To be fair, last time he tweeted about going to Japan, and showed photos of SEGA, Phantasy Star Online on Xbox was announced.
So, something does come out of it.

Makes sense if Microsoft is using an off the shelf piece (albeit a very good one) while Sony is using a custom solution (probably in partnership with AMD).

There was a spec leak that showed the PS5 using a certain model SSD from them. That's why it was addressed by them. There was also the rumour that MS were using the new SSD from them, and the fact they went out of their way to deny the Sony one, but not the MS one is interesting.

I though MS using their SSD controller were already confirmed.

Sony is probably using a custom SSD controller.
What we need know here is if that custom SSD controller will be inside the APU or outside on the PCB.

I’ve always held the position that when it comes to Japan Xbox is just meddling. They have no market share there, the Japanese dont want them, and the game Sell a fraction of what they do compared to PS4 here in the west. At this point the only thing fueling Xbox in Japan is spite against PlayStation.

I See these ridiculous studio acquisition wish list from Xbox people like from software or whoever with no regard whatsoever if it’s even good for the studio, which it would be a catastrophe for. There’s no desire to even play the game or want the game it’s just to spite and undermine PlayStation. Spite and undermine gamers in general at that.

Just to add a bit more MS is using the SSD controller from Phison not the SSD itself.
The controller MS will probably use is that chip on PCB:

Sony is using it own custom chip so they will put it inside the APU ou ask some fab like TSMC to produce it to put on PCB.

Phison doesn't make SSD's though, they make controllers. Microsoft went for the mainstream route by signing a deal with Phison. Sony said fuck it and went custom. Curious to see which one of the two solutions ends up being faster, my bet is on Sony for this one.

12,4 It is the figure that Osiris gave. The 2 TB fit with other leaks.

It's fake. He used a pic from the ubi maintenance dude's post and just cropped it and rotated it.
There's no reason to give credibility to leaks just because they have something in common with another unconfirmed leak.

MS leakers said xsx is using a ~2gb/s drive. You don't need a pcie4.0 controller/drive for that. PCIE3 would save you money and save you a nice chunk of power draw as well.

Unless they put a super fast controller in it now to establish pricing but a slower SSD to save money, then a revised smaller slim model later with a faster SSD when they're cheaper and already have the faster controller they wouldn't have to change? Prob not though haha

Japan is no longer the force it used to be with console sales. Of the 106 million PS4s sold to date, only 9.5 million are in Japan.
The West (US, Canada, Europe and even Australia per capita) is where it's at.

Yeah that's the weird part. Phison has PCIe 3.0 controllers though (see image below). If the XSX SSD theoretically peaked at ≈2GB/s (what's being rumored), the most logical assumption would be that they might be using a Gen3 controller. Gen4 controllers must be expensive as hell so sticking with the Gen3 ones would also help getting the BOM of the console in check I guess.
