I would like to see the quote of him saying this because that's the first time I've heard that. All I recall hearing is they will show games that show xbox hardware advantages. That's in general from current gen to next gen.
I thought he meant the hardware advantages over the PS5 would show? Maybe I interpreted that incorrectly

Spencer already said that they'll show games that are visually more impressive than what we saw at the Sony event.
Thats not true. And even then, i didn't see title on xbox with even half quality of animations present in god of war or tlou2. Beside Sony and Rockstar all games lack immersion due to cartoon animations. Can hellblade look better than horizon ? Yes it can, because its walking simulator with generic fights vs openworld game. I want new IP and zelda like fable. Then we can talk about buying XSX.

I’ve always been impressed by GTA animations. They dynamically lead into each other or physics based rag-dolling, and the characters have momentum, and react to where they have been hit etc.

I think God of War (intentionally for gameplay reasons) can stop any animation and instantly snap to another and your brain kind of fills in the gaps. I think I recall developers talking about it once, and it being a compromise to keep the controls responsive.

I think TLoU2 strikes the best balance I’ve seen so far between context and environment aware animations and responsive controls.

This is more down to developer resource and time spent researching than any processing power required, too.

Cerny said they are running effectively at constant power. If you don't boost the clock, and instead lower it - which lowers power transformed as work done - how do you adjust something else in the constant power paradigm shift to consume that excess power?

I am genuinely interested how the algebra of this closed system works without the clock drawing the excess power like a capillary effect through the active transistors (of the billions present in modern APUs).
Nope. Constant power just means that it is not allowed to exceed a certain threshold. Power draw is a result of transistor flips or work being done. If there is no work being done then there is no power draw.

It’s kind of both. Not being able to exceed a certain power threshold applies to fixed clocks, too.

We don’t know the specifics but it should be that when the system is under load it will adjust frequency to keep power constant.

As it has been described by Cerny that doesn’t mean occasionally scaling up to maximum clocks when there’s not much happening, but it being designed to sit at them under expected game loads and dropping them while keeping power constant when the power draw is unusually high.
Examples given for high power draw scenes include a low triangle map screen, or extensive use of power hungry instructions that they otherwise couldn’t anticipate if designing a fixed-clock system.

Variable clocks with a fixed power target that is independent of any die or ambient temperature is entirely about having a deterministic cooling target and being able to run game code at clock speeds impossible to run at with a fixed clock that has to anticipate edge cases like uncapped map screens or unusually high power hungry instruction usage, like the 128-bit native instructions Cerny gives as an example.

It’s how they’re getting so much out of many less CUs. It’s part of what was being whispered as “brute force vs efficiency” before any specifications were made public.

Great argument... The July event is really getting you guys worked up. You start nitpicking on the smallest things like a marketing video of a label they put on games. It's OK, PS5 will be a great system with great games, but compared to last gen it won't be the only system that will be doing great. Which you should applaud by the way, this will push Sony to do better, just like Sony pushed Microsoft to do better.

But Sony already has done “better” with its SSD+I/O engineering, and who knows what else, for both consoles as of yet. This is exactly what Sony (in particular) wished and set out to do. They didn’t seem to want a powerhouse console in the GPU area as MS is pushing with its marketing. MS has its narrative for their nice box they want to tell consumers as does Sony. Those who prefer Sony’s consoles for their gaming hobby, I believe that they already know they’re going to get good value for their choice and for the remainder of nextgen.

Bottom line is, in the technical and scientific sense each console is stronger, and at the very least, noticeably distinguished from one another.

Think he’s talking framerate. Seems to me like he’s just following up on the premise of “higher framerates”. The interesting thing about that is that the higher framerates will be enabled by the fact that their games are also aimed at much weaker hardware, and little to do with the XSX itself.

I don't even know whats going on there, infact i don't want to know.
Kill it with FIRE.:messenger_beaming:

Probably to get themselves high.

I think a big part of the 'delays' is that neither MS nor Sony wants to release pricing yet and the more they talk without mentioning price, the more people will be asking about it. So just trying to drag things out till they are ready. I also think that both of them want to see what the other is going to be pricing at first as well.

MS just needs to say $399 for the Series X if they're worried about being undercut and get it over with (j/k).

If that did happen though, Sony would only match that and couldn't go lower. I know they want to make as much as possible but, let's get this over with already.

Seems fine but they need to be careful with that HellBlade 2 reveal. Ideally it should be pure gameplay and running at a Native 4K. Anything less and there will be backlash.
If there will be no first party XSX exclusives for 2 years, I really don't expect that image quality for something that must run on Xbox One S. But if it is exclusive, then I don't think we'll see any gameplay so early.

I honestly think that's why Sony is going with two SKUs so they can be more flexible with pricing. Doesn't mean they don't have their limits on how low they can price it. Same goes for Microsoft.

That would be a cool lineup to see! The only one I think is less likely is the Elden Ring. I don't think we're going to see anything on that till at least end of year. I'm just thinking if George R.R. Martin can't even finish his last Song of Ice and Fire BOOK...he probably can't write a game script quickly either! :) Would be awesome though!
I remember seeing somewhere there would be no gameplay this year.

I was always intrigued by what I saw of the Fable games. Were they really good and fun to play? If they were, it would sure be good for the Xbox community to get that back and running. As I recall, the last one ended up being delayed, delayed and finally cancelled, wasn't it? Maybe the could resurrect that one and re-engineer it so they could continue the series?
I honestly never played a game in the series, but I have a very Zelda fan friend who assured me that Fable had the potential to be a "Zelda". It turns out that it’s not very hard to find Xbox 360 fans who have some feeling for the series, so I think its was a great game.

Have you seen a 120 fps game running on XSX? I'm really curious here...
Dirt 5? Or you think the developers themselves are also lying?

Which first party games are running at 120FPS? You did say Phil himself so I'm wondering if I missed any 120FPS first party titles.
Why first party? A game is enough. Dirt 5 in this case. And the comment itself was more as a joke to point out that saying stuff and then not delivering happens on both sides.

did you put Deathloop 2 times in PS5 just to make the PS5 list bigger?

Again, we still have to see a game really running on XSX, let alone on 120fps. Spencer delivered nothing so far.

The developers of dirt 5 confirmed that there is a 120fps mode for XSX

Regarding „running on XSX“ lol let’s just wait for the launch of the console. So far, Sony not MS showed any game running on the actual console. Or did anyone actually see the console running a game? I don’t think so
