Microsoft confirms 12 TF RDNA 2 for the Xbox Series X

The features tackling latency seems right up my alley, and I also like how they will allow you to quick-resume multiple games. Pretty neat.
Sony has had the quick-resume feature in this current generation. It should have been in the X, that's one of my main gripes switching between my Pro and X. Good to see it's finally being implemented.

Exclusives won't, and in the past those were the most impressive games from MS. XSX games will have to be made with the Xbox One in mind, hindering them greatly. Nearly a 10x GPU deficient machine.

Yes, for a year only. Hellblade 2 for example is a game developed only for XSX.
+ The XSX is still capable of raytracing, so I expect to see raytracing features in Halo Infinite that aren't possible on the X1X, let alone base Xbox. A PC game on Ultra settings looks better than a game on low settings :)

Argument for XSX is undeniable at this point for me.

Paying $1000 for a PC and $500 for a PS5 to get the same access to games I could get for $1000 for a PS5 and XSX makes no sense.

Buying a PS5 first for Godfall and Resogun 2 also makes no sense to me personally. Sony is emptying its ammo now and aside from HZD 2 (a game I dropped out of boredom) I see no reason to buy PS5 first.

XSX and Halo Infinite at launch are now a lock for me. Sony announces next GOW for launch and I’ll buy both. Otherwise (considering the shoddy build quality of my Pro) I’ll wait on Sony to work out the kinks.

I've just seen so many cross gen games, they always have the scope of the old machines. Sure it looks shiner, but that's usually it. The canvas they have is so much smaller to work with. And it would have been awesome to see Halo Infinite without the Xbox one anchor. That will absolutely limit its scale greatly.

Pretty sure it was the price point plus the fact that Sony didnt try and fudge over customers by locking games to a system.
Also exclusives!!!

Someone should add 12TF!!! around the last few frames when he opens his mouth :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The Smart Delivery thing is actually what I expect PS5 to have in some form as well, or let's say Sony would be dumb to not have something similar.
I mean, this is the way forward and this is also why we won't be seeing cross gen games. There is no point when next gen is nothing more than a beefier refresh of current gen (just like XO/PS4 > X/Pro), it's like buying a new GPU for your PC.

Sure, but there's Halo Infinite 2 to look forward to then

Does this confirm that PS5 is 9TF as amd leaks shows ?

Well, here's the thing, since it does seem pretty accurate now, it's possible that Sony pushed its clocks slightly harder in order to push up to 10TF, just to have that double digit number and make things closer, but that would have to be at the expense of a possible overheat with consoles getting dust over time. The question is, would they push and risk it just to close the gap?

Yes! Xbox is bringing it next-gen. I'm now glad they got kicked around early this gen. They took their lumps and learned hard lessons about underpowered hardware, lack of first-party support and confusing messaging, among other things. MS has been forced to reinvent themselves and prove their metal to winback the hardcore.

Now Xbox's potential has never looked stronger. The machine sounds legit awesome and their services are already unparalleled. 2020 is going to be the redemption year for the X and they are taking back N. America, imo.

Exactly why I am in wait and see mode on PS5. Guessing Sony will go with a smaller form factor (too traditional to even consider a tower design) and when you throw in higher clocks you didn’t plan for you are courting disaster.

as a huge sony fan, if they announce 9 tf, i will fucking cry and skip their console and just wait till they release a 12tf or higher.
I think if Sony is 9TF then they probably won't say it in their marketing.. I'm a huge Sony fan too. I have my Pro but also have an X. I want to go back to just having a Sony ecosystem. I don't want to be forced to buy two consoles again. I want the best experience but also my Sony Exclusives. If Sony reveal specs less than XSX.. I think it's going to hurt them. Looks like this next generation they've made a mistake. I'm still going to buy a PS5 day 1 because I'm all for the games but I won't be happy about it.

i AM BY NO MEANS A INSIDER OR HAVE ANY INSIDER INFO BUTTTTTTTT, if i just do the math and listen to some people at some studios i know, both consoles are reaaaallly close in power and calculate things differently.

no offense but you are a fool if you think that porting all their exclusive game on pc was not an already planned thing to do since day one.
and we are not talking about year 7 lol, they reveal this stuff after 1-2 year or something more (or less, i don't remember)

it's not a move that you think today for tomorrow, let's be honest here.

also the fact that having an xbox one when you already have a gaming pc is not useless for you, doesn't mean that is not useless for me and a lot of people.
in my italian forum there was a giant topic with all the people with my problem, and it was a LOT of people, it's not hard to understand why a console that you only use for gaming become useless when you already have a gaming pc that does almost everything better, it's pure logic.

i have my pc in my gaming room with my oled 4k tv and my monitor, both attached via hdmi, and a lot of people have the same arrangement, i don't understand your problem or why you are being snarky or obtuse...

also i don't really understand the rest of your post, it was not my point from the start, i know that pc and console are 2 different world, i was not talking in abstract about people with pc that need or not a console, i was talking about people like me who bought a xone FOR THE EXCLUSIVE GAMES just to discover that they were porting everything on pc.

i was just sharing how the lack of clarity from M (call that how you want, i don't really care) fucked me and a lot of people, you were one of the people who was not fucked? good for you, i can still talk freely about my experience instead of defending a bilionaire company because fanboyism or whatever reason push you to intervene about my experience...
do you want me to say that i'm happy that i bought a console for his exclusive just to discover a little later that i don't really need that fucking console to play the "exclusive" games? give me 400 dollars via paypal and i can say all you want.

sorry for the shitty english, also i'm not really on the mood for a forum fight for such a stupid things, we probably have similar ideas after all, i can see that from your posts.
Yeah, I'm sure we see eye-to-eye on a lot and I do understand for some people who expected to only be able to play Xbox exclusives on the consoles, seeing them go to pc might have felt like a fuck you.

But as somebody who was at launch presentations with MS and Sony and spoke with a lot of reps, I can tell you from my experience, PC was the furthest thing from their minds. I think they did a 180 when changes in the Windows platform occurred and GaaS became viable.

I'm not defending any billionaire company, just calling it like I see it. Doesn't have to be a defense force to have some truth to it.

Nice chatting, again, I'm sure we see eye-to-eye on a lot of stuff. Forza Juve.

I wonder if they will go $600 but add in a couple of years of Gamepass or something. It just seems too high spec for anything less than $500. Of course if Microsoft were real serious about trying to become market leader, they would go $400. Thats not going to happen though.
I think these specs at $400, and even hardcore Sony fanboys would consider getting one to go along side their PS5's. Even some PC gamers would probably go with it instead of upgrading their PC's. I'm thinking about doing that anyway.

this is fucking HUGE. did sony confirm anything of this? will we get the PS5 VERSION if we buy the ps4 version for example?
Well it should be like that because this gen to next gen is very different to all previous generations.. There is no reason to be a separate purchase. It's like PS4 to PS4 Pro, the game will just play better. No different to having a PC game on a slower PC to faster PC. The architecture is the same, just upgraded.

imagine gta 6 with population density of ac unity and rdr2 (or better) ia for every npc thanks to the new cpu.

just a thought that i had a minute ago.
Now imagine all that large number of NPC's with varying levels of AI, large number of interactive objects in the game world (stone that chips, wood that splinters, steel that melts with intense heat) AND Dynamic weather and interactive foliage that reacts to the player and wind/rain including global illumination and full day/night cycles.

Imagine all that with graphics turned up to 11.

Eyeballs will melt. Panties will get wet.

Next gen is going to balls to the walls insane. I can feel it

Holy Shit. I just realised that 14TF GCN is possible after all. That was one of my first predictions early last year. I mean the 14TF GCN crowd got laughed at for that prediction. Just so ya'll know, this prediction of mine was made on that other forum R******A

Thou shalt not say that name

It won't hurt Sony at all. They will reveal a great new console, with all their strong IPs and it will sell gangbusters.

But MS are doing something clever. They are looking to put clear daylight, from a technical point of view, between themselves and Sony. Not a case of getting the magnifying glass out - rather a significant performance gap. And they have to do that, because they don't have any games to draw you to their platform. That's not a dig. In a few years' time we might see the fruit of all their studio acquisitions, but for the time being, for the wonder of all those specs, I have yet to see anything from a gaming point of view that demands I pick one up. Also, and I will say this until I'm blue in the face, they should have never let Bungie go. I know they wanted to leave, but Destiny would sell the X on its own.

Also, I could obviously be talking absolute nonsense, and Sony reveal a powerhouse themselves. I'd be surprised though.

They don't need to.

Lack of any news on Sony side is worrying, they probably fucked up with standard looking consoles where ~9TF is the celling and it will be loud and hot. While MS tower will be cool and quiet (+ big and ugly).

I'm actually over here desperately praying they release a similar powerhouse.! lol

I have a feeling this thing will launch at least $599-$699. Well, if it's a well made one with good and dead quiet vent - it may very well be a great platform to jump in to enjoy both PC, Xbox and BC games.... Very much would love to see it in action.

However, for the mainstream - they'd better have that Lockheart thing ready and affordable.... and prefrerably some sort of "trade-in & step-up" program for XSX...

So at this point I'm almost thinking the modes for their games, at least first party, are going to be either locked 60 4k, and up to 120 fps @ dynamic rez. Makes me wonder if 120FPS TVs are going to be the future of console gaming since resolution has nearly run its course @4k and HDR is nothing new. I don't think the HDMI tech is there yet though? At least not 4K@120+HDR.

You’re totally right in that the ps5 will sell
Gangbusters but this will hurt them. 12TF will attract all the hardcore gamers at launch. That will give MS back some momentum and will keep them in the hunt vs getting absolutely bodied by Sony this gen.

None really, I play cheap tat off Steam - but I still recognise that they have a distinct and clear gaming vision. Much like Nintendo. They have their usual Santa Monica stuff, so Uncharted, Last of Us and God of War. Then the new staples like Horizon alongside whatever Kojima cooks up. Atlus deliver the Japanese fare. They also did a good job of getting certain exclusivity arrangements on 3rd party titles (a practise I hate, but seems to be standard)

I don't see that with MS at the moment, and I think that's part of the reason why they're making such a play for power. It's the thing that makes them different. Watching their adverts, you'd be tricked into thinking you're picking up an Aston Martin.

What MS needs is the best console shooter in class, exclusive to their console. Perhaps that will be Halo, but it needs to be the game that defines online FPS for the next decade.

What are you talking about? Xbox One had suspended games since 2013, PS4 got it much later. Next gen Xbox is increasing it to multiple games, not just one.

Can someone explain RDNA2 to a dummy like me and why it's beneficial?
It is a state of the art GPU architecture that has not been formally unveiled yet for the PC market.
Like yearly improvements of smartphones or whatever, the same will be the case for RDNA2.
That's why it is a big deal because consoles tend to have old/outdated components, but not this time around.
Basically guaranteed 4K/60 gaming with all the bells and whistles, but it doesn't end there, games will be build with the fix specifications in mind.
Therefor whatever is available on PC as is will look like a last gen game at some point (so far games weren't developed for the highest possible specs and a lot of potential is/has been wasted).
