You are right. It was also explained by one of the people in the know, I don't remember if it was Cherno or that engineer dude. I suppose they will be able to shrink patches even more by using diffs. Those are files which consist only the changes that need to be made to previous installs, on the binary level. Don't waste your time listening to people like Linus. They are useless "celebrities" who know shit.

Diffs aren't limited to text files. That's just how the command line tool in *nix systems works. You can diff textures if needed. Of course it needs to be done by devs but essentially any file can undergo such a process. I don't know if it's viable for all data. I've seen diffs for executables, for example.

That's cool to know that even binaries are patchable, but we still need to apply these patches. No way we gonna just store them on console alongside with original files.

You can apply them with the max speed of I/O. Which means you can patch even the biggest game in less than a minute. I really hope it's how it's going to work. Most of patches I get download faster than install on PS4.

Applying a binary diff (patch) is very slow with HDDs because you need to seek for the file, and with an offset. On top of that, the file needs to be reconstructed.
Seek times are negligible in SSDs.

And that's almost how i described it too. Just because of 100x I/O speed increase installs will take mere seconds. But they will be still present.

Dealing with a polygon budget per frame instead of LOD's. Something never seen in a gaming device ever, an insane generational leap.
Man, that water detail in Horizon 2 is just straight bonkers......Guerilla must have said, you criticized our water in part 1....."Your'll gonna learn today".

It's console warring, isn't it? Why do we need such content here? I know it's a parody, but it depicts Xbox users as absolute idiots, which is basically a lie. Also it adds no value to this thread besides it being a console war fuel.

If you consider it console warring, then report it. But I assure you it's not. It's as you said, parody. If you cannot take it, this is not the thread for you, just peruse through these 2000+ pages and make up your mind.

Also ignore function works wonders if you still cannot accept the ribbing.

When vertically positioned, the console is taller. It isn't "bigger", since the XSX is wider. I don't expect pea brain people to get there though.

Its a good thing, making a slightly bigger box to make it run faster and still stay cool is not a negative IMO, its taller and slimmer and likely bigger volume than XSX and designed carefully to get every little extra performance from the parts. Good on you Sony IMO, better than a smaller = hotter & underclocked box of past designs.

XSX is a neat package carefully squeezed in a box, I would rather XSX was a bigger box and pushing a bit more than it is...

Report: PS5 And Xbox Series X Won’t Release In China This Year

Sony and Microsoft announced a worldwide launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X for later this year but it seems China might not be a part of the release plans. According to a report from Niko Partners, the Chinese launch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X isn’t expected until 2021.

Guess it's not worldwide after all. Little ironic?

Unless the shots released are distorted by viewing angle, it looks like PS5 will be a bit bigger in volume. Taller and deeper, but narrower.

It might have more volume, we will see. It will depend on whether it's the digital or the disk version too I'm guessing. I was just complaining about people who see a taller system and say "it's bigger". Or that it's huge because Sony fucked up the cooling solution.

Although consoles look better vertically and usually that's how they are displayed for promotional reasons, almost every setup I've ever seen has them laid down horizontally. I suspect that's why Sony wanted to preserve that kind of form factor.

It was a good show all things considered in the world. Well produced and clean.

We like to make fun of the 3rd party MS zoom calls (Skype was not available I guess). I do think the 1st party event will be a better production.

Sony had that cool breathing logo thing that kept distracting me. I wonder if that will be a Screensaver option. 😁

Stray is the game I'm most intrigued by, always loved the idea of controlling an animal and the different means of traversal that brings about. Some nice RT in there too...

You played Tokyo Jungle on the PS3?

Pretty sure he'll do a similar one next month in favor of MS once X Series X will announce a dozen of (console) exclusives.

Man i need GT7 in my life, it's seems they put all the shit that GT fans love the most about GT that wasn't enough present in GT sport. The main menu is so dope bring me memories of old school games, sleepless night with long endurance races.

I can't wait for the next State of play that will go deep dive in the game!!

This game and Demon's Souls alone will make me busy for 6 months at least!!! HYPE!!!
All that GT 7 needs now is full VR support for the entire game. Do that and I will pre-order asap.

This is a great example of the problem with Xbox fans. Because then cannot understand technology, they make up things and get them backwards.

More power -> higher thermals -> better cooling required -> more space needed. Since both consoles have similar baseline (RDNA2 architecture) and, most likely, use similar cooling solutions (vapor chambers), PS5 should be a more efficient device.

It's just like people claiming that 5G cooks your brain while, in fact, it's much more efficient and needs less power to transmit more data.

The problem I have got with this statement is that I own both PS4 Pro and XboneX, guess which one is smaller and also more powerful, from what we have seen so far Xbsex is more powerful than PS5, (TFlops) and also smaller? In addition, look at the PPC space and eg. Razer Blade Pro laptops (I think that there are some with over 6TFlop GPUs) - these are small form, gaming rigs. That's what I call clever engineering.

If you don't like big consoles, just don't buy it, instead of being so "concerned" about the PS5 size. I gather you're happy with Xbox so why even bother?

Yes. Topically Sony had better engineering with the AC incorporated and such. But since the XOX Microsoft seems to had asked for advice to their neighbours in the Surface department because they are killing. it.

Entertainment centers used to be two towers and a bridge over the top.

The one I have for componets is very long with no shelf breaks horizontally. I can fit 4 PS5 horizontally on mine, and most of the ones I see for sale.

I can tell this is going to be overplayed like a couple things about the PS4 that wasnt an issue for most.

It's latest in a long line of nitpicking, the size. Well, apparently, size does matter in the end.

Simple answer: X1X has vapor chamber cooling, PS4 Pro has heatpipes. It was a wrong call by Sony, I have no idea why they went with that method, maybe production costs were too high a year earlier. Someone should ask Cerny about it in an interview. He admitted it was a mistake, also during The Road to PS5.

"Gaming" laptops are terrible things which overheat a lot and last 1-2 hours on battery power. There's nothing clever about them, it's just manufacturers milking naive gamers who want flashy things.

Don't try to make me look too sensitive, it does you no credit. A parody may be good and laughable or plain dumb and insulting. A parody is not a free pass for being a jerk.
it is not aimed against me, so me 'not taking it' is not a case.
This thread is for discussion of both consoles, don't try to privatize it. by declaring "it is not for you". I've reading it for pretty long time because it was first and foremost about discussing stuff. If we repel other side by mocking them without obvious reason (like a dumb response to a dumb post), it will become an echo chamber and I find it pretty unhealthy for any future discussion.
This opinion can be boring and unpopular, but it is what it is.

They use MS Teams, not Zoom.

As far as I am concerned you can do anything you want as long as you drop the "holier than thou" attitude.

Coming in here and "observing" things then serving it to us is nothing new, you're just another one of those people who try to say the politically correct things while you're just trying hard to defend your console of choice. I guess you're new at this since you're taking this the hard way, but it's all right.

Keep fighting the good fight and don't bother to reply, you're just one of the many ignored now, I got no time for this.

Really sounds like we're back at the glory days of the 360.
In February, Microsoft released a Windows update which broke a lot of Surfaces. They can't even get it right with their own hardware, it seems. There is no fix for this problem yet (we're in June), only workarounds.

Last week they released a Windows 10 update which breaks PDF printing in many setups. But they have the most devoted, though mostly brain-dead, fanboys...

But it's off-topic, so let's stop.

And Apple released Catalina that broke my entire buildings Wifi set up. Which STILL hasn't been fixed. My entire building had to revert back to Mojave.

Its almost like software has issues and in some cases can be catastrophic because of varying hardware profiles and set ups.

At least it improved Microsoft Edge. It is a lot faster now, even when you go to YouTube.

Can we get back to discussing Xbox and PlayStation?
