Sony is the clear winner of this gen, they have much much stronger and more popular brand (outside of us/uk) so why should they change their release plan when MS "panics" and shows all of their cards?

It's still like 6-8 months till they are sold on stores, do you think that people just see xsex specs and think "ok now I will buy xbox, I ignore ps5 reveal when it happens before they are available"?

I would estimate that Sony will wait for some time until they reveal PS5 specs bit by bit, gaining HUGE hype and attention while MS have nothing else to reveal, or only minor stuff.

So, near the launch Sony have their brand popularity + brand loyalty + epic success of ps4 + the hype from reveal closer to the launch = fatality.
Where did i said, that someone is changing their plans?

I was reacting to the argument that "Sony are more powerful, that's why they've been quiet, they didn't want to give Microsoft time to respond. " which is clearly bullshit.
Sony have their timetable, Microsoft have theirs. There is nothing like "I won't show my product because i know, my product is more powerful"

I'm not saying they wont use it, just that quite a few devs won't...…..Just like many devs didn't bother to use the EDRAM properly on XBONES after a while, it becomes a headache.....I think lots on indies wont use it, and we can all attest to some bad ports this gen, some devs just wont bother to maximize all the hardware, especially if Series X does not fly off the shelves......

I cannot imagine the mental loops you'd have to jump through if it turns out the PS5 has the exact same setup. I suppose you do realise, that developers have API's to handle most of the hard work. Right? It's not like they have to choose "this goes there and this goes there" for every single instruction.

MS could overclock XSX GPU via a firmware update. It depends on the cooling solution's extra TDP headroom.
Yup, you can. And also, you can do this in summer (like in Xbox One case). Do you expect Sony to withhold next-gen info until summer, so Microsoft wouldn't be able to up the clocks?

I don't think MS's chief problem now is a lack of TF, it's a lack of enough available Vram to devs…...I wager many devs wont even use the slower 3.5GB as it will complicate things for them, so you are looking at 10GB of optimal Vram here...…..It may be too late to upgrade Vram, but who knows, they've revealed very early and people always say they have lots of cash, so I can definitely foresee some tweaking, just like they did to XBONES in 2013.....We shall see,,,

The Xbox Series X is the biggest generational leap of SoC and API design that we’ve done with Microsoft, and it’s an honor for AMD to partner with Microsoft for this endeavor. The Xbox Series X is going to be a beacon of technical innovation leadership for this console generation and will propagate the innovation throughout the DirectX ecosystem this year and into next year. It is a privilege to be Microsoft’s trusted partner, and we look forward to a successful launch this holiday season!
It seems AMD inadvertently leaked the console hardware king.

@Mod of War would permaban every single user suggesting that DF is intentionally lying or making up stuff.
These kind of accusations are serious and should not be allowed. Acuse someone of corruption is no joke, and it would be strong evidence to suggest such thing.
DF did that to themselves after they choose to not reports things (or just report baseless rumors) from a side to focus in another.

It's being taken out of context and overblown (like the FP16 PS4 Pro comments), but it is someone from MS making the claim ...

I get what the guy is saying but I’m flabbergasted why so many people can’t.

XsX is 12 TF plus 380 billion RT operations. Impressive, but that’s it.

Maybe they're waiting for confirmation on those IPs from Konami, as that is one MASSIVE megaton microphone drop no matter what specifications you end up with in the end
I don`t think it will be a massive thing. Of course Konami IPs have fans, but those games are not for casuals and casuals are the absolute majority of the console buyers. Good games no question but they are no FIFA or Call of Duty. If Sony really gets those IPs and doesn't port them to PC they will get a shitstorm from PC owners and if the do they are not a reason for Pc fans to buy a PS5.

😂😂This is bait right? You know how mabybtimes we've heard pr bs yo then find out later otherwise. Sure it'll be a beacon for Microsoft consoles so the claim rings true🤦‍♂️Some of you never learn and act as if all time and time again we don't hear the same type of language. When did you start gaming? Yesterday?

So MS calling RT can do additional 13TFs is like nVidia slide about RT Cores having a peak 23TFs in a 10TFs GPU?

geforce-rtx-gtx-dxr-metro-exodus-rtx-rt-core-dlss-frame-expanded-850px.png

That means RT Cores are at least twice faster/stronger than AMD solution?

Another meaningless number.
NV can say it's 100TF. It doesn't matter.
Until we know exact numbers of rays per second for AMD it is comparing apples to oranges.

Same. I'm seriously surprised that after all the issues ESRAM from XB1 caused, and after learning their mistake wit X1X, MS is once again going into split bandwidth setup, and split pool on top of that. Granted, almost half of the slower RAM will be reserved for the OS, but that still leaves the developers in an uncomfortable position woth those 3.5GB. Even a 12GB GDDR6 with full bandwidth + 4GB DDR4 for OS would be a better (easier/safer) option in my opinion.

The memory setup is slightly weird, but assuming developers minimize CPU access to the 10GBs at non-critical rendering points, then when working with GPU and CPU memory discretely, they get two pools working at 56GB/s per gigabyte simultaneously. You can’t say it is 560 + 336GB/s bandwidth, but the ability to have 1second bursts of R/W to 1GB @ 56GB/s in pool 1 at the same time as R/W to 1GB @ 56GB/s in pool 2 is still impressive IMHO.

Had they gone with 12GB unified the GB/s per gigabyte figure would then drop and channel/module symmetry would be lost - because you'd then do 3x 4GB. On balance they probably haven't thought they could live with a different setup- maybe even because if they have to upclock slightly, two pools might allow for that situation better .

Well, devs could create a DX9a FP16 shader era game at 8K 60 fps.

Blame AMD PR, not the observer. :messenger_winking:

OMG, i Can't wait, i can't control it, something inside of me is buzzing and my imagination has gone wild trying to think what will be shown, Gran Turismo ray tracing example?, the box?, some games? the controller? bzzzzzzz i'm buzzing, i didn't think i would care too much but i can't lie that this feeling is amazing!

What if we end up with a situation where MS is 12,1 LOCKED (Remember when MS pushed several times in DF video that the clocks where locked and that it could do these clocks all day long) and Sony has 13,3 turbo - meaning it can reach 13,3tf but not all the time?

That is if they use the same APU, 52CU vs 52CU.

Then it become a question of cooling solutions and ambient temperature, if the console is well ventilated and so on.

That wouldn't make any sense because teh devs would have to target the lowest guaranteed processing power/clocks anyway.

On the other hand, maybe sony waited all that time because they wanted to see what microsoft has. And when Ms showed off, sony knew that they can march in and take no prisoners because ps5 is stronger. So all this waiting was because of ms, damn them 😅

OR - Sony simply wants to reveal the console with some actual games running on it. Because what MS shown so far is nice, but it's nothing we already saw TBH, especially on gaming PCs, just some old games with bumped up res/FPS/faster loadings.
