So Italy went into official lockdown on March 9th. we are coming up on 3 weeks shortly. Italy just had its highest day of deaths yet at over 900. Cases are staying somewhat flat though the % of new cases has shown a decline. But they are still getting over 5K cases a day.

So has their lockdown been a failure? Did they do something differently then China, or does this make you trust China's numbers even less?

Or is everything working and this thread will be an epic backfire in a few days as Italians will finally get to see the fruits of their sacrafice?

What can the rest of the world learn from Italy? Do we have to keep the hope because if Italy fails then the rest of the world fails?

Oh man, I don’t know. I find it a very interesting thread but a difficult one to give my take in. Because I just don’t know. One thing I know is, if the UK’s fate is similar in 2-3 weeks to that of Italy I will be so sad to see it and frightened for the older members of my family.

Italy is a prime example for what NOT to do in the situation of a global outbreak. You do not INTENTIONALLY RUB AGAINST CARRIERS OF AN UNKNOWN AND OBVIOUSLY HIGHLY INFECTIOUS DISEASE TO PROVE A POINT. No pity.

Wait, what? This was happening?

Wuhan started its lockdown on the 23rd of January. The deaths lag a lot

Italy went into full lockdown on March 9th, their daily cases have plateaued, the deaths haven't yet. It's working though.

I think it sets a good example for us of how long a lock down needs to last.
If the incubation period can be as long as 14 days (I think it can be longer), a family can spread it among themselves for over a month. If they're in an apartment building, the possibilities are unfortunately endless unless there are strict checks in addition to the quarantine order.
The amount of deaths is just another example of how long this can take. A person can be infected, not show symptoms for 2 weeks, then end up deteriorating until thy're on a respirator and passing away 3 weeks later. That's 5 weeks from the date of infection. Pretty fucking crazy.

Fortunately, you would expect that the daily death toll will start decreasing shortly.

A Chinese person is not a carrier by virtue of being a Chinese person. They were hugging a Chinese guy, not a carrier.
So let us break down your post.
Chinese =/= Carrier
You said "Chinese, not a carrier" as if one of those attributes disqualified the other. Therefore, according to you, the Chinese cannot be carriers.
Now, do us all a favor, and tell us why Italy got hit so fuck-me hard by the virus right after the ceremony where all the Italians wanted to rub themselves against the Chinese in solidarity?

They know a soccer game was where a big part of the disease spread

I haven't heard anything about the chinese guy they were hugging being a spreader, have you? Or are you talking out of your ass?

Tell us how the china virus traveled all that way to a random Italian soccer match? Is Corona a big fan of Roma?

Probably referencing people hugging Chinese/Asian people to virtue signal against racism. It wasn't as though they were touching confirmed cases though. Can't remember if it was in its own thread or the clown thread.

There’s a Curb Your Enthusiasm bit here. Larry says something accidentally racist towards Asians and then sees the HugAChinese hashtag and starts hugging Asian people in the street.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m hugging a Chinese to show I’m not racist! *unintelligible awkward word salad*”

“I’m Korean”

The hugging was done to one Chinese guy in Florence. The first case in Florence was an Italian guy who came from Singapore an Philippines. The Chinese guy they were hugging had nothing to do with it. Do you really don't know how diseases spread? It could come from anyone at that point not necessarily a Chinese and there's no evidence the Chinese guy they were hugging spread any disease.

How does a contact disease spread? Why was Italy hit particularly hard right after the event? and it was not just one guy, you fool. it was an event promoted by the mayor of Florence. Then when his dumb ass thought "oh shit maybe hugging people from an infected country for good boy points wasn't such a good idea", boarded up people in their homes, and deployed tanks? You sure love to speak arrogantly, yet you refuse to answer my question; how did the disease come over to Italy, and why was the timing so perfectly in line with this fucking mistake?

I just told you that the first infected in Florence (where the hugging thing happened) came from Singapore, are you incapable of reading or what?

Italy's lockdown happened too late after the virus had already spread, but as of now it is working because all current cases and deaths are from previous infections and there will much fewer infections going forward.

I still voted for option 3 though because this OP is way too early. In a few months, we'll be able to evaluate every country's response and how effective it was.

US will be #1

The first is no concern of mine. My concern is that Italians made their situation exponentially worse by intentionally exposing themselves to potential carriers in ways that would make them sick.

Yep. and do you think that hugging chinese tourists really had no effect on the disastrous spread in Italy? there are other causes, yes. But THAT was Italy's fuck up and it was their choice and it bit them in the ass.

First you ask where it came from and then you say you don't care where the first case came from? Huh? I was responding to the poster claiming that they were hugging known carriers which is factually wrong since there is no proof whatsoever than anyone hugged a carrier in Florence or that they got something from hugging a Chinese person. The evidence points towards the disease coming into Florence from an italian guy who came from Singapore

They could have been hugging americans at that point and they would have also been in danger. The disease was spread through the world already.

Wow. I know SJWs have a reputation for being cucks without common sense, but really? Hugging strangers in the face of an epidemic?

That level of stupidity is literally criminally dangerous 🤦‍♂️

No. Hugging Chinese people was a good idea, yo. There were no infected Chinamen in Italia, you see?

Could be, that's what they call a super spreader, they have managed to trace back tens of thousands of infections to just one individual.

And hugging people from the country of origin had absolutely no effect,, according to you. and the timeline of hugging a chinese to the explosion of cases is all circumstance and it all has to do with one italian from singapore?

I don't have evidence to claim that they were hugging "known" infected cases like the original post said. And you don't have either so it is incorrect to claim they were hugging known infected chinese people. Like I said, by that time the disease was already everywhere so it could have come from anyone and the evidence points that an italian coming from singapore was the first case in Florence. I'm not going to speculate without evidence where it came from and accuse unknown people, that's retarded.

So hugging Chinese people to prove a point was, in fact, a good and smart thing to do. Not at all a fucking stupid risk to prove how inclusive you are to the world.

Just going to chime in that hugging people possibly from a country at that time saturated by the Coronavirus, to virtue signal, is completely insane regardless if it was or wasn’t the cause.

It’s also probably not a very smart idea.

Common sense, logic, and observation of causality are not racist.

Right. You just said this never happened at first until I corrected you. Your argument is invalid because you tried to deny the existence of an event commonly known to be true.

are there such things as chinese carriers?
Yeah like there are american, italian, finish or moroccan carriers regardless of nationality. Anyone can be a carrier and there's no evidence that any of the infection in FLorence came from hugging a Chinese carrier. The evidence that exists of a carrier in the region is of an Italian man coming from Singapore

so you agree that chinese carriers exist. do you think that a greater number of chinese carriers existed at the time, being the country of origin?

Not necessarily considering the disease was already spread. And even if there were more Chinese carriers in general, there is no evidence to say any one of those were in Florence and was hugged by people so why would I claim someone is a carrier when I have no evidence of them being one?
