Hearing maybe shortages due to CODIV-19 haven't heard anything about a delay. Also still haven't heard anything about full backwards compatibility. (I said full PS4 bc from day 1) Not saying it's not happening just saying I still haven't heard anything about it.

I was telling my self they would do a paper launch before they delay it.
IMO things have to get really bad for them to shift to 2021 full launch .
This goes for MS also .

So whats the delio going on, PS5 is confirmed to be RDNA 2 meaning it will be hardware ray tracing much like how Cerny confirmed last year? Also anything new pop up from teh AMD thingy mabobber?

In all honesty I'm not too keen on full backwards compatibility, unless they use deep learning to upscale Res and add Ray Tracing to PS1 games, compared to just putting in a PS1 disk and playing as if it's 1995 🤔

To be fair to Gavin Stevens Gavin Stevens Gavin Stevens Gavin Stevens , I think he was working off the assumption "full" RDNA2 was 7nm EUV (as many of us were thinking until yesterday) and that the consoles were going to use 7nm instead of EUV. So any RDNA2 features would've been pulled from the roadmap onto custom APUs of 7nm process node. Doing so could effectively consider them RDNA2 even if they weren't EUV.

Then AMD sideblinded a lot of us by showing RDNA2 was 7nm all along and they're skipping right to 5nm for RDNA3. 7nm EUV's been left in the dust. So I can't hold that against him for speculating RDNA 1.9, a lot of us were speculating similar since we didn't have a full picture of what RDNA2 actually entailed process node-wise.

EDIT: Never mind, he already answered this himself. Hate it when I jump the gun on replies xD.

Yup, I understood him ;) I was more like "poking" him in a friendly way :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Just about. It does raise some questions about XSX's form factor, then. It's not massive honestly, but it is unusual compared to typical consoles. I think it fits the theory of them giving some headroom to upclock if they feel the need to against PS5.

So there's a chance PS5 will be more traditional in its size (I hope it's stylized like the V-shaped devkit, just a bit more muted in some areas and smaller sized would do).

I really like the devkit design with some final tweaks, and I have zero problems with XSX design as well and it could be a great design for skins and show offs. Still, not buying XSX anyway, will wait for Big Navi news.

We will need to see what the final PS5 retail units looks like but I believe that the cooling solution is likely more geared towards keeping the box small.

I think sony still wants these to fit in a standard av cabinet shelf and they want to minimize the retail footprint. ( retail floor and warehouse space is expensive).

The new GPU will be great but from everything i see devs saying the SSD and CPU are big things for next gen and what they looking forward to .
Really looking forward to GDC next few years to see what they do with them engine wise.

To only understand what ultra fast SSD's can do, we should only see what Star Citizen is doing although it's generic and more empty than launch Sea of Thieves and Launch No Man's Sky at its current state, but the potential is HUGE.

So if rDNA 2 is 50% better ppw then RDNA1 does that mean XSX is the equivalent of a 24tf gcn?

Wow if so.

No, it means if 12TF RDNA1 uses like 100 watts then 12TF RDNA2 should use 50 watts (example but not sure how much power it'll exactly use), meaning cooler consoles and less electricity consumption.

This shows why not 7nm EUV:

This also promises only 10% power savings from N7=>N7P process, +50% could come only from a major arch efficiency bump.
Diff to N7+ is also not that big, only 5% of additional power savings vs N7P.

Regular 7nm now includes N7+/N7P steps . Another benefit from euv though is a 20% density increase...with regards to cost of manufacturing.
