Best Assassin's Creed game?

Best Assassin's Creed game?

With the hype for Valhalla building (woohoo hidden blade!), I recently started going back through the series and I rediscovered my love for these games. I adore the gameplay loop of having a huge location to infiltrate, using all your tools to take out the 50 or so guards, and then performing the perfect (or not so perfect) assassination! I even found I like the tailing missions (gasp).

I've also found the historical backgrounds and fully recreated cities are awesome to experience (especially this year when I can't travel). So what are Gaf's favorite AC games?

In the past I've played AC, AC II, AC III, AC III: Liberation, and AC IV, but now I'm going through the ones I've missed. I just finished Unity (loved it), and now I'm going through Syndicate (really enjoying it so far; just finished Sequence 4).

Once I finish Syndicate, I'm hopping into Origins, Odyssey, the Ezio Collection, and then III Remastered (giving it a second chance). I'll pick up AC Rogue when it goes on sale.

So far, I'd have to say my favorites are II, IV, and Unity, but that could easily change once I finish them all.

For me, it's hard to beat the very 1st one. It was just such an amazing and vastly different game when it came out in 2007! It was completely new, wild, fresh, and beautiful. The setting and period were just perfect also.

I love how short and condensed it feels in comparison to the rest of the series. It can easily be played in 12-15hrs. 20 if you hunt for all the collectibles. I loved the smaller open areas as apposed to one massive and overly bloated area like the new games.

AC2 by about 3245 miles. An actual story , gameplay that challenged you (to a point), and one of the best music ever. Give me that satisfying one hit kill gameplay over this modern grindy floaty mess any day. You can't be the witcher if you don't understand what made it good. Why not be the best version of yourself instead?

While it hasn't aged that well, I'd still go with 2.
The setting is nice, Ezio is still the best main character and it was before the modern day plot went to hell and the assassins creed lore became a burden on the franchise so it had that mix of history and sci fi that was really engaging at first.

After that it's probably black flag, it's a really fun pirate game but much Like Odyssey (which I also liked) it would have been better as a standalone game instead of part of the AC franchise.

2 is still the best.

I was hesitant to try the new style of Origins, but finally got a chance to play it last month. Pure filler garbage. Not even 2 hours in and I had no interest to continue playing. The best part was me killing the first "boss" and you see his weapon drop, and instead I get that crappy random mace instead for loot.

So unless Valhalla changes thing drastically, I think I'm done with the series.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I feel Unity is criminally underrated. Its one of the purest AC games I've ever played. I understand it had a really rocky launch, but playing it in 2020 is great. Paris is awesome with dense crowds and big interiors, the parkour is fun, and the assassination focused missions are incredible. People should really give it a second chance.

I am a weirdo who absolutely loved AC3. I think it’s a great game, the setting is great, the way they integrate the key moments of the Revolution is great, the homestead, the forest, the ship was fun (they expanded it a lot for 4 obviously). I always thought that game got a bad rap. Looked incredible on PC at the time too.

2 hands down. Improved upon first game in every way. The rest were some okay some bad. I liked origins because of the setting but dull open-world gameplay, boring quests and overall monotony doesn't make it #1 for me.

I've only ever finished the original & Black Flag, oh and Liberation on the Vita too. All other releases I've started and then dropped usually after a few hours or so as they just never kept me interested. Haven't even bothered with Origins or Odyssey and will likely skip Valhalla too. It's a shame it has never really clicked with me.

Actually playing Origins right now. I place it above Syndicate (the worst) and Liberation. Maybe above AC1 or AC3.

If we're talking actual Assassin's Creed lore, then the Ezio Trilogy is the best, if we're talking best explore and gameplay, then Black Flag wins out.

I'm still in the middle of playing it (48 hours alone this weekend I feel like lol), but Odyssey is it. It takes what made Origins good and improves it ten fold. The story has character and charm. If I had to list my top 3:

1) Odyssey
2) Origins
3) ACII

I didn't get to play Black Flag yet. But, I'm not sure I really want now as if I went back to play it, I would hate the control scheme. I have having to hold the R button to run. It's insane that I used to like that system of movement. Origins / Odyssey's improvements have spoiled me hard. I'll give it a go some day, I'm sure, but not right now.

Odyssey is almost perfect.

Hot take: Go back and remake the entire series in AnvilNext 2.0 and flesh out the worlds even more like they did with Origins / Odyssey.

This. Unity is also the only title to have a co-op mode. Freeroaming with friends was mad fun.

Hope they return to offering co-op modes in future AC titles seeing as all of their other franchises have prominent co-op modes.

Assassin's Creed 2. Most likeable protagonist by a mile, fun to play, cool locations (especially Venice and Tuscany) and wonderful score by Jesper Kyd. Oh and it was released before the modern day storyline got super annoying.

Black Flag is the best story and setting wise (aesthetically which is IMO; I'd say Origins is objectively better here which I explain below). It also had fantastic dialogue (legit blown away by whoever wrote it) and the best sailing gameplay in the series.

Origins is the best gameplay wise. It's also really the best setting wise. I don't mean by a subjective "I like Egypt better than Greece!" metric either. Locations seemed more unique and better realized in Origins. The devs put more effort into hand crafting and distinguishing locations so exploration was actually really fun. There was way less copy-pasting in this game than Odyssey and the older games.

I cant wait for Valhalla. It's by the team who made both Black Flag and Origins. These guys make the highest quality AC games, and I think Valhalla will be their best.

Assassin's Creed 2 may have made the series, but Brotherhood perfected the formula. Love that game.

Black Flag is a close second with the pirate gameplay and fantastic story.

AC II because it did all AC I did but better. At that time we didn't know as much Assassin's Creed as today and therefore it was a really fresh experience.
Didn't manage to have that much fun in a later Assassin's Creed entry and gave up after Unity.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I like the Ezio trilogy
Brotherhood was probably the best out the three.
And surprisingly Unity, I'd buy a Remaster if there was one.
And Origins, love the setting but it hot too long in the tooth for it's own good.
Assassin's Creed III is probably my favourite even though it seems to be the most hated
The setting, the villians and the music and a simple story of revenge.
Not sure why ACBlackflag gets it's praises, probably the most forgettable game in the series and yes the map was big but it was all sea, and it the only game I completed and thought "is that it"
More like DLC to ACIII then a full AC game.
Still not sure what happened in that game, it ended where I think it should have had a title reveal.

Unity is the secret best old school Creed game going back to its “roots”

Really glad I played through it last Summer after it had more than enough time to get patched up proper. It’s simply a blast.

And it’s fucking GORGEOUS.

Favs: AC1>Unity>Syndicate>2>3>Black Flag

Currently running through Brotherhood now for the first time and I’m liking it.

I don’t count Origins or Odyssey since they might as well be new IPs. Syndicate was barely a traditional Creed game as well but by god it was awesome.

Woohoo Team Unity! It really is DAMN gorgeous. I couldn't believe it when I was playing. Scenes when light hits Elise's hair just so made me pause. I also really love the blue hood of Arno. It was a bit different, but really fit the setting well.

It also had some of the best infiltrations in the series: Notre Dame Cathedral, Hotel de Ville, la Halles aux Bles, all the mansions, the Royal Palace for the letters, the Temple, etc. There's so many places you have to sneak into and assassinate Templars. It's perfection. It feels so replayable.

I'm playing Syndicate right now and I love the twin protagonists. One is like Peaky Blinders and one is pure AC. I just finished the Asylum mission and OMG, it was so awesome. I did the bonus assassination opportunity to take out the target. It was awesome planning it out and making my way through. And the rope gun is a game changer for a big city like London.

My opinion is probably unpopular, but I really enjoy the ARPG focus of the last couple games. I prefer Origins and Odyssey but AC2 was also awesome. Black Flag was a lot of fun too

Those are my 3 favorites too. It was hard to choose between ACII and Odyssey, I ended up voting AC: O because I'm a WRPG junkie, but I do miss Ezio Auditore Di Firenze, one of the greatest video game characters ever.

I don’t know if I can pick a favorite, I loved the Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, Origins, and Odyssey best. I think the gameplay in Origins and Odyssey were by far the best, but the stories in the Ezio trilogy was the best.

Ezio is one of the greatest characters ever in gaming IMO. The evolution of his character from a naive youngster to a mature leader was cool to play as.

Black Flag was so much fun to explore, I loved the setting, and I played it right after I finished watching Black Sails the tv series.

I still have Syndicate and Unity to play, I played all the rest.

I thought 3 was the worst of what I played, I just didn’t like it or the setting.

1st one was my first game when I bought the PS3, it was something else and had such novel concepts. It played junky as fuck sometimes, and the hidden blade was op after you mastered it (I loved the one-hit kills, that's why I am excited about Ghost of Tsushima).

But I think the most memorable Assassin's Creed is the AC 2. It improved everything that the first one built, and Ezio was such a good main character, so much that he had a trilogy of games around his journey as The Assassin. I guess this is where the series shone the most and where it should have capitalized. It's a shame that AC 3 drawn the short end of the stick and Ubisoft decided that 3 wasn't enough and killed Desmond so they could milk the cow until it runs dry. But Black Flag was an excellent game mechanically and gameplay-wise, now for the story... not so much.

I have bought Unity when it released but I couldn't bear to play it. Such a buggy mess. Beautiful game and the revamped parkour is the high point of that title for me. After these, I never dared to touch any more AC games. The franchise has lost its sense of self a long time ago.

Odyssey > Origins > Syndicate > Brotherhood > II

I actually enjoy the RPG elements of the latest games a lot more than the simpler progression of the older games.

I've still yet to play Black Flag, Unity and Liberation.

Assassin's Creed is the one with the most charm.
Assassin's Creed Revelation has the most satisfying ending.
But it's Assassin's Creed 2 the one who has the best one in the series, it expanded in all directions to absolute perfection.

Black Flag was all "arrrr" without assassins, and not loving pirates to begin with, I've hated it. Abandoned the series because of that one.

Origins for me.

Ever since the series came to be and it showed that they're gonna switch the eras constantly I wanted them to do Egypt - and Origins was everything I ever hoped for. And even more. In no other game I was just running around and looking at shit like in this one.

I always felt the focus on ship combat in Black Flag came at the detriment to the on foot combat which really didn't see any improvement over 3 even though it desperately needed it. Brotherhood has been my favorite for a long time, though I haven't played Odyssey despite having picked it up on the cheap ages ago. Looking forward to Valhalla though.
