He’s not a Gaf member, but I’d like to thank the Star Wars cuck for all the entertainment he’s brought us.

In my heart, you’re an honorary Gaffer.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Thanks to Grinchy Grinchy for always liking my posts on the 90 Day Fiance thread and for knowing I'm not the only person obsessed with this silly show

Thank you to zeroFiveNine zeroFiveNine for fact checking me. I know I'm not right all the time, and I appreciate those who call it out, as I can also learn a thing or two occasionally.

Thanks to Ailynn Ailynn for sticking around the forums. Some days are probably harder than others here for you, but you always give people your time, and it means a lot.

And thanks to everyone else who managed to stick around through the great exodus of GAF. Things got pretty messy. I don't agree with how some of it panned out, but I believe in second in chances, so I waited. A community is not comprised of one individual; those who left because of EviLore EviLore forgot that. I'm glad this place got back to its roots

Thank you very much! ❤ Everyone has been very kind with me here, and I'm thankful to be a part of a forum where people can have open and honest discussions. Good to have you here, too! :)

I like you. The fawning over how stunning and brave you are gets a bit tiresome though. You’re one of us and I wish people would stop acting like you’re different.

It’s funny how engrained IdPol is. Even the people who regularly speak out against it, can fall into it.

I’m hearing impaired, so when people realize, I often get this ‘stunning and brave’ treatment, and ultra-PC must-not-offend approach.

I have to deprogram people out of it, and have had to my entire life. Deaf jokes are okay and welcomed, I’m not special or amazing — we all have problems and deal with them, etc.

It’s all well meant, and there’s zero offense taken, but there seems to be this idea that you have to immediately place someone with (unique issue) on a pedestal, and that’s simply not the case. Just be cool and be yourself.

I want to thank all of the non-dramatic members that are still talking games. You’re the MVP baby

Why are you trying to take my drama away? Explain yourself.

I'm ok that same boat. When I tell people I'm deaf, they immediately apologize. And not just apologize but PROFUSELY apologize. I laugh and tell them they don't have to. It's no big deal. They didn't know. They go from being annoyed to looking like a puppy just died.

My sister from another mister says "you deaf mother****er!" ... And we all laugh! LOL! It's no biggie. And I know her... She loves me and always tries to make me laugh. My other friends will make some kind of deaf joke and it'll be a hoot!

Being able to have a laugh at it and, I hate this word, but sure why not, lol, normalize it, really is the best way. It’s a part of your life, and if you’re going to be a part of theirs, their life too, so everybody should be as comfortable as possible.

Yeah, there’s some interesting reactions, though. :messenger_tears_of_joy: I know what you mean about that puppy look. Sometimes I am tempted to troll them and act all offended, but the good-naturedness takes over, hahaha.

EXACTLY!

It's very rare, at least for me, for someone to be mean and make fun of my deafness. Either I don't hear them (if I don't have my sound processor on) or someone comes at them defending me... Which has only happened once (I don't want my people or a stranger getting into a fight on my behalf.... I can fight my own battles and that should be my choice to do so or not).

Do you have a hearing aid or a Cochlear Implant?

I’ve also had exactly one person try to be mean about it. I was working retail at a store, had a customer who talked like he had a mouth full of marbles, and I just politely asked him to repeat himself, and I guess he went into mocking, huh, huh? I don’t know what his problem was. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I would like to tell you I shot back with how he sounded like a retard munching oatmeal or something, but I was a really big pushover back then. My coworker overheard it though, and all hell broke loose, hahaha. He was pretty much chased out.

I’ve never had a problem otherwise. People are a lot cooler about that than most would think.

Double hearing aids here. As I don’t know what a sound processor is, I guess you have the Cochlear? What’s that like? I barely know anything about it.

I lost all hearing in both ears as a result of an infection or something... I still don't know what caused it as I thought it was allergies when I was a teen ... But by the time I was 21, the damage was done. I wore hearing aids from 10 years old til my total hearing loss.

I got my cochlear when I was 34. I'm 45 now. The Cochlear Implant has been a life changer! I can hear everything now. It was an adjustment to hearing again as I hadn't heard a thing for over a decade.

I had surgery to implant it (obviously) and it didn't last long. Outpatient surgery. I came in and left the same day. My doctor is the best in the southeast! Or one of the best.

I also have wireless Bluetooth accessories that make watching TV, listening on the phone and listening to people in a crowd MUCH easier than before I got the upgrade to the Nucleus 6.

They also have an implant for people that are hard of hearing. It's called the BAHA processor.

Edit: do you know ASL?

It's all good! Every person has their own individual problems that others can never fully understand, but it's important to not let our difficulties in life define us. I've always seen a good sense of humor about oneself as a sign of higher emotional intelligence.

It's like the whole "Dave Chapelle is transphobic" thing- One of his biggest fans and the person laughing the hardest at his trans jokes was a trans woman who he actually inspired to get into comedy.

Take Daryl Davis and how he befriended and opened the hearts of KKK members, causing them to empty the hatred in their hearts and leave the clan forever. It's kindness, empathy, and love that makes a difference in this world. Blind outrage, denial of open debate, and a push for cancel culture only serve to piss off the world and make people appear seemingly insane. :lollipop_downcast_sweat:

(Sorry for the poorly put together post- I was in the middle of running errands and I'm terrible at multitasking.) :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Apologies for taking so long to get back to you!

It’s ancient news for you, and doesn’t even matter anymore, but I’m sorry you had to go through that. For what that’s worth. I don’t know if I’m violating the things I talked about earlier, lol, but a big internet hug to you all the same.

It’s truly wonderful that you have it back. A blessing. I’ve only recently started hearing ( :messenger_expressionless: ) about the implants, but I wasn’t aware they were this far along, for a really long time.

Even if surgery, even outpatient surgery, terrifies me, hahaha.

I don’t know sign language, but would like to, with one foot into that world. It feels a lot more meaningful than other things I could learn, especially if it opens up communication with people who have gone through something similar (but worse) to what I have.

Fantastic, really well thought out posts, and the ability to draw out a great conversation.
