When Sony does give the specs i not looking forward to seeing crazy people come out on either side.
Just look how things are already .
If we end up with numbers two people saying 11.6 or 12.4 that won't fucking mean a thing on either side.
Hell the API and how the engine is done will have a bigger effect or the other system parts could .

Hey folks, I have a question

So, Navi 21 is up to 4096-5120 SU. I don't even know what this is. Shader Unit?
Anyway, there's a recent interview by a dev and she stated that "...PS5 will allow us to use an incredible Texel density, up to 4096px/m..."

Are those things related? Can someone explain what SU and Texel density are?

Interview:

I believe the 4096-5120 SU part of Navi21 is an estimate and remains unconfirmed.

Yeah it seems to have gone pretty quiet suddenly. Maybe they're all having a rest? Or the floodgates are about to open?

It sure would be nice if Sony would tell us the TF number of the PS5, but I don't think that is going to happen for a while. If they announce thirteen TF, microsoft could possibly adjust their clockspeed and try to match. I think which console is the most powerful is more important than ever before.
Anything can happen, but the longer it goes, the worse it gets IMO.

If this was 2013, they would have already talked PS4, screamed 8gb GDDR5 and a YT video with two execs in it making fun of Xbox would be itching around the corner.

Not so eager this time.

I would like to ask any developers here about what they feel were the top limitations of the GPUs of the PS4 and the last XBox and how they think RDNA2 will fix these issues. For example, was bandwidth the main limitation? Was pixel throughput? Was texel density?

Latest Wired article back from October 2019:

He says this like he says many other things: knowing he'll fend off any follow-up question that ventures beyond what he wants to talk about. Like, What does the UI actually look like? Or, How big will the SSD be? Or even, Is that a microphone? Which is exactly what I ask when Cerny hands me a prototype of the next-generation controller, an unlabeled matte-black doohickey that looks an awful lot like the PS4's DualShock 4. After all, there's a little hole on it, and a recently published patent points to Sony developing a voice-driven AI assistant for the PlayStation. But all I get from Cerny is, "We'll talk more about it another time."

Isn't he technically implying that there will be another Wired article eventually? Or am I reading too much into this? And with Heisenberg liking that post, what if we are getting another Wired article in the coming weeks? Again, just pure speculation.

I feel like something is about to blow up come this Tuesday, maybe an info drop by Sony detailing more about the PlayStation 5 and what its GPU is capable of especially after AMD detailing the RDNA 2 architecture and what it does and all that, after confirming it for PS5.....I hope so, because insiders now here like Heisenberg FX4, OsirisBlack & developer BGs are so quiet now it’s eerie, or maybe I’m deluding myself 🤣🤣

I wasn't around when this gen launched, can someone fill me in on this whole fraud insider thing? Is this normal? Is there always an influx of faux insider clout chasing when a gen launche s?

Nothing much goes on during the weekend and Coronavirus is literally dominating the news these days.

Though, if MS speaks on something again for a third(fourth?) time this coming week, I'll start to be a little concerned.

No. Nearly all the insiders last gen got it right. That's how we knew about used games and online check ins and kinect months in advance.

This gen insiders have already been right about the Xbox so far. We will see if they ere right about the ps5.

However, every gen there is influx of ms astroturfers. This website banned many after one of the mods was sent an email with a list of dozen or astroturfers.

According to people with no hidden-agendas or ulterior motives -- AMD was actually talking about the yet to be announced, confirmed, or revealed Xbox Series S AND not the PS5.

yeah that's what I was trying to understand

I don't really follow this thread closely but I always see new bans from it for what sounds like trying to falsely present as an industry insider

Wasn't sure if thats a regular thing

Yup.

Last gen was a weird one because specs seem to leak for both Xbox One and PS4, and it even included schematics. I remember seeing them where Xbox One would have specs showing 8gb DDR3 and 68 gb/s second and whatever. A gaffer had also re-posted an even earlier leak in 2012 where some insider leaked Xbox One and PS4 specs. The final specs for both systems were pretty close. And that was a good 1.5 years out.

I've been following this guy for a while now, do you guys think he's reliable?

I usually find him to be reliable, unlike MBG he doesn't make crazy predictions but he does play it very safe and at times he can be vague with his statements, for example. as soon February ended he tweeted "my sources told that we'll here more about PS5 in March", well no shit. I like how he waited for February to end so he could conveniently tweet what his "sources" told him it would be revealed in March. I just find it suspicious.

But I read one of his tweets recently and his sources told him Mark Cerny and Sony are investing significantly in the PS5's cooling system, energy/power efficiency and insulation and as result PS5 would be "whisper quiet" in operation. Take it with a grain of salt but it does make a lot of sense, we've already seen the PS5 unique/strange V shaped design which is going to be used for cooling and even the Bloomberg report stated Sony were investing in a "expensive" cooling system. I also remember reading an article over a year ago which stated the PS5 was aiming to efficient in terms of energy consumption. If all of this is true and I'm hoping it is, it would be great!

This week, Sony got rid of the last PS4 related info not known so far that could be holding them back, GoT's release date, and AMD released some technical data about PS5 Sony themselves never clarified before. It's definitely time for them to talk more about their next gen console.

What do you think about Dealer Gaming, colteastwood, and all the other Xbox guys sticking with GitHub? They actually think the PS5 is going to be 9.2TF because of the GitHub leak. Especially Dee Batch, I remember him calling the leak “the smoking gun” during one of their RDX podcasts lol.

What's their excuse now, there's an RDNA 2 9.2 TF Oberon version outside the leaks?

I don't find none of those guys reliable or objective when discussing next-gen consoles, they're clearly biased. I don't like those kind of toxic fanboys and same with the Sony ones.

As for the Github leak, it's pretty much dead, just read the thread over the past few days, the Github leak looks more unreliable as the days go by but I'm not flat out rejecting it, I think it only showed a certain context with regards to the PS5 but I could be wrong. What's more interesting is almost all the insiders, reliable and un-reliable all seem to neglect the 9.2 TF number and rightfully so, we've heard credible reporters stating the PS5 will be on par with the Series X on power as well.

Having said that, I think the PS5 will be around 11-12.5 TF and I also think it's going to edge the Series X out with it's SSD and maybe even RAM. What's even more interesting is, if it is pushing out 11.5 TF or more and still manages to be "whisper silent", then that would be amazing.

There was a Eurogamer article AFAIK in January 2013 showed leaks that XBox Durango was 1.2 TF while the Playstation Orbis was listed as 1.8 TF. Going by that, we should have had PS5 specs by now. But the only thing we have is the GitHub leak, and that’s heavily debated.

My speculation: I've said this before, but I think there will be one more Wired article. Given the time difference between the first and second Wired articles, IF we go by that same time duration, we should get another one by March 31st. That doesn't mean the same time duration has to hold true, but I feel like Sony approached Wired to do these articles on some sort of time interval schedule. So it doesn't have to be March 31st exactly, but give or take a couple of weeks from that date, a Wired article should be due. That's why we got the first article so early last April: this has been Sony's plan for quite some time. They wanted to randomly drop info on a sporadic basis to get people excited, and it has worked. And I think the final Wired article will be the one to drop the bomb of a reveal date.

That being said, we can't forget that Sony was going to be at GDC. Yeah, it means they have that time to do a reveal or whatever, but Sony is likely sticking to their PR plan. So a Wired article can happen before the scheduled GDC time, but it would have to be this week. I'm thinking it's more likely that a Wired article will happen at the end of March or early April. This is especially likely if rumors hold true that MS is going to show Lockhart sometime during the month of March. MS will have both of their bomb announcements out of the way, so to speak. Sony can then have all that time for themselves.

I wouldn't look to much into articles dropping for the PS5, Sony love to go "steve jobs" and showcase the big features and design in front of a huge audience of media/journalists. It's also more exiting for us as fans. Speculation of course lol

Sony has just been very unpredictable for a few years now, so it's tough to say. I definitely think there will be a reveal event too, but I think another Wired article is first, and that article will serve as the announcement for the event. We shall see soon(y)!

bro listen carefully. it sounds like he is trying to have a deeper voice. I watched a video once of him. his voice jumped down an octave and I was like wtf is he doing

I have a deep voice myself, but it's his narrating and probably his accent what pulls your attention and linguistic tricks. He's a good "talker" :messenger_tears_of_joy:

1. GDC has been postponed, I forgot to what month but I know it’s not happening this month. I may be wrong though, since they might be doing online presentations.

2. Don’t you think that Microsoft revealing Lockhart this month (IF IT HAPPENS) gives credence to the “$499 PS5” rumours? Cause otherwise, if PS5’s price was anywhere below that, Lockhart would’ve been scrapped at that point.
