pro.Was the 4 left out of the Pro? No, and there was no confusion. The literal same argument was made when they launched the S and then the X version of the Xbox One. How can you confuse Xbox one X with Xbox series X?
Keeping up the tradition of an incomprehensible naming scheme
Did they ever explain why the 360 was called the 360 ?
Yep. The phone market is crowded and it was vital that a new phone be known as the direct successor of a previous one. What confusion in Phone market?
S7, S8, S9, S10, S10...
7, 8, X (10), XS (10 S), 11, 11S...
A30, A50, A70, A80...
6, 6T, 7, 7T, 8, 8T...
P20, P30, P40...
1, 2, 3, 4, 5...
You got it the wrong way around.somebody tell Tesla that they shouldnt be selling so many cars because their customers cants tell the difference between a Model 3, Models S, and a Model X
Hardware (I am assuming you mean dedicated consoles, unsure though) is dying? Someone forgot to tell Sony and Nintendo, probably 15-20m units this year each.
This is GAF and most people know a lot about video games (and consoles). A buddy of mine works at Media Markt (electronics store chain) and according to him a lot of customers don't know which Xbox model they should buy. It's ultimately down to the salesman to enlighten them (or lie in order to pick something that's not selling ).People say this is confusing, but people said the same thing about the One S and One X too and I've yet to see any confusion.

alot of kids are going to get an xbox one x instead of a xbox series X. Parents will ask the difference l, and they’ll simply say better graphics. But they both have Halo 5.It's not really the confusing name, it's just stupid people.
Its clear its the most expensive one. People will see this as iphone 11 pro and iphone 11 pro max. if anything I see Xbox 1X selling more than usual next year. Not really. It's very clear that it's the new Xbox.
imagine after Model X they release Model Series X. But it would be stupid, but it wouldnt matter cause people dont buy cars the same way they do consoles.somebody tell Tesla that they shouldnt be selling so many cars because their customers cants tell the difference between a Model 3, Models S, and a Model X

This is the stupidest name ive seen but it shouldnt matter much. Ultimately the game’s exclusive to the system matter most
Look at Nintendo’s naming schemes like DS, DS XL. It worked for them.If I see
Xbox Series X
Xbox Series S
Xbox Series C
And not
Xbox One X
Xbox One S
It’s very clear it’sa new generation. Not to mention there will be a huge marketing push advertising such things

It happened with the WiiU.But "your average consumer" is super dumb right ? I mean in holiday 2020 he can't figure out at all that the brand new Series X is different to the One X that is cheaper + 3 or 4 years old + different shape + less powerful. Even with all the marketing, general knowledge, the fact that he's not an ape etc.
So once again since according to this thread he's so dumb then I would expect him to be confused between Xbox One and the original 2001 Xbox.
Then that's the child's fault for not saying it's the newest one. If a kid really wants a Series X as their new console, and they give their parents the "better graphics" line, then it still proves my point about stupidity. That has nothing to do with confusing names. That just means the parents are given no information, and then proceed to go with the cheaper option because they don't want to spend an extra $200 or whatever.alot of kids are going to get an xbox one x instead of a xbox series X. Parents will ask the difference l, and they’ll simply say better graphics. But they both have Halo 5.
The Wii U did not look vastly different than the WIi other than the controller. Nobody wanted another Wii when the superior Xbox One and Playstation 4 were coming. It happened with the WiiU.
Look at Nintendo’s naming schemes like DS, DS XL. It worked for them.
