It’s one thing for a company to help financially to bring to life a game that, otherwise, wouldn't be launched. That is obviously ok to be an exclusive.
But buying exclusivity (even temporary) of something that would exist in the market anyway... for me, that's a shameful practice.
But, unfortnatly, it's nothing new (all companies do that) and I can't see it going away.

While I think this is a shitty practice, I doubt it will affect me since the only big upcoming AAA 3rd parties I'm interested in so far are AC Valhalla - Shown at the MS show not Sony's and CP2077 - MS already has the marketing, if it was going to be a timed exclusive, it would be on the Xbox not the PS5.
I think it's possible Sony could get a timed exclusive for GTA6, the only way I'd have anything to do with that game is the same as it was for RDR2 - pay me to take ($100 off X1X if you bought RDR2). I hate Rockstar games and especially hate GTA.

Me too. Rocket League to me got old really fast.
I hope that in this game with multiple cars and heroes things will stay fresh longer and hopefully they will add more playable characters, cars and stages for free, like in Apex or League of Legends.

Andew house we have the best studios in the world buy ps4. Jack Ryan hmm hmm hmm timed exclusives and we have great studios to. The luckiest guy in business he was handed something he can't screw up but he tries and shows zero confidence in his people. What a waste so they can get 81% instead of 80% of the market pissing money away for nothing buy studios with it.

Not a surprise. Both sides do it. Dont like it (especially on large titles).
Most games shown on PS showcase were times exclusives. I was surprised at how many. Then again, not many looked like something I couldnt wait on.
(Lastly, i like Mystic. Sure he likes Sony, but relatively even keeled).

Isn't this tactic as old as gaming itself? It's not really surprising. It shouldn't matter the platform. If it's really about the games, you get the system that has the games you want.

I just don’t think Sony (or MS) have the money these days to do it. A genuine AAA game - something like RDR/GTA, even an AC, COD, BF or a sports game - they just make way too much money across multiplats for MS or Sony to dip for timed exclusivity.
Ok deathloop, scorn, the medium, kena and those kinds of games - I don’t think they really qualify as AAA games.
Not like back in the days of MGS4 and games of that size and renown.
I think some of those 3rd party indie type games will agree to go exclusive for a while in exchange for a bigger cut of sales revenue, free dev kits and support from the major companies. That’s worth more than a money hat in terms of experience for future releases.
To me, there’s only a very few studios who can make AAA games anyway.

Im still in the dark. Except for COD ... which games? Also, pretty sure that Kena and Co. wont be 12 month exclusives, it just makes not much sense.

The game is out on PS4 (japan). All Sony has to do is, circumvent said exclusivity barrier (NO PS5 version!), by patching the PS4 copy and accidentally add english subtitles ....

I don't think it's related to the game's budget; A, AA, AAA; but with what is expected in his sales. Any game that sold ~ 80% of copies on PS4 may be subject to this on PS5 (FF 16, Metal Gear "6").
I think it is worth it if, together with this temporary exclusivity, the game had to be made to fully take advantage of the PS5 SSD. Then when the Xbox SX version was released, it had a loading screen ... or another change to work around the xbox's IO limitations.

Third party timed exclusivity doesn’t sell consoles. If I get it on my console first, cool. If I don’t, I’ll wait. I’ve never heard of anyone on either side picking a console based on getting a certain game a year early.

Yeah there was only one game from the PS5 show that I would ever actually buy and that's Horizon FW and it's NEVER coming to Xbox. The other 1 or 2 games that interested me are 3rd party games I wouldn't buy anyway, I'd just wait for them to come to GP. Now I'll most likely just have to wait a little longer if they are the ones that are timed exclusives.

Hate timed exclusives but on the positive side, games like Godfall and Kena will go to Series X a year or less later which means I have two games to look forward to when that time comes plus a game like Kena is a perfect candidate for Game Pass. $10 for a monthly rental of Kena? Yes please.

Or alternatively, when MS informed Devs of their intention not to publish any next gen exclusives in the first year, and tried to encourage developers to consider down porting their projects to meet the current gen spec, they asked Sony if they would consider exclusivity? I know MS are not preventing Devs from having next gen only games on their system, but their not exactly encouraging the idea either. It's not all cut and dry.

You where also parroting for months on this forum that the sony had hired guys from the rpcs3 project to work on ps3 backwards compatability on the ps5, so now i know for sure that gta 6 will never be a timed exclusive.

Those are actually exclusive. MS didn't even promote it as exclusive during the reveal. The gaming media dug it up. So MS didn't pay for any timed exclusives associated with that May reveal.

Didn't see any big megaton timed exclusives at the sony even. I think Deathloop and the Tokyo game kind of whiffed and are not going to be system sellers. And then theres Kena...I guess? Still going to wait on reviews on that. Declaring it a great game based on some snippet footage seems way too early.
