TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
MS taking advantage of the fact that everyone is at home and bored :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Your move, Sony! Do it!
Yep, with these PR videos they kinda control what we see
No fuck ups like live presentations
That's a big advantage

Becsuse of new MS technology:
"Sampler Feedback Streaming" -
XSX need only 10GB RAM....
on PC Gpu you will need 20-30GB of Ram to accomplish the same.

Xbox Velocity Architecture – The Xbox Velocity Architecture is the new architecture we’ve created for the Xbox Series X to unlock new capabilities never-before seen in console development. It consists of four components: our custom NVMe SSD, a dedicated hardware decompression block, the all new DirectStorage API, and Sampler Feedback Streaming (SFS). This combination of custom hardware and deep software integration allows developers to radically improve asset streaming and effectively multiply available memory. It will enable richer and more dynamic living worlds unlike anything ever seen before. It also effectively eliminates loading times, and makes fast travel systems just that: fast.
Sampler Feedback Streaming (SFS) – A component of the Xbox Velocity Architecture, SFS is a feature of the Xbox Series X hardware that allows games to load into memory, with fine granularity, only the portions of textures that the GPU needs for a scene, as it needs it. This enables far better memory utilization for textures, which is important given that every 4K texture consumes 8MB of memory. Because it avoids the wastage of loading into memory the portions of textures that are never needed, it is an effective 2x or 3x (or higher) multiplier on both amount of physical memory and SSD performance.

why do console fanboys fall for this junk every single time.

Not for next-gen games though.

It has toslink last time I looked

Nope

No. Sorry - those numbers don't add.

Predicted 52 CU back in Aug 2019. Feeling smug. Got everything else wrong though ..

The Last Word, is that....you?

Yep, the greatest MSFT shills get the scoop. How unexpected!!!

I really don't care who announces it as long as the information gets out, but I do like DigitalFoundry's presentation style.

Makes sense that Microsoft is going to go with trusted sources that have given them positive coverage in the past and can put together a slick and professional breakdown. Can't really fault either party for taking up this opportunity.

I will say alot of this is PR talk, but still, this is definitely the most impressive specs I've seen for a console vs current PC tech in a loooong time.

We're looking a 2080ti realm no? And that's not counting the RT stuff that doesn't use the GPU.

What do we think of the hardware and just how big is it really? We put together some Series X size comparisons vs Xbox One X to give you an idea of its dimensions - and no, it's NOT a PC mini-tower. It's not like they are the only ones, who get to see what's next for MS. Austin Evans also have a video and he was pretty fucking harsh (harsh but fair in this sense) about XB1 in his documentary about consoles.

Maybe you should educate yourself about what it means:

If it is coming to DX12, then it will available to PC versions, and you won't, in fact, need 20-30 gbs of RAM to match the Xbox. My original post stands.

I have bought all consoles but generally playstation is my choice to play.

I just wonder how sony will answer the bell against this beast. I mean design wise its beautiful to me. The perfect minimalist look. Plus its powerful - a true leap. Xbox one and ps4 didnt make a full generational leap like the ps3 and 360.

I wonder why sony is staying quiet? Last minute changes? Now is the time I think. I think ms was right to do it now. Everyone bored and good news to us is great news.

I would love to know the price of this console.

Some of you seem to care more about being a keyboard hero than gaming as hobby.
To use your logic or lack-thereof:

What was so great about PlayStation's reveal with Wired, beside being a name more known than Digital Foundry to the masses?
Have you bothered to look at their gaming coverage? It's laughable to say the least and that itself boggles my mind why PlayStation choose them.
Digital Foundry gets hate for whatever reason when they put out Microsoft related content, but it's the best thing ever since slice bread when they cover PlayStation content.

Furthermore and once again if you gave a rats ass about gaming and bothered to check their YouTube channel or website you might have notice they cover far more gaming news than Wired - for all platforms.
If you watched the video you will see that Richard behaved like a little child when putting the console parts in the case - I find that fucking awesome because it's the stuff gamers normally do - you probably wouldn't know what that mean.
I honestly rather someone that loves games and the gaming industry to coverage it instead of a hit and run piece done by a company that barely have any interest, last piece of advice - knowledge is power, don't hit yourself at the exit.

I thought it would be 56CUs giving the die size.
It is. But only 52 are enabled. It is kind of a given that they add redundancy to get higher yields.

If anything, this shows how powerful RDNA2 really is... And I guess we can expect a 56CU RDNA2 graphics card to be released for PC. And if they can put a 52(56) CU in a console, honestly, an 80 CU graphics card for the desktop is not unreasonable... No wonder the rumors are saying that nVidia is worried about RDNA2.

I always thought the choice of Wired was really weird. Like, who gives a shit about Wired these days?

DF might be MS shills and they might be peddling MS PR right now but the article is fine. Their Xbox One X articles were also fine, and accurately described the system and its capabilities.

I mentioned this too a week or two ago.

The responses I remember were that Wired is still a huge publication (even though it's not game focused), and Wired offices are in California so it's close to Sony head office.

I hope to hear something about VR. That's one thing I noticed upgrading my PC, VR really shines at higher specs. I mean, more than I imagined it would. This thing with optimization could easily run Half Life Alyx with lots of bells and whistles.

Ok hear me out.

Microsoft partners with Valve.

Xbox Series X come with Steam pre-installed.

Valve VR Hardware. Xbox Compatible.

Day. One.

Then I wake up.

Wake up, Chief.

Damn, it looks so good. I’ll be pre ordering this for day one.

was that USB C on the controller?

we are not near to ff15 cg movie quality (so light years away from star wars movie level of cg) and you think people are not gonna be woowed by next gen? think again...

just the jump in physics with actual good modern cpu is gonna be glorious to admire.

remember that rdr2 was created around an ultra shitty old ass notebook cpu and a 1.3 tf gpu...
gta6 is gonna blow minds and dicks.

I think you're wrong, most of the grunt is going to get eaten up driving 4k as standard, and while games will be better looking I don't see it being anywhere close to the sort of seismic shift that we've had in the past.
Also, and maybe this is just me. but it seems to me CG has no wow factor anymore, the entire cinematic landscape is littered with technically amazing stuff these days and its gotten so commonplace people just don't react to it the same way they used to. It probably doesn't help that most CG-blockbusters are really formulaic and often poorly written so they don't have much impact as stories, but still... when was the last time you heard people talking about how amazing the spectacle in x movie was?

I guess you called them Sony shills all gen?

I don't read them.
Eurogamer became like Kotaku approx 5 years ago. Don't read them since.
But they were hardcore PCMR/MSFT shills back then too. The worst kind: they shill for MSFT only because they think it will throw them more PC-port bones.
And in the end it seems like it's happening. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It does not work this way it's more like 12TF rasterised graphics, 13TF raytracing graphics. But even then it's not accurate. You cannot combine this stuff together!
Yeah, I'm not interested in splitting hairs. Sure, there would be some overhead. But basically, you would need 25 teraflops for that mix of 12TF rasterized + 13 TF raytraced graphics without specialized hw.

And what do you mean "it's more like 12TF rasterised graphics, 13TF raytracing graphics"? That's exactly what I said it was. Hence, 13 TF "equivalent" for the RT.

For years, I have theorized that once you get past around 20 TF's, you will want to start allocating around half of your flops towards raytracing. Luckily, we don't have to do that now since we have fixed function hw for that! I did not expect mainstream hardware raytracing to surface for another 5 years from cataloging the progress of the Imagination Technologies prototype RT chip from a couple years back.

Don't we say this every gen just to be disproved?

Look at the reaction for hellblade 2, people are wanking themselfs for just some realistic gums and teeth...

The process node Series X will be baked on:

TSMC has started rolling out an optimized version of their N7 process called N7 Performance-enhanced version (N7P). This process goes by various other names such as “2nd generation 7 nm” and “7 nm year 2”. This process should not be confused with N7+. N7P is an optimized, DUV-based, process which uses the same design rules and is fully IP-compatible with N7. N7P introduces FEOL and MOL optimizations which are said to translate to either 7% performance improvement at iso-power or up to 10% lower power at iso-speed.

Ohh cool, I misinterpreted your message then : )

...lacks reading comprehension.
I wonder why they stress that with RT it essentially pulls 25 TF vs. a console that would use shaders for the job. LOL. 9.2 TF with shader based RT worth 2.4 TF = 11.6 TF RDNA1.

Watching the DF Hands-on video, and both DF guys seem to love it. Even the 1TB external SSD is getting good impressions.

When the system launches, you can already tell these guys are going to love it.

For you gamers who like the suspend/resume function, they showcased a slew of games using resume/suspend. at about the 13 minute mark And they load in about 5-6 seconds. They were existing games though. Not Series X games.
