Just speculation but It would be an interesting move if Sony merged with Sega and offset the price of a cheaper console by releasing tons of games across PS4/5 and PC. Could pay off for them big long term as well. Microsoft could do the same too obviously.

This is just them guessing.

Don't forget they had layoffs on these teams in the EU, they are merging the EU and the US marketing/PR and have been for a year.

All of this is a guess from everyone. Even these industry dudes have been wrong many times. I take all this from a distance and just post what might be relevant.

Don't worry I've got you covered

We've had a weird web cache find questioning BC followed by a Xbox Tweet proudly showing off their BC efforts and now a DF article that is also muddying the BC waters all in the last 24 hours.

We're all desperate for Sony to unleash their info, but this is getting ridiculous!!

Forward compatible... Nothing to do with BC.
But let them concern troll for BC, at least the GPU gets a break and can be RDNA2 for a few days....

Not true though.

With xbox series x you just put your old games in and they all work (nkt including 360 and OG obviously)

This makes it more sound like ps4 games won't automatically work on ps5 console and they're going to have to put effort into making the games work maybe in waves or something like xbox did with the 360 stuff.

All Xbox propaganda fud and sensationalist, click clouting websites. Why ppl take tht into account after so many years of seeing lies or misinformation is beyond me. Tht camp gets no benefit of the doubt or their execs because thy haven't earned it and have been caught in lies many many times. Cerny said there is bc, there is bc for thousands of ps4 games and that's been said. If Sony says it, its a fact, not conjecture anymore.

The spinning ppl do to muddy tht is irrelevant and annoying. You think ppl would have learned by now.

Sony on BC

"A quick update on backward compatibility – With all of the amazing games in PS4’s catalog, we’ve devoted significant efforts to enable our fans to play their favorites on PS5. We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.

We’re expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions. We’re currently evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers."

It's crazy how similar the messaging from Sony and MS is on BC side of things and yet the perception is completely opposite, mainly put due to MS devoting a lot of focus on enhanced BC. It has muddied any discussion regarding BC as people are conflating the two when they are not the same. Cerny and his team stuck with 36CUs for a reason, once they find a logic timing to mimic the PS4/Pro then it would mean all PS4 games will at the very least run on PS5. It's taking the advantage of PS5 capabilities, where they seem to having trouble as Cerny pointed out that some games simply can't mesh with the new frequencies and that would need to patched in by the original software developer. Hence the bit about title-by-title evaluation, it's in reference to boosted frequences and not just basic BC. As PS5 has that covered with its legacy mode, Cerny put it himself on native BC, "once it's in, it's in".

Funny thing is, that's how it has worked on PS4 and PS4 Pro. Some titles can take advantage of boost mode on Pro, for those who can't they run as they would on PS4. At least, until devs prepare a proper Pro patch.

That's beyond speculation. It sounds like fan fiction.

What? No, this is the same wording they utilized before pro and Xbox X come out: every game from that point going, would have to be forward compatible to the mid gen models: have a pro and X version...

older games had to be patched to take advantage of their hardware.
