The others and you in this thread are the minority, I assure you.
As someone that's into all genres, but primarily into hardcore and metalcore, I despise Djent and sounds associated with it.
That being said, of course when I heard samples of Mick's work on 2016 I groaned at it. I just wanted straight metal without beeps and boops. Especially without the Djent influence. But I knew that Mick did great work.
By the time 2016 dropped, I warmed up to it because it helped bring everything together in the experience. I still hate Djent, etc. This same feeling went on with DOOM Eternal.
You can hate the form of music all you want. But there's no denying that he's talented at what he does. If this DOOM series was meant to be a trilogy or then some, it wouldn't feel right having Mick do the first two and not the others. Definitely sounds like publisher strongarm bullshit. I mean, to put all this time and effort into your music, only to have someone else come in and start mixing and "finalizing" it. Sounds pretty damn gross. Especially for someone like Mick who sounds very much like a perfectionist.
