The most egregious thing to me is calling this a remake. Why not just advertise it as what it is - FF7 JJ Abrams edition.
When they said that would flesh out the backstory of Midgar and its inhabitants I thought they meant like, seeing how Biggs and Wedge got into Avalanche and that Jesse had an abortion at some point or something.

Yeah that's tough bro. I feel you, I can't deal with PS1 graphics in this day and age. The story in the original is excellent and you're definitely not going to get that from this remake. In fact the remake kind of expects you to be familiar with not only the FF7 story but the additional content (that kind of sucked honestly) like Advent Children and Crisis Core. So in your case maybe just set your sights on another game lol.

That's not what I said, I just wanted the same FF7 with the same story, with the remake playing like kingdom hearts since they were going the action route (active time would have been fine for me as well) but also with the same complexities of how the original game's systems worked (materia but use in a action rpg)
If you want the original combat system, just go play the original.
If you want the original story, just go play the original.
The point is that they strayed far from the original as early as the battle system reveal, but fans of turn based combat were told "it's better, it's not a big deal, get over it". Just having a few sweet revenge laughs.
