Been a lurker here over the years and decided to finally make an account.

I really hope both consoles are as close as can be, I love certain exclusives like anyone else but admittedly my go to games are usually multiplats so to have the best game possible it would be beneficial if the lowest common
Denominator the game was been built for wasn’t to bottle necked.
I’m on PS, had them all and bought the PS4 and pro at launch, I did however purchase an XB1X purely for PUBG, sold the console as soon as the game came to PS however I must say the XB1X was a much better product than my pro, so I’m hoping the ps5 has that premium look and sound that the X did, I actually like the tower designed ps5 which was floating about not long ago, however it will end up looking cheap and boring like the fake leak the other week which was mentioned to be the Chinese console, the last ps console I actually liked the look of was the launch 60gb ps3.

Im not tech savvy to the extent I feel is needed to comprehend what 90% of the discussions in this thread are even on about, may aswel be speaking another language!

I do hope though the ps5 has a bigger SSD than my 1tb in my pro, yes I gather this probably won’t be the case but I’m fed up off constantly having to delete games for patches, COD MW for starters is 150GB!, I’m abit of a spontaneous gamer, so it’s no good to me to have to re-install a 100gb game because I’d of either ran out of spare time by the time it downloaded or lost interest

I did have a PSVR for a short while, I’m very interested to know what ps5 can do for PSVR 2, will PS4 visuals be obtainable? I remember trying GT sport, and other than the complete lack of track/car and game mode options the visuals were that of ps3

Yep! It's so close. Reveal imminent.

Btw. few days ago i saw a gif with Jim Ryan, Ghostbusters and Cerny in one room. Does anybody has a link maybe. :D

That's not how it works.

Yeah, erm, look... That was bollocks, and you know what? What Sony did with the PS3 was bollocks, too. Remember that 2tf or whatever it was? Remember the fp16 shit?

This SSD talk will all be bollocks as well, and will never really be seen, as I’ve talked about previously.

And don’t get me wrong, Xbox will be saying other stuff soon that will be, you guessed it, bollocks.

This is just what companies do. They hype it up so that certain audiences are drooling. The idea is to sell sand to the Arabs, and if you can do that, you’re a rich man.

It’s standard practice to essentially talk about what COULD happen, rather than what WILL happen 99% of the time. It’s all about the gorilla beating his chest, if you don’t do it, it’s bad optics.

For example, I COULD have a raging hard on that takes a nuns eye out, I mean, it’s possible. It doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

I don’t like nuns.

"Trademark applications need to have a publicly marketed product tied to them within 4 weeks of filing, otherwise the trademark expires and has to be re-applied for (second application for the same product costs a fee, so companies try to avoid that) "

Is it true? Can't seem to verify that

In fact i don't believe he knows something about the reveal date.
Maybe he knows, but he doesn't want to tell anybody. For example he said many times, that he know what game are Rocksteady working on, but he want to let them reveal it as they want...

So i can be an insider too? I know something but i can't tell you.

Then why the tease if he’s not going to tell us?
It's nice to have that bit of attention. pretending you know something most don't.

I mean, you can be. But being insider is not only about what you say but also about your reputation when you leak something. If Schreier leak something, you can be pretty sure, he has his sources. But if you choose to "leak" something you will be laughed at probably :D

As outsiders looking in we can only speculate about what is going on behind the scenes but I think it’s a combination of the two scenarios you’ve painted here. Lets keep in mind back in 2015-16 Microsoft almost canceled Xbox altogether. Zhuge x had a tweet about it. So Sony being the market leader and all just decided to coast on third parties to carry the day. Fortunately for them they also happened to have an already big first party. And because of Microsoft seeming headed for the exits didn’t feel the need to expand their first party much. On the contrary they closed 2-3 studios.

Then e3 2018, Xbox is back. Now, we don’t have any idea how well funded Xbox is now, I think people exaggerate, but they are at least back to competitive 360 days in my estimation. Some of the smarter heads at Sony realized this and decided change was necessary. John kodera was pushed aside for jim Ryan who seems like an assertive guy. Layden was pushed out for whatever reason. Perhaps he was viewed as too complacent or Sony really wanted to put first pet titles on pc and he was against that. Who knows but there was behind the scenes drama.

All the meanwhile next generation is looming. Fortunately they Cerny again. It does sound like 2019 was the real date for the Ps5 but due to technology not being ready/affordable enough and rumors of Microsoft making a comeback and wanting a really powerful console plans were put on hold. With all that said no insider has claimed Sony is behind or playing catch up. But it does seem like to me like 2015 to 2017 Sony perhaps underestimated Microsoft attempting a come back and Nintendo’s recent success.

Edit: One thing that lends credence to the whole changing the Ps5 in 2019 rumor is late 2018 and early 2019 we would get a new article a day about how Microsoft is set to dominate next gen. Then the wired article came out in April where Sony confirmed the cpu and ssd but played coy with the gpu, which almost a year later they still are. I think one of the reasons Xbox pr was so confident based off of these puff piece articles is that they thought Sony was planning on launching a half step ps4.5 in 2019. I do genuinely believe the Ryzen cpu and ssd announcement came As a surprise to them. It was e3 2019 where we heard lockheart was cancelled which says to me the “sandwich” strategy was no longer variable. For whatever reason lockheart may well be back in the cards about I do believe Sony made big changes to the Ps5 early 2019.
I have another theory that already talked about in here, and it even makes more sense, at the light of this rumored change of plans around 2017.
I think ps4 and ps4 Pro was the testing for a generation model in which you launch a more conservative/cost saving console in the beginning, and then a more powerful and updated mid-gen refresh (again developed and priced to not lose money and be affordable) to face the new tech and development needs of the rest of the generation.
So, in my opinion, between 2016 (pro launch) and 2017, Sony concluded by the sales of the Pro, that all the investment and other costs taken with a redesign at mid-generation, simply didn't compensate, and that is more profitable to launch a more powerful PS5 prepared for the 6/7 years long generation, even if it has to take some loss at the beginning to price it more affordably _ and now with the positive numbers on the table of the hardware record sales, AND THE PAYING SUBSCRIPTION MODEL, the complete opposite of the transition from ps3 to ps4!
Well just a theory.

i think they absolutely plan on going hardware-less....as they should. Streaming is 100% the future and they already have the infrastructure. Its a massive competitive advantage they have and should absolutely pursue it.

Dont be shocked if streaming takes over hardware the gen after this upcoming one. If Sony is smart then they will be looking to go hardware-less in the near future
Well looking at the date of launch of Sonys streaming service, the Playstation Now, i think Sony started to get smart well before 2013 _ that would be the Ps3/360 generation _ so pretty advanced in time smart.
And about the massive advantage in infrastructure for streaming games of Ms, i don't think that's how it works. Azure infrastructure and Xcloud streaming infrastructure are not the same thing, look at how many countries Xcloud beta is available, and then Stadia, and finally compare to PSNow.

Damn! Am I the only one here in their 40's? I NEVER thought I'd be 'that old dude' playing games. Then again, I kind of got into them late...PS2 but got hooked. I'm going to get a PS5 regardless of all the drama around "power" because of exclusives. BUT, if there IS a big and noticeable power difference I MIGHT get both. I'm kind of doubting that will happen though. Time will tell!
Missed last 30 pages. So, any worthy news?
Yes, im 45 next month.

I think it's much ado about nothing, as far as worry is concerned. I'm sure they'll fire off something by Friday, be it invites or otherwise.

They *could* do it in a State of Play, but that seems rather tame. Then again, they've been nothing but tame while Microsoft has fired their shots.

I don't think it's a cause for worry about it's relative power.

Has anyone ever considered, as tight as the ship has been, only select people received or will receive invites and they are also highly watched by the ninjas?
