Spoilers being severely punished has been neogaf policy for a long long time it is part of the culture of the forum.

That being said in general spoilers are bad form so even if people did not know about the ramification of doing it on gaf they at least should have the courtesy to not do it just based on being good to other members.

If they restricted doing it to a circle of friends in a private space where they know it is ok and just banter between friends it might be fine (if those friends are ok with it) but the problem is they are doing it out in the open in public threads which hurts everyone in those threads from gaf members participating in those threads to members lurking to even unregistered people just enjoying reading gaf.

The warning thread about the punishment should help (and I support it) anyone who did not know but honestly it is common sense not to do it.

I'm really glad to see Birdo Birdo was given a second chance as I only really remember seeing funny posts from him in gaming threads and didn't think he was the type to catch a ban for breaking a rule. In general, I think permabans definitely should be given out more to users that have a history of breaking rules. It should go warning, temp-ban, possible longer temp-ban, and then permaban.

Just wondering as well if it's possible to edit out "Perm upheld" since leaving it in the ban message contradicts the date he will return?

I wish there was something we could do to at least stop these lowlifes from spoiling others.
Bans will happen but the damage will happen as well.

Other than making every new thread in the gaming section require mod approval, which would be a pretty extreme measure, I don’t think anything can be done, realistically

I am sure it will happen again before launch.

Pretty weird. I don’t think something like this has happened at GAF since I’ve been here, this widespread at least

I got TLoU 2 majorly spoiled thanks to fuckface DanielsM. Thread title was new release date for the game and inside was just a bunch of spoilers. Of course the biggest one was at the top. Clicked right out and 2 seconds later mods deleted the thread.

I've should've known better but why do that? What a fucking piece of shit. In just one second he ruined the whole game. Fucking trash human, I hope he chokes on some fucking Doritos, goddamn asshole. Your not safe anywhere these days. Fucking hate people.

When D DanielsM first joined up, in the very beginning I remember thinking he seemed alright. Turned out to be quite a cunt, eh?
My take:
Resetera groupies found an in to make people feel uncomfortable using threads in the neogaf gaming forum, and they are going to exploit it while they can. There will probably be a few more spoiler attempts, but they are just weak Sanders pussies so it won’t last too long or affect many people.

It seems to me that the ban durations are very front loaded mostly, and then immediately shift to perma bans. Most people are banned for a week or two, or permabanned, with nearly no middle ground to speak of.
From my point of view a better solution would be to generally increase the penalty durations over the board (turn what was previously a week to a month, what was previously a month to several months, up to maybe a maximum of year ban time) to make it hurt more, but reduce the likeliness for a permaban.
Example: we now have a situation with heavy spoilers going arround and it’s understandable that people dont want to get spoiled. It’s definitely debatable that someone deliberately spoiling others should be permed, however someone who posted a spoiler by mistake shouldn‘t suffer the same fate.
I think changing this wouldnt cause any harm, but could potentially help some black sheep to cool down over an extended period (X months to a year) and redeem themselves. And if they dont redeem themselves they can always be permed then.

I'm assuming the mod team are taking into consideration if the spoiler was by mistake or intentional. Even two members got their ban reduced based on that from a perm to a month.

I wish no one get banned but at the same time the rule of law must be upheld.

It’s a minefield out there and I agree with JareBear: Remastered JareBear: Remastered about DanielsM. Other than his annoying theatrics in Gamepass threads, he seemed like an ok member who contributed, until he started to spoil the game. Luckily I didn’t get spoiled to me but motherfuckers deserve the permanent ban if intentionally spoiling shit, after a warning.

Personally I think he got mad at the mods for removing him from yet another Gamepass thread and decided to suicide.

Think a lot of long game subtle troll accounts are going to get wiped in the next week or so. Like children, they just won't be able to resist. Don't even know why it needs saying, my only ever ban on GAF was for talking about the GoT books in the series thread, which was more speculation as I'd only read the first at that point. Thatw as tagged as spoilery......

It's always been a rule. Plus it's like common sense why would I go into a random thread, or loosely associated thread and casually mention leaks. It's definitely trolling and perm bans are warranted. Looks like there was a bit of wiggle room for Birdo and Son as the warnign was in a thread and not a sticky - but again, it's common sense they should know. At least they can see they have had that taken into account on their bans. All we can do is report them quickly.

Every time i come back , first thing i do is check the ban page. Pretty sad how low the nerds will stoop.

Daniels had about 3 bans back to back from dec to feb. Idk how he got so many chances. These pricks will just make alts and keep spoiling the game for as many people as they can.
