As someone who is neither a liberal or conservative, it just boggles the mind why so many in tech and gaming hate conservatives so much. Judging someone as an individual and not generalizing entire groups of people used to be a very liberal way of thinking. If there is a conservative who is an asshole, then hate them because they’re an asshole.
It’s just so out of touch and really makes them come off as ignorant.
Every conservative belief is considered horrible and asshole-ish these days by people in the gaming industry. Even very lukewarm ones like not wanting all guns banned and being pro life. Even if you disagree with their point of view, I don’t consider those beliefs offensive at all and logically you should be able to agree that you can make a good case either way.
I’m not in the industry, I don’t know how hardcore the hatred runs. But if one doesn’t think if Person X goes into an interview with a gaming site or publication and somehow it comes up that they’re a conservative or voted for Trump or are against abortion or something... if you don’t think they will get pushed to the back of the line for that job, you’re just naive.
In the same token though, I think if you’re a really well respected media personality who has built up years of a good reputation, just coming out and saying you’re a conservative may not be enough in itself to destroy your career, but I guarantee you people in the industry will start looking at them differently and waiting for them to say something they don’t like because they’re now going to be viewed through a different lens. I think liberals just get more leeway. Two people might make the same joke, but if one is known as a conservative, they may jump down his throat because there’s this belief that conservatives are innately racist or bigoted. Meanwhile, the liberal guy who made the same joke won’t even be noticed.
