Hard to Kill
Sony was building this foundation during the PS3 days while MS was gaining the repuation of a Forza, Halo, Gears factory while focusing on Kinect.

It's going to take a while but you can at least see the effort is there.
Not really sure they shifted focus from TV and kinect but it is toward gamepass everywhere but I want games not a service(even if it is good) but games that makes me want the next consoles, there was nothing like that there.
And when Phill took over people said "haha he's gonna turn things around we're gonne get awesome games" we didn't
When they bought studio we thought "there now we will have games" we still don't
When the may event disapointed we thought "hey but there's a first party show next it will show games"
it didn't

Now maybe we should start to think "hey maybe they're just bad at it"

I'm kinda starting to appreciate the PS5 more and more, especially after todays event. It's clear Sony's aim with the PS5 was to create never seen before gaming experiences with deep immersion, and their emphasis on 3D audio, haptic/adaptive triggers and ultra fast I/O is proof of this. We're getting something unique and new.

I'm still confused at Microsofts approach with the Series X, it seems like they've thrown a lot of power into their console but there hasn't been an emphasis on new types of gaming experiences, maybe on things like visual fidelity, FPS, and resolution but even PS5 seems to be doing a better job at that. Again I could be wrong, I guess it's still early to make these kind of judgements. Maybe Microsoft has some ammo loaded for the coming months but right now it's clear to see who's ahead.

I didn't get that at all from the PS5 reveal show. For now, it's all buzzword until we see actual gameplay.

Go Go Neo Rangers!
Im pretty lukewarm on next gen in general. Best looking game so far is Ratchet and Clank. Both launches look empty. If it wasn't for the stiumlus might be the first time since n64 I would actually sit the launches out. I am not seeing anything from either side thats selling me on these boxes.

Microsofts entire presentation being available on Game Pass is the biggest story of Next Gen so far.

Hobbygaming

has been asked to post in 'Grounded' mode.
After this being my first generation of skipping xbox, I was really hoping they were going to pull me back in today, but sadly it didn't happen.

No matter how they spin it, you can't fully harness the power of a new console when the games still need to run on the previous generation of hardware, and it really showed today with Halo.

Everwild stood out to me, I thought the art design was fantastic. There were a couple others that caught my eye as well ( I was eating lunch and feeding my 10 month old so I missed some title cards) so I'll have to watch again in 4k tonight. The Fable teaser looked great but was only CG. Was expecting a lot more gameplay overall really.

Oh well, maybe in a couple of years once Fable and other next gen exclusives start rolling out it'll be worth it.
Everwild looks amazing but I was hoping for a stylized realistic looking Fable in the vein of The Witcher 3 so I'm disappointed, even though I knew the odds

I have had a couple of disagreements with you Snake but fuck me this is a nail on the head. And i mean struck Dead centre.

those two clowns are making complete fools out of us.

I have been sucker punched by phil and not in a good way like the sony one.

Sigh- Stupid fucking Sardine am i.
Wow you seem really angry, relax but I feel you I was hoping there would be great thing but felt let down but it pushed me toward a PC.

this is an excellent point. Remember Phil took over immediately from Don Matrick after e3 2013. He had 7 years. His first aquisition was Minecraft in 2014. he then waited four long years to acquire his second studio. That is where he fucked up.

Still 2018-2020 is still 2 years. Like what was he doing? 2 years isnt enough time to prep a realtime trailer like sony did? we get pre-rendered scenes, not even trailers, for four of their big AAA games? I really dont understand what these studios were doing.

Also, didnt he say he was very proud of the japanese games at the show. what japanese games? PSO remaster?
unfortunatly they do not make AAA anymore. Look at Halo, the game pass effect is showing.

Ratchet at least showed how the SSD might benefit games ... Gran Turismo showed raytracing and Horizon showed amazing textures.

Here only The Medium showed the ssd but it's timed exclusive. And Halo looked bad(for a next gen title).

Ratchet maybe.... but did anything else create "gaming experiences with deep immersion, and their emphasis on 3D audio, haptic/adaptive triggers and ultra fast I/O"?

Jury's still out. Same with Xbox, mind you. We just need to see more.

We got the ultra fast I/O but tell me how you can feel the haptic without holding the controller ?As for the audio I tried it with a 3d audio compatible headset and believe when ratchet goes into the rift where ther's a lot of partals you can hear each and everyone of them it's amazing.

He's the quint-essential PR guy, I genuinely don't know why so many folks fall for his PR non-sense. He's been in-charge of XGS since 2009, much of the decline in FP games in latter part of X360 reign happened under his nose. Don Mattrick was the fall guy since he was the head of entire Xbox division yet everyone sweeps the role of Spencer under the rug. I was optimistic about his approach when he spoke about re-build after taking the reins in 2014. But, his first major move was to create a new console. Not one but 2! He spoke about role of VR in the future and Xbox One X could tap into it (I'm not joking, just see his interviews at the launch of XB1X)Some of the big budget games like Fable and ScaleBound were canned by him, and the acquisition spree didn't happen until 2017.

Now, he's talking about putting us at center of everything and how next-gen only exclusives are a bad idea, or how timed-exclusives suck. Only to do it himself. It's all business with him, he says what suits him in the moment. Just wait, till the stuff like HB2/FM/Fable start to come together and actually look visually stunning. He won't stop singing praises about the capability of new hardware.

They are and will make AAA games. Just don't expect SP games with no micro-transactions. They need the service element to raise revenue because $10 a pop is not going to cut it for the amount of content they are putting on GS. It's the trade-off for having things 'cheap'.

But Xbox fans told me Halo infinite was built for the xbox series x.

My favorite was "Halo Infinite E3 2019 trailer was better than any game on PS5 showcase". Or, "I'm bookmarking [post], and I'll come back to this after XGS Showcase!"

Halo Infinite cost five hundred million dollars and THAT is what they achieved (so far) with that money?

I feel sorry for every Halo fan out there. Christ what a punch in the gut.

That figure is as 'real' as them spending $100 million on XB1 controller aka not true.

That game is a by-product of development hell which has been documented by many sources over the years. I expect the content to stretch thin at launch and be gradually filled over-time. When you have 2 directors leave the same project in space of 3 years, then it means, the game is going to be a mis-mash of different ideas.

I am abit angry, we have had nothing but constant pr from the mouths of phil spencer and co the last few months. They have basically been lying to us, everyday they come out with some new bullshit. Its like those constant videos from eastwood and dealer its just trash, all of it.

Either Phil spencer is rubbish at his job or he has no idea what games are really about.

It's just tiring and to make things worse, give it a few hours and you will start getting in the delusional fanboy squad, you know the ones who have been taking shots at sony for the last month saying how they are bad and have under delivered.

Its all bullshit.

I'm actually not surprised. I always thought that the next gen would come down to games which Sony has always had. But I was little surprised that Microsoft didn't show anything that really that makes me go wow that's next gen looks like the same Halo. Forza looks nice but no gameplay . Phil hyped this saying he was confident in their showcase after seeing Sony's and I honestly can't 👀 why

All of this. We don't play resolutions and frame rates, we play games and right now Sony has been putting all their chips on new gameplay experiences.

Unfortunately i have been gullible. I hate to say it but i feel ashamed of myself for falling for this HOOK LINE AND SINKER. You see what i did there. :messenger_grinning:

I'm ready to start eating, who's ready to serve first... I've heard crow tastes like chicken. LOL

Being serious, I thought a lot of the games looked interesting. It seems like they are going a different direction with SoD3, but with nothing but the little bit of CGI it's hard to tell.

Everwild looks imaginative, but I just don't know what that game is even trying to be.

Mass Effect Andromeda looked better in every aspect except perhaps for its weird facial animations. This should have been the wow moment and made for next gen only but instead it fell flat so much that I am now questioning 343's competency in graphics. Also gameplay wise they just added grappling hook and made it open world and be done with it, it seems. There was nothing that wowed me.

I feel ya man that's the problem I always had with Phill he will say yes in front of the camera then forget it 10 seconds later.
And I hate PR talk I'd rather a company to shut up and surprise than promise smoke.
And Phil (which was at the head of XGS) as in a lot of ways destroyed what Xbox once was.
I loved the first one and especially Halo 2 but now they just churn out gamepass content to keep subs but creativity and risks is nowhere to be seen (except from everwild this one's looks great though).
Ambition is was I miss from Xbox not ambition in what they say because the always promise the moon but ambition in the games. And that's what they don't get I think.
