PS5's SSD is "far ahead" of those found in high-end PCs, according to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney

Games are not taking advantage from SSDs to be fair that is the reason.
With the new consoles having SSDs that will change.

PC have better SSD performance today than Xbox and soon it will have than PS5.
The 7GB/s PCI-E SSDs are suppose to bring the same performance than PS5 5.5GB/s SDD... it is even an option for replacement on PS5.
Game can be build to take full advantage from SDD, but you still need hardware to decompress data in real time and that's why both Sony and MS build hardware for it. Without hardware decompression chip it takes entire zen 2 CPU to decompress data and feed PS5 SDD (Cerny has even mentioned it). Without hardware decompression chip even 10 GB/s SDD will load games equally "fast" as the slowest SDD. Hardware decompression is one of the reasons why Sweeney from Epic say SDDs on PC are no match for PS5 SDD tech.

Killzone does not need 16x AA. Matter of fact majority of console games this generation have excellent AA.

You are simply just oblivious and ignorant that's why all you can say is 16x AA. I bet you can't even name 5 types of AA without looking it up. Let me give you another fun fact the original Elemental Demo had SVOGI which was subsequently removed and replaced with a more simpler Lightmass based GI but Tomorrow Children on PS4 uses Cascaded Voxel Cone Tracing for Global Illumination which is much better and more expensive.
"Matter of fact majority of console games this generation have excellent AA."
provides screenshot of game absolutely smothered in aliasing (which definitely becomes even more apparent in motion)

It's harder to see aliased images in low resolution, so I can't even imagine how bad this image is in full rez. And this guy thought he was gonna school me on techniques, he doesn't even understand. Smh

Console OS RAM capacityis what, less than a few GB?
Troll account spotted...
What? lol im talking about the SSD storage size and that the PS5 OS need 200GB in size on the SSD Storage not the RAM lol that different before calling me a troll you need to educated yourself on how Computer parts work lol otherwise you come off as an uneducated buffoon.

I am sorry, but this happens every single generation. Console claim massive technological leap out stripping even the most extreme gaming PC, developers pitch in to state how amazing it is. Launch day happens and to everyone suprise this massive technological advantage never materialises.

The most exciting thing right now for PC is the fact consoles have Ray tracing capabilities which mean more games will be developed with that technology in mind. I will believe these SSD speeds when someone actually gets one working in a real world scenario otherwise it's the same technological advantage the PS3 Cell processor was supposed to be.

Serious question, where is Tripolygon Tripolygon at, and why isn't he here to school us about why killzone doesn't need AA, but obviously needs AA. No point in trying to edit your post or hide from all of us that called you out on your b.s.

I can't figure out which is worse, the drive by trolls, or the ones who stick by their complete b.s. post. Several of them have been trying to put a spin on things, yet absolutely failed. And it shows.

For instance, this guy.

Well since Series X is not able to do it, that must be super disappointing for you...

Still thinks the engine isn't on other hardware, yet even the devs said so. Smfh.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Why do people keep bringing up Ray tracing not being used in the demo?
It's like they didn't watch the video or something

If you think Series X cant do that then you go right ahead. Xbox One X could run that demo.
No, it was confirmed that the breakthrough in SSD tech allowed the assets to stream that fast, they would have to tone it all down for XBox series X.....

'Although this doesn’t mean that a PC which still runs with a hard drive will be left out in the cold, though – it just won’t be able to render UE5 titles with these spectacular details, and visual quality will simply be dropped down appropriately to marry with the performance level of the storage medium. ' same with series x....

Who said that ?

Epic or Techradar ?

Cmon men, Epic said this demo run on 2070S, stop bullshit god damnit.

Can you prove it his test has nothing to do with decompression speed?

When a game only adresses 0,2Gbps and every SSD under the sun is faster then that. U won't see a difference in performance.

That's exactly what happens on PC. HDD's do bottleneck in a lot of ways SSD's do not.

It has nothing to do with decompression, as even the most demanding game right now star citizen does not use more then 0,2Gbps from what i noticed in the short benchmark i ran on it.

It’s not just the SSD as a lot of people think. Some of the real innovations that are being talked about here and will differentiate ps5 from pc is the whole I/O architecture and Sony’s bespoke controllers and software all working together in a way that hasn’t been done before. Truly next gen, not just a ‘fast ssd’

Kind of shocked that people are not understanding this. There is a reason why an ultra fast NVME M.2 Gen 4 drive doesn't perform any better than a SATA3 SSD drive on the PC (for gaming related task).

Here is the actual article. Where did they say this?

No, it was confirmed that the breakthrough in SSD tech allowed the assets to stream that fast, they would have to tone it all down for XBox series X.....

"Sony's storage system is absolutely world class," Sweeney says. "Not only the best-in-class on console, but also the best on any platform. Better than high-end PCs. I think it's going to enable the types of immersion that we could only have dreamed of in the past. The world of loading screens is over. The days of pop-in, geometry pop-in as you're going through game environments, are ended."

Nick Warden, vice president of engineering at Epic, also touched on the capabilities of PS5 and what it means for in-game visuals. "There are tens of billions of triangles in that scene," he says, referring to a room of statues in the aforementioned Unreal Engine 5 demo, "and we simply couldn't have them all in memory at once. So what we ended up needing to do is streaming in triangles as the camera is moving throughout the environment. The IO capabilities of PlayStation 5 are one of the key hardware features that enable us to achieve that level of realism."

There you go!

Nope, that is not saying that it would have to be toned down to run on Series X. :messenger_beaming:

I'm surprised that YOU don't understand this. With a last gen ssd and a 2070, the engine runs just fine, pretty good, to be specific. ESPECIALLY after it's been posted so many times by now.

That means many PC gamers can jump into next gen, without needing to spend a single penny.

Not sure why you are so stuck on trying to spread FUD like someone who doesn't have a clue.

Apparently the SSD and IO stack isn't fast enough to produce the same level of detail with as many streaming triangles. Not that the GPU couldn't handle it if it did have an equivalent storage setup. It surely could.

He's comparing it specifically to a PC that still runs with a HARD DRIVE.

You're just being obtuse at this stage...

"The IO capabilities of PlayStation 5 are one of the key hardware features that enable us to achieve that level of realism."

The IO capabilities of PS5 are unique to it, more than twice as fast as Series X.... if it was a gpu thing, Xbox would have been better..like RTX.

I'm curious how did you measure that? Hint: not that it's 0.2Gbps but that SC is capped at that.

Killzone doesn't need AA, yet shows the same, extremely aliased image again, as if this is supposed to look better the 3rd time you past it. Lmfao!

Because you can't prove anything, you resort to trying to quiz me. That's deflection if you ask me. I made a statement, you quoted me. It's up to you to disprove me, not for me to explain different techniques that NOTHING to do with your images. Fucking lol.
Apparently you don't know how to read either I said killzone does not need 16x AA. It uses a variation of FXAA which sample pixels rather than geometry when smoothing the edges.
HOLY JAGGIES BATMAN.
You should get your eyes checked if that is HOLY JAGGIES BATMAN. AA is excellent this generation. These are my most recent screenshots.

Some killzone screens from quick search on the internet as i do not own that game anymore.

The Velocity Architecture on the XSX, also eliminates CPU bottlenecks for streaming data, which Sweeney highlights in his tweets as the main problem on the PC.

For all we know XSX performance is "good enough" for a comparable visual quality level.

Velocity is to decompress data....

You don't want to compress film grade assets or they turn to shit.....
The problem with Series X SSD is that it doesn't have a 12 channel controller and the achitecture is closer to PC than how PS5 is organized around the SSD, that results in nearly instantaneous full saturation of the 5.5gb compared to the low saturation SX will get of an already less than half speed SSD.

That is why this will have to be toned way down on SX.

This seems like a Classic case of American Muscle vs Japanese Imports.

So ones all mouth and no trousers, the other is fine tuned and performs better in almost every situation on the road?

Good luck with that statement

Unreal Engine 5 tech demo uses 'film-quality' assets, runs on today's hardware

Do you believe that Series X will achieve the same results at less than half the speed? Without considering I/O optimizations

If they did the demo for Series X they would be saying the same thing. " It would not be possible with out the breakthroughs that Microsoft has made. " They would say the same thing about PC too.

As for the results I believe it would be 4K / 60 FPS for Series X.

You mean the the very low percentage of people that own a 2070? Even lower with the 2080 TI?

You don't understand basic system architect, yet you want to argue against what developers have stated regarding the maze that data has to be sent through to get from point A to B on a PC? You want to argue against why tech companies are placing engineering time to reduce this on the PC?

Also, please explain why a PCIe Gen4 NVME M.2 drive doesn't perform any better than a SATA3 SSD drive in gaming related task on a PC. :messenger_face_screaming:

Not gonna lie, but you definitely need glasses bro. Don't think you could school anyone, more or less yourself, with vision that bad. The control shot looks so washed out too. If you had to post screenshots to save someone's life, you might as well be the murderer. You are not proving a point at all right now, even with low resolution images. I'm disgusted!
