I can agree to that. From an Xbox fan point of view I can see why last generation was very difficult for them. Some of those people had no bullets to fire until the Xbox One X came out. Exactly, entire APUs in X1X and base 28nm consoles are 330-360mm (same as XBX) and cost around 110-115$, so Sony having 100$ cheaper APU would mean they are getting them for almost free, which isn't the case obviously.

You turn it to high or medium as an example and switch between those according to the situation instead of keeping it at high all the time. that way it won't overheat. Whereas the Xbox keeps it at high and thus forced there entire design around it with the cooling. I think Sonys solution makes more sense the more I think about it.

Sony would do 399 and take a big loss (they took a 200 dollar loss with PS3 and didn't have revenues for services, even online was free) only if really forced by the situation.
The worst possible I can think of is:
-for some reasons, announced third parties runs significantly worst on PS5.
-MS continues to show its console, it's great and everyone is amazed, while Sony fucks up the marketing all the year and everyone is let down.
-There is no big game at launch while MS should at least have Infinite.
-Sony has much more shortage in units than MS, so could try keep customers waiting due to the lower price.

But we are talking about a fucking bad situation here.

Cooling: less expensive

Controller: less expensive

Differences between different all sections are within $1-2 with the exception of the APU.

I also think that. In my opinion there won´t be a 100$ difference in price. Especially the rumored Dualshock5 seems to be more advanced than the just small changes of the Xbox controller.

My reasonings for differences:
The PS5 SSD is custom and also smaller. The speed increase looks like its through added channels(better IO) not faster chips. (Is it even exchangeable?)
Looks like the PSU requirement for PS5 will be lower due to the variable CPU/GPU solution.
Also I suspect Sony getting better deals due to being sales leader at the moment with PS4.

I expect 50$ cheaper PS5.
