PSVR is dead

So is Markiplier, but two of the biggest youtube gamers with tens of millions of viewers isn't much I suppose

Wow PSVR is suddenly dead just because OP's favorite platform doesn't have it and look at the the usual suspects agreeing with him. One even saying Astrobot is enjoyable without VR which is pretty obvious he did not play it and probably doesn't own PSVR in the first place. Collecting dust (the most overused fanboy word in gaming)

The amount of non-arguments taking place, personal insults, insecure fanboy oriented dismissals, attempted shifts to sales figures, goading as if there's some kind of envy (I own the damn thing lol) and somehow dragging Xbox into the discussion is pretty incredible.

I've never seen this amount of insane defense for something which is on a pretty severe downturn, getting substantially less software than normal, getting much worse software and only about 4.7% of the install base actually purchased it.

Where do you people come from?

Lots of negativity in here, lmao, why? People angry and defensive, lol.

It's not the topic itself of even some fanboyism for Sony.
It's more that it's a DynamiteCop thread.
The guy is pretty good at expressing his feelings and making decent points.
But he's got a way about him that just turns people the wrong way and then goes full sanctimonious asshole when people either don't agree with him or call him out on being overly aggressive.
Doesn't make for pleasant discussion.

Why are you turning this on me? This thread went from 0 to psycho with very little involvement from me.

Do you see me insulting and personally attacking people? Editing pictures of other members and posting them? Making posts without substantive qualities to play devil's advocate or drive by shit posting?

No, no you do not. People need to get their emotions under control, use their higher brain function and actually attempt to make posts which address the issue. That's very infrequently happening, out of nearly 200 posts maybe about 20 of them are actually an honest attempt at discussion.

You seem like a nice and level headed guy, so please....

Okay DynamiteCop! DynamiteCop! Here are your own words in the OP sans picture...

Let's be real here...
(Shows cherry picked photo)
Been like this for what seems like months. Phil was right to not chase this dead end, and Sony is yet again letting one of their peripherals just die without so much as a whimper or trying to do anything with it.

martin.png

So a few things...

#1 This doesn't read like a disgruntled owner, but no offense a shitpost, what happy owner of PSVR would call it a dead end? Doesn't sound like somebody who enjoys it to me...

#2 Again, the title of the OP was "PSVR is dead" not, "where are the games on PSVR?", not "Is PSVR dying?" but a flat out statement followed by derision and capped with a snarky pic...

#3 By mentioning Phil you're the one who brought MS into this amigo despite your post above, it's part of your 1st post...

#4 Sony is Supporting this so called "dead end" both Paper beast and the iron man game you link to in the OP are published by freaking Sony...1st party support is support lol

Lastly, #5
I and others have given you multiple reasons for the slower release of games, but you just ignore them and then move the goal posts for your argument...

Any other true VR owners feel like if your not holding the weapon in your hand and have to rely on canned animations in your average non VR game, a huge step back?

I mean, speaking of PSVR, yes, of course. Only a few of the games are made to work with PS Move, the rest all require the standard controller. And let me tell you, when you're trying to do a thing that requires you to throw something in VR a really long way with precision, you become very damn aware you're holding a controller.

Ah, I'm on the Valve Index, but I do have both. Many issues with the PSVR are solved on Index or not as much an issue.

really posted one game as if thats all that been out in a while, out this week, out next month. Then acts surprised why poeple are laughing.
anyways im not buying PSVR till PS5. my girlfriend really wants one,

But you mentioned Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, in your very first post, yet you blame others for dragging Xbox into the discussion.

Man, such a transparency.

Here's the thing.
I stand by my statement of you making good points but being overly aggressive about it.
This happens in literally every thread you make and in response to half the walls of text you post.
The fact that it went from zero to sixty in three post, others started right out with ignoring you and at least one guy had an 'edited photo' at the ready sort of suggests that you've made a reputation for yourself here.
At some point, you have to look in a mirror and say:

I love my PSVR personally. There is literally a constant stream of new games (not only DLC) being released for it. I can't even keep up with all of them. Really confused by the point of this thread. Sorry, OP but your dead wrong.

I still play it even though I have an Oculus Rift S and I don't see myself getting rid of it for awhile. Too many games from Sony studios to give up on. Iron Man VR gameplay previews look great too.

Space Channel 5 coming soon too, not sure if anyone mentioned it. We're nearing the end of the gen so I'm not sure what the big surprise is?

Exactly.

DynamiteCop! DynamiteCop! is PlayStation VR as a whole dead or just the current set?

Because if all PlayStation VR is dead, someone needs to tell Sony fast. They're making a 2.0 headset going into next generation. You would have thought someone would have let them know it was dead already.

Beat Saber has become my daily cardio session. I love it.

Beat Saber is the JAM! ANd the PSVR version is the best version (despite the wires). In fact that is the games I always show off to my non VR friends. Every single person I have done this with has gone on to purchase a PSVR or Oculus Quest.

PSVR is the best version of beat saber?

Lol what? 🤨

For my part, I've got a small collection of VR games I've been meaning to start/finish, but it's a matter of not having my dumb cats around to mess with the wires. And it takes a small amount of set up, so it's not perfect for pick up and play sessions. I'd be interested in seeing what the next version is like.

I've read comparisons saying there is noticeably less lag with the PSVR version, but that the other detractions of playing the game on console outweigh that small benefit.

the tracking on psvr is worse and there is no MOD support.
honestly the only reason i keep playing the game on pc is mod support.
there are a lot of great vr games on the ps4 but beat saber? eh

Its my preferred version. I can get much higher scores (and less Bullshits misses) than I can when I play on my Oculus Quest or Rift. Plus the move controllers feel better for that type of 'movement". My only complaints about the PSVR version is the screen res and the wires.

I can't speak for any other version, as PSVR is the only VR set I have. What is wrong with the version? Having wires is annoying, but other than that, I haven't had any issues with the game.

well that's the problem MOD support is amazing for a music game.
basically playing whatever track you want to and beatmap sharing etc

That makes sense. I would like more songs. Do modders usually do a good job with setting up the levels with the music?

yup and the devs actively tried to break this for a long time. because they wanted to sell their own stuff ofc.
the beatmaps are just as good or better

People were making threads weeks ago that pcvr was dying too despite it having it's best year and even more headsets announced.

Index, Quest, and Rift were sold out over a month+ and the only excuse I saw was all the headset manufacturers got together and decided it would look good to show them out of stock at the same time lol. Ridiculous. It was so bad that the Odyssey+ was a best seller for weeks. Not that it's a bad kit but you see my point.

Not to mention more AAA games are going to VR than ever, by a wide margin. It's not going anywhere. Sorry. PSVR, RIFT, none of the big players.

I love this thread. Every now and then you get these troll threads, and certain members are really good at making the trolls go nuclear. Shout out to Vawn Vawn .

PSVR is still the most comfortable headset out there, and is the most future proof, with tons of support. The Pimax is impressive but PiTools needs a lot of work and the comfort it terrible (let’s see how great the new Pimax is). The Index is the most well-rounded, but still lacking in FOV, comfort and controllers. Oculus Quest is a great companion product just because Vader Immortal 1-3 are great, but it’s the most uncomfortable and the FOV is so restrictive, the refresh rate is also killer. Still, a Quest 2 would be intriguing.

Shout out also to the mods for acting like the camera men on nature shows when a predator hunts down prey.

The very fact that you're trying to associate this thread as some kind of troll immediately makes me not take you seriously because frankly it's beyond lazy. Vawn hasn't accomplished anything, he does the same rinse and repeat schtick where he sparsely engages and leverages something as fanboyism to usurp giving actual criticism.

It's the most future proof headset? It's got tons of support? Who are you kidding here? It's the lowest quality headset of the pack in terms of build quality with the lowest resolution and in terms of coupled headsets it has the lowest FoV. It's got the worst tracking model, the least amount of accessible games and it's tethered to an incredibly underpowered hardware platform.

PSVR has got like ~315 games, PCVR is around 4,500 in nearly the same span of time.

  • PSVR: 0.25 releases per day
  • PCVR: 3.12 releases per day

It's night and day, and the worst part is quality and release frequency is increasing substantially on PC while for PSVR quality is dipping dramatically and release frequency has fallen off considerably from its already weak release roadmap. There's no troll here my guy, just a host of people such as yourself that seem to live in an alternate reality.

Id disagree, rift s more comfy, far less external light bleeding, the psvr to make comfy the panel sits off your face leaving a big light gap.

Huge sweet spot of focus on rift s, for the price it's the best vr deal (apart from needing a decent pc)

Psvr has horrific controls, major drift issues, the screen is trash. And it's extremely limited.

Saying that for the price it's a good first step into vr, and will be BC with ps5.

Currently the rift s for value/performance it's the best vr headset atm

Is it really dead? i think it depends on your expectations.

I think at the beginning of the VR life everyone thought this was going to be the main platform of the future, eventually all games would have been made for VR. That's not going to happen anymore.

Turns out there are so many barriers to overcome that people don't want to do that right now, so either you accept VR as a peripheral with some cool games coming every 4-5 months but really not much in between or you give up on it.

It works for Sony cause as proven in the past they cannot keep alive two platforms at the same pace, one has necessarily to be the main system, while the other clearly a secondary device you may use once a week, and that's exactly what PSVR is.

...lacks reading comprehension.
Difficult to commit to making big software for it when you can only address 5% of the marketplace.
And those 5 % are only the sold units. Of which a lot are collecting dust, no doubt. Vr will stay a niche as long as it requires bulky headsets (so probably always, because you want to eliminate all external light) that make you sweat.

They're already getting a lot smaller:

And this one is an actual buyable product:

It's only a matter of time when glasses of these sizes become as good as the high end headsets.

Eventually it will be a micro projection straight onto the eye. No screen involved.

VR and AR will be part of daily life just like smartphones.
