Since the NBA2K21 70 dollars price for next gen, and some publishers saying they might rise the entry price for games in the next-gen. There's been some discussion around it, and a lot to discuss on the matter if you are up for it, like if the games cost the same or less due to inflation, how much truth is on the rising costs of production, if the playerbases are the same than old days, microtransactions, etc etc etc.

But at the end of the day it's just one question and is up to you, the consumer, to decide. Are you ok with paying a new MSRP of $70 dollars for videogames?

Makes sense for the cost to go up to me. Games have been $60 since the 80s. The amount of work that goes into AAA titles today is insane, and it will just keep getting worse.

We also get regular and easy to track sales like others said if you're willing to wait a few months.

At launch I won't have much of a choice. But I already stopped buying 90% of my games at full price years ago.

They are just not often worth $65 to me anymore. So if I'm looking at like $76 after tax next gen, I'll buy even fewer until the completely inevitable sales hit.

Not likely. I buy lots of games day 1 or right after and at 70 I have no interest in most of them enough. I don't believe we'll ever get the generational leap we used to get that could warrant a price increase in games. Stop paying AAA actors to do voicework and find ways to bring costs down, not up. I would guess that at least 80% of my purchases would wait for sub 40 sales if they go 70. I don't play single games enough to think they cover being worth 60 before I beat them or move on to spent 10 extra

For the games I want...sure, I already usually pay much more.
70 - 75 is a normal launch price in Gamestop here in Ireland anyway.

99,5% of people would buy (they don't really have a choice) impulse buy, others wont which wont make any difference in the grand scheme of things.
(excuse my bad eng)

Many games are already $120 for the complete game. You can get the base game for maybe $60. They can charge whatever they want. If it looks like a good deal, I will buy it.

Depends on the game. Aslo depends on how heavy the micro-transactions are. 2K21 for example has no business costing $70 considering the small incremental "upgrades" it receives each year.

It seems to me an insult that even in a Covid 19 crisis, they are increasing the price of a game. More insulting is Assassin's creed Valhalla, just look at that piece of shit, it looks like a game in the early PS4 era and they say it's next gen

What happend if is a Nintendo Game??
Buy it used or wait for a sale?

Coming from PC i'm used to cheap game prices (and i'm not talking about Keyseller here) so when i borrowed myself a PS4 it was new to me paying 60+Bucks for a game.

I'll probably buy less new games this generation, but with things like Xbox Game Pass/PSNow and backwards compatibility, I really don't think that will be much of an issue tbh. Some games like Starfield, the next Doom, the next Wolfenstein or God of War 5 I'll absolutely buy without waiting for a sale (barring my backlog being insane at the time or more exciting games coming out around the same time) but there are many games that I will likely wait for sales on if they are $70 now

The sports titles become the standard price and the RPG's cost $10-$20 more. Who wants that?

I don't have a problem with more tiers of pricing on the higher end. If I don't think it's worth it, I just won't buy it. As it stands now I just sifted through what would have been the E3 content of the year and most of it is what I would consider indie garbage. If these companies need more money to produce large, single player story driven video games I'm willing to pay it. Save me from this sprite based, survival multiplayer FPS indie hell. Even if it costs $10 at a time.

I only buy maybe 1 or 2 games at full price a year so I dont care. I am a Game Pass gamer that buys games during digital sales.

Depends on the game.
Sony first party games, yes. They go all out with the story based game budgets.

Third party games not so much, depends.
The next Ass Creed, no.
The next Fallen Order, yes.
Any single player game which has a large multiplayer component, no. These game generally sacrifice the single player component.

I bought my fare share of digital $99.99, 79.99 and $69.99 packages. If it’s a season pass I want then that’s fine, whatever. I don’t do the $99.99 a whole lot now because I just didn’t utilize whatever they gave me. I never got my God of War Metal pin from the big digital edition. My Gears of War 4 $99 package felt pointless. I opened those cases up months after I had finished the campaign. I mainly did it to support the developers. I’m ok with paying a little more for next gen. I learned to stick with the base version unless it’s super good like a large expansion to the game. TLOU2 was worth $70, but I only spent $64 USD for it. I didn’t need the bonus stuff except the Ellie avatars.

I play mostly on PC, and regional pricing is kind of all over the place in my region, games that are $60 in the US are anywhere from $20 to $80 in my region, depending on publisher. So this doesn't really apply to me that much.

I also play on Switch, but I don't expect any $70 games on that.

For games that are only on console (basically Playstation 1st and 3rd party exclusives, plus the very rare console only games), I don't mind paying $70, provided the game is quality and free of in-game monetization.

I don't buy the "we need to raise prices" publisher arguments thought when they're all constantly boasting about how much more money they're making in every financial report.

Ask me about my Stream Deck
If I really have to have it or it's a cultural touchstone then yes otherwise my backlog makes sure I can wait for the next sale.

So you are willing to pay MORE than the standard price if you think it's worth it but you won't buy it if it isn't worth it. Makes sense but why don't you apply that logic to all games being the standard price instead of begging to pay more for some games?

Yeah/No.

Standard price of a game here is £40-60. Mostly £55.

If it goes any higher then I'm likely to either A) wait for a sale B) not buy the game at all.

Not gonna lie though, if it's a game I really am excited about.... For example, Cyberpunk then I'd pay £65-70 without hesitation because I just ain't waiting and/or I know I'm gonna play the shit out of it.

For most games especially if I'm not sure about it then I'm gonna wait for price drops. This upcoming generation I already intended to be way more strict on what games I buy in order to not waste as much money and have a shit load of games to play. I'm only gonna play one game at a time and if I need to go weeks/months without a game then fine....so I have no problem waiting for sales.

On PC I never have to pay full price, I just wait for a sale and work on my backlog.

If a game has enough content and I'm excited to play it though, I'll pay $70. Big racing game releases like Forza, Monolith Soft RPGs, Nintendo releases, etc I always buy on launch day and dump whatever I'm currently playing. I have put over a hundred hours into a lot of games over the last 35 years.

If it's a one-and-done game that will last 15 hours and then gets shelved, I'll just hold out until it's on sale.
