Well, I really wanted each to cut out a more specific vision for themselves... I don't think it serves as many people to have the two overlapping too much.
I think the I/O stuff in PS5 is outstanding and an example of consoles pushing limits past PC in ways they haven't done for a few generations for sure. That's a good thing. We'll see what actual effect that has, or if any divergence occurs... I doubt there will be much, particularly in multi-platform applications.

Sony's gonna do stuff that nobody else is doing; but that has remained kinda true even with hardware not matching PC.

But beyond that; using a video about 4k/60 on $1000 graphics cards is just an odd way to claim the PC will need to "catch up."

Now that things have quieted down a bit, I wanted to address a comment I saw a few times yesterday regarding the Xbox Series S, or lockhart, holding back this gen.

We need to be careful with those assertions as i'd say it's likely the console is basically a cheap version for the XBSX, meaning things should scale down on a graphical level, but the IO, SSD architecture and whatever else can affect game design, will be set according to new gen standards. This means that apart from graphical fidelity and maybe some FPS, we should not expect it to hold back this gen.

The lowest common denominator for a while will be the PC due to the lack of comparable SSD's

I just don't see a way for Microsoft to price this thing as low as it would need to be to be a REAL game changer, if all they're going to do is gimp the GPU. Doesn't make a lot of sense. Now a streaming game only box or something like that? Maybe. But that would mean throwing out the optical and SSD drives. Now THAT could be a strategy, IMHO and maybe let them bundle with gamepass and price the thing at $199 or so. I just don't see it. Again, just my opinion, but I think MS was exploring that as a possibility, didn't see it working very well and either canned the project or are holding it in their back pocket in case the market changes or they end up in a position where they have to try SOMETHING to help boost numbers. We will see though.

That is probably a new FRB that has been discovered, they follow certain time cycles, but it's really nothing new, I think the first one was discovered around 2007. FRBs are still unexplained, sure, but it's not an isolated incident, nor it is new.

Bingo. Just another 'magnetar' that has a patter of Fast Radio Burst but then goes silent for days. Probably being occluded by a black hole during that time or something. SETI has already evaluated FRB's and made statements about the unlikelihood of FRB's being some sort of communication. The signals originate from many sources throughout the galaxy but so far have all be explained as magnetars (magnetic neutron star). This article title is just click-bait.

What was this tweet about? It's as unavailable to me.
Yeah he deleted it because alot of incels attacked him for saying this...

So I am waking up, getting caught up on he news, so sorry if already posted. Saw Gamingbolt posted this

Conclusion

It would be easy to make simple black-and-white conclusions about SSDs and their impact on ninth-gen gaming. “The PlayStation 5’s SSD is faster” and “The Xbox Series X’s GPU is faster” are two sides of the same coin. In actuality we don’t know whether or even how developers in the coming generation will leverage SSD storage. Will it result in some improvements? Definitely, and loading screens will be at the top of the list there. But will it cause a graphics disparity between the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X? It might but just don’t know right now.

Everything I've seen of the game has disappointed me.

I wanted them to a more.. "game" route, not "set-piece and actions sequence" route.

Not a graphics whore though... also, why are we discussing it here?
I'm not gonna bother arguing against your opinion. plus, this is not the right place of doing that, and I'm not discussing anything, the guy above wanted to see the tweet because it got deleted.

Good afternoon,

I've been following the thread for weeks now, and I've learned a lot from you about hardware.

Although I have an account since 4 years ago (called Nowcry) I am not able to post with it (I don't know why) and I created this new one 1 day ago for three reasons:

- The first reason is to thank you all for writing about hardware so that everybody can learn and also to make normal references to objective articles about hardware, patents etc..

- The second reason is to be able to talk with you about what you have learned and to be able to continue learning.

- The third reason is to get on that PS5 HYPE TRAIN. Plase TGO TGO Please add me.

Thank you very much to all of you.

PS: I hope the translator is working well.

What makes you think consoles will be good for 4k/60 this gen if PC's cant right now with beefier GPUs and CPUS?
They will not. I can barely play at 4k with an OC 2080 liquid cooled, good is till 32" the difference beetween 1440p and 4k is barely visible, gap is further reduced by using checkboard renderind or the magic DLSS 2.0 Nvidia uses

Well, they've announced some things at 4k already. We will see a good example of how much more efficient dedicated hardware can be over the PC paradigm. Will be interesting to see how that all shakes out!

But there isn't actually consensus on FRBs being caused only by magnetars, right? Even if some FRBs might be explained that way. Because magnetars spin quite fast and some FRB events recorded have quite elongated patterns in time. Then again, I suppose if a magnetar is dense enough, and maybe some celestial body is making a gravitational pull of it, it would potentially spin slower than the average of its peers, so, it might make sense.

I saw that tweet. Some 14 year olds bashing on him regarding the jump mechanic.

So I wonder, is that mute comment option not available to everyone? Druckmann uses it now. It's probably for the best for controversial comments.

Better question: Is a free one?

Well, I should say that this is the THEORY. You're right in that there are some exceptions like the one noted here as an example, that there is no CONCRETE explanation for. There's a number of these as you note that have variations that cannot be 100% explained right now.

There was one that said something like "did you enjoy the oral cumshot tweet?". Fucking weirdos lol.

Yeah I'm a 1440p gamer myself for now.

Will certainly jump to 4k in a year or 2 though. The 30x0 series nVidia cards will probably make that a no brainer.

I have zero interest the game, I rather watch paint dry than play TLOU2, but I can admire the tech in the game and wonder what they can do with 10tf when they manage this with 2-4tf.

Oh yeah for sure; it's insane either way. Not discounting their talent.

Just prefer a different style of game. I think TLOU would have been a great vehicle for a more open-world sandboxy style game but from the previews I've seen it seems like they are going more for the Uncharted "set piece action sequence" deal.

I'll gladly be wrong though; buying the game either way. More excited for Ghosts of Tsushima though personally.

edit: I will say I was excited for them to say there's a ton to explore and likely will take multiple play throughs to find everything.. that piqued my interest.

Well I've just read an article about which would be the best monitor to take the full advantage of the next gen. The best Monitor is a 27" with 4k resolution and 144Hz for "only" 2000$. Honestly ridicolous. You but cheap HW as consoles are and then match a top class superexpensive Monitor. It doesn't make sense at all. The market is still not ready either performancewise and pricewise for 4k resolution, IMHO

How many games do you guys think we'll see on the Thursday event, sine the show is just over an hour I'm wondering how many games we will actually see and it will also depend on interviews they do with developers as well, Jim Ryan did say that there will be much more events coming up to show case the games even after Thursday's event.

This would be a great show, if it is what we get

I wanna see The Show running on PS5, wanna see what they can do with the crowds and ballparks

The best part about this list... Nothing here is wishful thinking.

Before anyone gets overly hyped, this is not the official list of titles that will be at this event. However, every game listed here has a high chance of being there, some higher than other but not a single game on this list is unlikely or ridiculous.

That list is wishful thinking.

I didn't even realise he was from DF. Was he driven out or was he too thin skinned to take criticism?
