Instances of factually better graphics on console over PC

To be clear, this is not the place for the usual platform war rhetoric.
I'm interested to know what games were officially produced and released featuring superior quality visual assets on a console compared to the PC.

An example would be Disgaea 1. While the art style difference is subjective, Disgaea 1 Complete has more detailed character sprites than previous versions.

If there's ever an instance of this happening with a game that exists both on PC and on console(s) then it's a bad port.
Not necessarily. Console ports could be later releases with improved graphics. There's also the case of PS1 games having higher quality FMVs and PS2 era games having better audio and videos because PC got stuck with CDs for a while.

Can you give me some examples of where this has happened?

Also I thought the discussion was about real time graphics, not FMV's or audio that was poorly transitioned over to the PC version.

Here are some ideas:

-Doom 1 PSX had some cool lighting and effects than the PC version, although it ran at a lower framerate IIRC.

-Powerslave on Saturn was the best version of the game

-SimCity on SNES is arguably the best version of the game

-I'd rather play Diablo on a console with gamepad and direct control support, it's just more fun to play IMO

-Prince of Persia is on literally everything and the SNES one of the best ones.

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is (marginally) less blurry than the PC version.

The PC version of Toy Story 3 was actually a Wii port and not the 360/PS3 version.

But jokes on the publisher since after enough time, the PC can now emulate both and at higher fps.

You already have someone mentioning Just Cause on Xbox 360. Look for stuff like that. Later ports.

I also remember a number of Tom Clancy games having a dedicated shitty PC version as opposed to decent console one like GRAW and Rainbow Six Lockdown.

First one that came to my mind.

I think it's pretty rare that console versions of games looked better than on PC, but the cases where it happened were usually in very old games where the pc version was a completely different game than the consoles game, or some games in the early ps3/360 gen that got ported from the wrong version on PC. I think Cars was also like that, maybe some other disney games too.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!

So you're not really comparing the same game but some remaster PC never got? How is Disgaea 1 PC compared to Disgaea 1 on other platforms?

Er, Raven Shield which was that era's main PC game is better than any console Rainbow Six. But like GRAW they're not really the same game so, just because they share a title doesn't mean it's a game that "looks" better on x or y. Might as well compare Tomb Raider 1996 / Tomb Raider 2003.

The same goes for Powerslave someone else compared.

IIRC Phantasy Star Online on PC ended up inferior because the PC landscape could not keep up with the Dreamcast at that time.

I don't remember this? There was no PC version of PSO until well after the Dreamcast's run. When it did arrive, called PSO Blue Burst, the graphics looked just like DC but sharper and higher res.

This wasn't that uncommon in the late 80s/early 90s. Lots of people thought side scrollers like Mario would be impossible on PC until John Carmack made it work in 1990. These days, though? It's either due to sloppy ports or consoles getting unique versions with graphical features that never make it to the PC version.

Are you sure? Because I remember Quake 3 looking and running way worse on the Dreamcast than it did on my PC back then.

Don't quote me on this but wasn't there some issue with Fifa on PC earlier this gen? I think it was something like the Pc version was based on the last gen console version while on Ps4/Xb1 it was basically another version of the game with multiple improvements..... or something like that

There are tons of examples of best looking games overall on consoles every gen, mostly from Sony 1st party. I have trouble finding games on my recent PC which come close to Horizon or God of War, and that's expected.

It's a combination of money, time spent and the talent of artists, which exceed what you find on 3rd parties games.

But it's also the product of optimizing for a single platform, which never happens on my PC, where it's brute force everywhere. Makes up for a lot of "teraflops" (buzzword bonus).

The last thing kids must understand is consoles are not PC, everything is built for gaming in a console, including custom hardware, sometimes not even existing on PC (like PS5 SSD or special controllers). So the last thing that makes sense is comparing "teraflops" (which is useful in NASA computers a lot more than in gaming) from PC GPU and console GPU. Apples and oranges.

have you played Modern Warfare maxed out on PC?

There are some amazing looking experiences on PC but sometimes you need some mods and reshape filters (RE2R for example) to really get the full PC bonus, aside from frame rate improvements across the board

i owned this game as a kid

My condolences. I mean, not that the NES version was any good to begin with. BTW, wasn't it the DOS version of this game that had a literally impossible jump that you needed to cheat or glitch your way past? In fact I think its the jump in that screenshot!

Wasn't the PC version of DOA 5 not a PS3 port?

This means that the PS4 had better p̶l̶o̶t̶ graphics.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was. Pretty disappointing, because I was looking forward to that enhanced p̶l̶o̶t̶.

I looked it up just now and Just Cause came out on all platforms at the same time, so it's one of those strange instances where the PC port was based on a weaker system.

GRAW was a different game between PC and the 360 version so I don't know if that counts. I did think that the 360 one looked better visually though.

One of the Kane and Lynch games had missing enviroment shadows on PC, Driver Sn. Francisco had missing post processing effects, Test Drive Unlimited HDR looked a lot better in 360 I believe, there was a also a need for speed game that had better textures in 360, there were some games in 360 using tesellation but it was missing on PC (don´t remember which ones), The last SW battlefront has some terrain bugs in my experience, Battlefield 3 had shadow glitches on dx10 cards (it took like 8 months before it was fixed), I remember GRAW too (much better looking on 360), latest mortal kombat and Injustice games have animation hiccups that ruin the pc version, the last need for speed was missing rain effects for some time (fixed with a patch), Arkam City was awful on PC (stuttering).

Ps.- Fuck that port of DOA 5 too.

There was a PSO before BB. I remember playing it.

Doom 64 in some weird way (the assets are different) had things in the engine that Doom/DoomII never had. It was a case of the developers id moving on to other stuff but the console folks grinding out some cool lighting and effects. Check the DF Retro for more.
