wait a second. why is the xbox APU bigger AND clocked higher?
why would sony settle for a smaller APU than the PS4 apu?
Ive found it bizarre that so many people are putting their faith in the random chinese forum leak. A leak that we only know about because komachi gave his blessing. and we know Komachi was the first guy to get the github leaks so when he saw that oberon 300mm2 number, he latched on to it and spread it. We know its not accurate now that the xbox silicon is over 400mm2 and the chinese leaker had arden at 350mm2.
so while i understand predicting a 400mm2 APU for the xbox, i fail to see why the PS5 has to be smaller. Like, why is that only MS can afford a bigger APU? why is it that only MS can afford a better cooling solution? why are we ignoring every other non github rumor out there that says the PS5 is more powerful than the xbox?
i will say it again, i think both consoles are using the same exact gpu with maybe a CU or two difference. if the xbox is 400mm2 then my predictions of consoles going wide and slow was true. its what they always do. 64 CU at 1.475 ghz might be the best you could do in a console form factor. thats 31% faster than the x1x clocks at 16nm which is roughly what amd promised for 7nm,
Sure, the sweet spot might be higher for desktop parts, but we have always seen consoles go with conservative clocks and for mid gen refreshes bigger GPUs than AMD's 480 and 580 cards. i wouldnt be surprised if sony comes around 400mm2 or even bigger seeing as how they are supposedly more powerful.
