I remember someone told me once that all the features of RDNA2 might not be useful on consoles due to RDNA2 being primarily designed for PCs.

Is this still possible?

Maybe, we know because of the clocks and RT its RDNA2 based maybe not full of the shelf. Maybe xbox is more that off the shelf standard.

Maybe its like getting 2 cars one a slightly older version and a newer one.

But the older one then has all the meaningful engine and efficiency advances updated bar a few minor things not deemed necessary for them.

It would still be highly competitive with the 'newer' one.

Just my thoughts on a possible example.

Yes it is which is why its weird to see him refer to as in between, but can't agree on the FUD as this comes not from fanboys but that Sony guy.

Yes I agree but it poorly worded and left space for the Xbox armada get in.. I’m not faulting him as he was caught in this shitstorm and held roasting by the FUD team..

Bottom line is ps5 GPU is for sure a beast not as powerful in terms of compute power as x sex but as bit as competent and in some ways maybe even more than the Xbox do to is higher clocks..

Like ms Sony had access to amd latest technology and with their goals in mind took what they taught was the more important and in some cases even contributed to future tech in amd portfolio.. doubting at this point of what mark Cerny and his tem delivered is foolish..

The proof is in the pudding and in November we will have plenty of opportunities to compare the two boxes with real games...

yeah, without perf per watt of RDNA 2.0, you are not getting a 2.23 ghz card in a desktop PC, let alone a console. You can try and take a 5700 and push it to 2.23 ghz but it wont even go above 2.15 ghz. and even then it was at like 250w for the gpu alone.

Sony was able to get RT shadows in Demon Souls at native 4k, RT reflections in ratchet in native 4k, and RT reflections in GT7 in native 4k 60 fps. i think it's pretty damn impressive. that said, the games clearly didnt look as good as hellblade 2 so maybe the vrs, dlss, and other missing features in the ps5 are what making xsx games look so good. maybe. I guess we will find out in five days if everything else looks as good as horizon, let alone hellblade2.

Well on hellblade we must remember it looked great but not actual gampelay.

Running at less than 4k and 24fps.

If horizon for ex ran at those specs it would see a hefty boost in avaliable performance.

Next is the lack of Hardware RT and we will get the usual posts with 8TF. I mean we already have people claiming that the PS5 version of FC6 is the same as the PS4 pro version.

No, there is nothing to suggest this, some people are just really triggered by calling RDNA2 with some things taken out RDNA 1.5

Let's for a second run with the Sony were going to release in 2019 story...

Anyway regardless of how they got there real world results so far have had no game with a res or framerate advantage on XSX. So the specific GPU classification is almost irrelevant even though its been deemed rdna 2 based....

The question should fall to the xbox side.

If this was in any way a meaningful disadvantage for sony then why can't xbox better it even so far?

According to Cerny with the old strategy (fixed clock and no smartshift) even 2GHz was too high, so it's not like their GPU is build to run at such high clock as 2.2GHz. It's only possible because of smartshift and variable clock. MS console is using fixed clock (old strategy) but it only gives them 1.8GHz.

Overall PS5 GPU performance looks impressive and I was really surprised to see RT in so many games. I thought PS5 GPU will be too slow for RT, but I was wrong.

So no, I don't think the ps5 will underperform, and after Cerny's talk we know why that is.

But that's the thing. Even during Cerny's talk, one could be sceptic and call it marketing bull. But after seeing the PS5 in action? Actually seeing the minimal loading times, the UE5 demo, the amazing visuals of HZD2? There's little room for denial. The PS5 will be an amazing console.

And PS fans should be ECSTATIC that the Series X proves to be more powerful in most areas than the PS5 - it will force Sony to not rest on their laurels and call this gen their own before it even begins - may even prompt them to be less stingy with the CUs on the PS6, or even consider a PS5 Pro down the road.

There's nothing more constructive in your path to power than a challenging rival who constantly forces you to be better.

Well the only reason this is being debated is because it came from a Sony guy and he had the message put to him on twitter and he confirmed the bit about being up playing ghost of T. He has the chance to say it wasn't him or whatever and didn't so he obviously did say it.

But what is meant by it in contrast to what cerny and amd have said whoknows. Maybe both are right, it is RDNA 2 based but maybe not full RDNA based on all available features some of which Sony didn't want so no loss.

It definitely has all the important stuff.

If the PS5 is indeed RDNA 1.5 and XSX is 2.0 then MS better bring the goods. I expect every 30 fps game to look as good as hellblade 2.

i also dont know why Cerny and Lisu Su would claim its RDNA 2.0, though i do remember Cerny saying RDNA 2.0 BASED Custom GPU so it;s likely more RDNA 2.0 then rdna 1.0. Regardless, ML was also confirmed by the EA exec so I have no idea wtf is going on.

What find a little odd is that he says that he needs to check and see what information he can reveal due to his NDA. Then right after he releases the RDNA1.5 part.

I know he said that he could only talk about what has been revealed. But did Sony really reveal that the PS5 is RDNA1 with RDNA2 features bolted on or did they say it's a custom RDNA2 chip?
