This was, in my opinion, the best traditional format major games showcase in some time:

Open up with some heavy hitters, then gear down into AA and Indies, rev back up to AAA and end with a banger.

Not every press conference can be Sony E3 2016 (honestly don't think we'll ever see something like that again). But for making a conference that appealed to a wide audience and showed the variety of experiences available on PS5, this was top notch. Only game that was flatout bad to me was the Bugsnax game (seriously what the fuck was that?). The fact that a lot of those games have some kind of exclusivity is impressive too. Last thought is I think the impact that Shuhei Yoshida has had by starting up his P.S. Indies division was on full display. I don't usually play a lot of Indies but my goodness some of those games jumped right to the top of my wishlist.

Sorry for the long post, looking forward to Microsoft's response next month.

Agree with a lot of this. Loved the format, the variety and the weirdness to the games on show. Could have done with a little more gameplay segments but that's somewhat related to how the reveal has come about and when it was originally planned. Teams don't always have the time to create another reel because the original show has been delayed a few months.

You can add Volcano High to the bad list surely? :messenger_winking:

Indies on display was good and representative of Sony having rekindled it's focus on them with Shu. They were more or less absent from recent big PS shows. The quality of the indie titles speaks volumes about the talent out there and how quickly they can get up to speed on PS5 too.

One thing I don't agree with is the limited time exclusivity deals. I get why they can be advantageous for both platform holder and developer, I just don't like them unless they are specifically making something possible which wouldn't have happened otherwise.

I agree with DF (and many people here) that streaming the reveal in 1080p/30fps hampered our impressions. At some points we were forced to use our imagination to realize how really awesome this will look. People who think there is no difference between 1080p and 4K are probably people who still game in 27-32" TVs and haven't really seen 4K in action in 42" (and bigger) TVs.
i have a 27" UHD 3840x2160 monitor with 144hz refresh rate and would love for a sharper image.
UHD in 27" from monitor distance is ok i would enjoy 240hz or 360 more then a res bump but if there will be a 8k monitor avaiable and in a pricepoint that i can deal with, im gonna switch asap!

Agreed. I also thought that Sackboy Adventures looked horrible. LittleBigPlanet is SO last year and tbh, I don't see the appeal anymore. It was cool back in the PS3 years, but it's all but irrelevant now, especially with Dreams being the next big thing in content creation.

And if Sackboy Adventures isn't even that ... then ... what is it? A drooling-with-its-tongue-out stitched puppet running and jumping around? Meh to the ninth.

You know when the heat sink patent came up again back in April someone on era did a mock-up and I asked whether the secret sauce was being passive.

Having seen PS5 now I would probably still expect one fan, though. Still, Mark Cerny was so open about Pro being bad and confident we would be happy with the PS5 solution......What if!?

I’m still thinking one large low RPM fan that moves a lot of air out and stays at a consistent RPM and doesn’t throttle to the extreme up or down. Cerny specifically talked about that “annoyance” in current setups not only for gamers, but devs alike in game design with pushing thermals, that their approach is a shift from how it’s currently done with clocks/wattage.

I wish the remote had some sort of heaphone-jack, would be pretty great.

Also did we saw the back of the controller? I mean if they didn't talk about it yet that means there are no back buttons. Maybe this means we could play with a ps4 controller

This means shit to me. Quieter than a fucking vacuum cleaner doesn't make me feel any less worried. 'Whisper quiet' would be perfect. 'a lot less loud' would be quite as good.

But a lot of effort to make it 'less loud'? That ... doesn't really gel with me, chief.

EDIT: PlayStation Lifestyle has a similar article, but their wording is different.

"Speaking separately to Guardian, Sony’s Simon Rutter assured fans that the company put “a great deal of effort” into ensuring that the PS5 won’t be noisy, confirming previous reports that Sony placed special emphasis on the console’s cooling system. "

I had a 28" 4K monitor by Asus (Link); it was too small to appreciate 4K. Everything was super sharp, but details were so small that I couldn't really perceive any additional detail relative to 1080p. Also, text and desktop icons were so tiny that I had to scale everything up by 150%, which defeated the purpose of the extra screen space that 4K provides relative to 1080p. So, once I got myself a 43" 4K TV (Link), I sold the monitor. I now use the 4K TV as my monitor and use a TCL 55R617 (Link) as my TV.

Lol I forgot that the Volcano High game even existed. Yeah I don't any interest in that either.

About exclusivity deals, I tend to agree with you. I don't have any problem when it's for smaller games that help with funding, but there's no reason Bethesda needs to do it. That said, I understand the business reasons behind it and don't expect it to stop anytime soon.

You keep saying Xbox showing games on 2080ti and trying to play it off as series x. Either show a source or knock off the lies please. And it you refer to hellblade 2 footage then you are definitely lying. They did not say it was running on Xbox hardware.

Finished watching the DF direct and they seemed very positive about the content shown. Richard made a good point about how they are using RT at Native 4K in first gen games given how recent the tech is. Common complaint stemmed regarding stream quality and presentation (too jam packed, didn't allow for games to breathe due to short trailers with little gameplay) which I agree with.

Only surprise was the complaining regarding Digital edition, just because it reduces the BoM by $20 doesn't mean, the retail price from PS5 would be only down by $20 too. That thing is designed to help them absorb heavy losses and make it an appealing buy over Lockhart. John also made a good point about them recovering those losses due to digital buys through their store.

Amusing to see 'Dictator' sum it up as a "pretty okay showcase" though, made me laugh.
pretty sure the bluray drive cost both MS and Sony $30 each. i expect UHD drives to cost the same in 2020. $30 plus they get a cut of every single game sold on the console like john said.

i 100% agreed with richard about having way too many games, and not exactly showing us the FUTURE of how games would play. so i can understand their tepid response to the conference. at least, dictator admitted he was wrong about consoles games not being able to run RT reflections and high resolutions. no mention of his underplaying of ssd after seeing the ratchet demo though. that demo would take twice as long on the xbox series x during transitions and have 5 second cuts instead of 2-2.5 second transitions is a big deal in a game like this. but it was good to see him recognize the ps5's RT potential, maybe next time he will give the ssd its due credit.

In the absence of information, they are assuming the worst. For example, Bluepoint already confirmed Demon's Souls will have 30fps and 60fps modes.
30 and 60 ? :p Can you provide link ? Because i saw only statment about "graphic" and "FPS" mode. It didnt mention 30/60 so it can be 60/120 :D ( everybody can dream)

You're right, they didn't specify. My own pessimistic estimation is 30fps with RT, 60fps without.

Is Vampire Bloodlines 2 xbox exclusive?

no

One of my most anticipated titles as well. Although it looks a bit janky in some videos

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Microsoft Windows

Here is a quote from the wiki just incase you don't believe me.

The game is planned for release in 2020 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.[42] Three different pre-order versions have been made available: Standard, Unsanctioned, and Blood Moon, which will include two story-based downloadable content packs, and the werewolf-themed expansion "Season of the Wolf". Additionally, pre-orders of the Unsanctioned version or above include in-game items referencing Bloodlines characters such as Jeanette Voerman and Damsel.[12][43] Initially scheduled for release in March 2020, the game was pushed back in late 2019 to an unspecified 2020 release date.[43]

Yeah seeing 4k and ray tracing used early on is good and a sign maybe that ps5 is easy to use.

Whether it was true 4k they seemed to think so and if they couldn't tell then theres really no need to use 4k.

If it was 4k and they can drop down res a bit and scale up without noticing then do it and push that graphical envelope and effects as far as itll go.

Ok but I saw some people saying that PS5 doesn't run the majority of games in 4K using DF. But did us already confirm 4K in Horizon ?

Why would they? All of them were running on PS5, and it's a PS5 event. Did xbox mention anything though? I find Sony being pretty honest and professional here, only showing games running on PS5, not PC with 2080Ti and put a message down that console in development to give a misleading idea that it's running on an Xbox dev kit!

hhhh.jpg

Well, Does it really matter though and is it really verifiable?
As long as the games look like or even better than on the Xbox event, it does not matter at all.
I would still be happier if they actually gave as some dates. So many games without even a year. This is much more important than knowing if it Ran on a OS5 or not, since things can change anyway.
some people believe that horizon 2 will be a launch title lol

Yes, lying like Xbox is very misleading and very important to know if things are running on the real console. Glad Sony made it loud and clear and scrubbed out all games not running on PS5. All footage taken from the show, except GTA5, are only representative of PS5, other platforms may not reach that.

That doesn't necessarily mean that, but it's possible there aren't any. They did not talk about any UI features or the like. They will reveal those at the next event / teardown I imagine.
