343 says the Halo demo was the polished version at the MS show

I think you guys are being harsh on this.

This game was clearly, CLEARLY, built for Xbox One. A Halo game to be open-world at 60fps on Xbox One was the goal here. At some point very late into the process, Microsoft wanted this game to be updated for the Xbox Series X. You cannot simply "transfer" everything into next-gen with the flip of the switch. What you are seeing is a cross-gen game predominately built for the former.
they shouldn’t say developed natively for xbox series x then.
“Brand new games built natively for the Xbox Series X such as Halo Infinite.”

But but the people at Microsoft said it wouldn’t be held back

Look at the geometry, look at the LOD on the trees! What is polished about that? The visuals are shocking. 343 need to come clean and state they had some difficulty in development, or that making 4 different versions for Xbox and PC is taking a toll.

Does anyone else think Halo gameplay demo was polished ?

Yes. Sony fans will just hate on it not matter what . The lighting was great , the frame rate flawless and some wonderful Vista's . Best of all, no crappy 4 player mode, no online crap.. but a game that captured the original game: in terms of combat, gameplay and music (insert original gfx joke here).

It couldn't be any more HALO if BUNGiE made it

Can please someone explain this gif? I just don't get it.
There is no need to be upset was a continuation of the "That Really Rustled My Jimmies" meme of quite a few years back.
It's basically building upon how there they used a gorilla picture.

I think the problem with Halo is Microsoft doesn't really know what to do with it. When they try to advance it like they did with Halo 4 and 5 they receive backlash from the old timers yearning for Halo of old. So they try to make Halo Infinite like the 1st Halo.

Problem is that there are new generations of gamer's in their late teens and 20s that don't have that same affinity for old Halo. Halo is a marque franchise in gaming history. It should always be advancing the state of the art in graphic technology.

Play Oni: Sword base on Halo Reach on the One X. That level is semi open, and looks much better than this demo. It’s embarrassing, and I don’t understand how they are proud of this garbage they are trying to feed us. Xbox and Phil needs to hear the complaints from all us Halo fans. This is not acceptable. Delay this shit show of a game.

343i should be smart enough to understand that any comment they make regarding the state of their development will viewed unfavorably. Even the memes work against them.

The fact they're bragging about the demo and embracing the memes tells you all you need to know about them as a company. 1000+ people and 500 million budget and their game has become a meme, smh.

It boils down to terrible project management and coordination. Also perhaps that making their new engine took longer than anticipated. Even then, they should have got contract studios to help with the xbone and one x versions. Which then leads back to the people managing the project. Why did they not see this two yrs ago and get other support studios involved?

Bad management

I am getting some Anthem flashbacks here. They had such detailed grand visions for the game as GaaS for a decade.... but they never finished the core game to the standard that would have allowed it said longevity.

you can polish a turd, but its still a turb, not matter how big the bow is

for a 12ft, most powerful console, its a massive joke, if i was a xbx fan i would be on full damage control, and extremely disappointed, and shocked.

the game looks like arse, looks bland in terms of gameplay, nothing dymanic about it, everything is static, the pop in is a joke

i showed a friend of mine, who doesnt follow the upcoming games, and played the trailer, he thought it was a 360 halo remaster.........and looking at it, i can see why

it honestly looks like its missing a whole textured layer on top to me, look slike an old UE game , in terms of textures

game and xbx are a meme currently

Xbox 360 was rushed out of the door to give them a year of headstart against the upcoming PS3 (with a CPU IBM gave them after Sony partially funded its development, but that is a whole other story) and we have seen what that resulted in.

PS3 also was a design which fluctuated till the last minute with a GPU cobbled together in the last two years or less after their internal GPU solution Toshiba was working with them on was canned causing quite an internal surprise in Toshiba’s rank and file. PS3’s software stack/dev tooling solutions also suffered greatly from this resulting in more CG demos than real-time gameplay and several troubles for first party and third party developers alike.

To me it seems you did choose examples backing my point more than anything... 🤷‍♂️.

Some people pushed the narrative of PS5’s architecture as revealed being a knee jerk reaction to the XSX, but given how close to release they are compared to MS one could legitimately wonder if the opposite is not the case (consider the performance issues and HW bugs preventing developers from showing off games on real HW 3-4 months from launch are all tied to the XVA).
Also, while you can project a very ambitious 12.x TFLOPS sustained plan you may conveniently forget to mention that will take extra months upon months of R&D and how it is affecting the devkit and tools readiness for developers.
Sigh, it doesn't prove your point. Xbox 360 and PS3 had heat issues ( more so the xbox ) both consoles switched to lead free solder along with all other hardware manufacturers everywhere. That brought with it a number of issues like processors becoming unseated due to heat, which would not have happened without the switch. Sure those consoles had issues but none of it was due to what you said was one rushing to compete with the other. Both consoles had problems with processors being unseated. PS3 was bigger and had better cooling, so the issue didn't occur as much. I don't really see how lead free solder backs your example.

I'm still not certain what you are saying? Do you think a hardware problem on XSX was caused by a knee jerk reaction to the PS5 SSD/architecture?

Sure, as can be expected since sony waited so late to show anything and people pushed that narrative, yup. We still don't know if its true or not. The sony show where they barely showed first party games didn't fill me with confidence that they aren't having problems too. So say it's not true and they aren't, that means you are gonna come and push a counter narrative yourself? what's that say about your post? It just makes it seem like you have an agenda.

So it sounds like the information about a hardware upgrade was out a few months ago with the lockhart mention. Everyone missed it. It did say summer right? Pretty sure summer isn't over. Again you're making a lot of assumptions and jumping to conclusions with nothing to support it.

I love opening up Halo articles filled with Sony fanboys 🤣. Enjoy your moment to take your jabs and get your memes off. I'm sure you guys will be swinging extra fast in the Spiderman expansion soon enough 😄

Dude. Stop being pathetic. I got halo for all gens plus bought halo mcc recently on pc. I got shit load of halo collectors and merchandise.

There's no reason to defend this shit. The event showed mediocre and bland gameplay, huge empty feeling areas that looked scripted and bland. And don't get me started on that fucking gorilla popping around.

It's a disgrace. Bungie should have kept doing halo instead of going independent and make a halo lite mmorpg. 343i with halo and Bungie with mmo halo is the worst of both worlds.

Not only this, but I'd add that sony is just now shipping final devkits for PS5. We just got ours last week. Its probably late in the game for both companies to be honest. Sony has a leg up on MS by having final kits first.

Now people call me anti-Sony all the time. Well, this is a time you can write up in your logbooks.

Halo Infinite was the worse preview of a next-gen title I've ever seen. It's clearly using last-gen assets and that's the reason why it can run so smoothly. It's basically eating up the raw power of the XSX using high resolution and targeting a massive FPS. There is NOTHING in that demo that showed 'nextgen' type quality. I wish they would have made Halo be more akin to COD/Killzone with very complex rendering features. For being a big selling point for MS, they sure did let a lot of people down.

But while it’s easy to get carried away about the prospect of playing Halo Infinite, it’s worth taking a minute to think about the enormous work put into this playable preview of Halo Infinite. While this is just a section of the final game, it took a herculean effort to make sure this little corner of our Ringworld was polished and pretty enough for its premiere! The art, lighting, design, environment, graphics, production and engineering teams involved in carving out and curating this little slice, are nervous and excited to show people a glimpse of what we’re building.

Damn, if Hercules ain’t pissed off at this, he should be.

Ye bro we are all sony fanboys. The demo looks rough. I wanted it to be good after 5 I'm sure the story is a banger but the game needs more time in the oven on a visual front. As I said in another thread I've always been blown away by the visuals of the time period regarding Halo. This time I was not and the game was the header of the Xbox showcase oof.

The problem isn't it being polished or not, nor the xsex power. This is a cross-gen title being hold back by weaker hardware with a not very pleasant art style.

What does that have to do with the Xbox series X version? What’s stopping them from putting better grass, better lighting, better textures, better character models in the Xbox series X version?

If you put better textures in the Xbox series X version only, then how does that affect the Xbox one version if it doesnt have them? Do you guys have any idea how development actually works?

There is nothing stopping them from putting better assets in the Xbox series X version of the game. They’re only in that version anyway so it’s not a problem with Xbox one compatibility. It’s not complicated to understand. 343 are just not very good. They're an above average studio at best.

I didn't say all. If the shoe doesn't fit then it wasn't about you. But many are in just for the jokes.

So what we saw is the most polished part of the game? And they made sure it was the best of the best just for the presentation?
Oh man.... I don't even wanna know how the worst parts of the game are...

And that's why all that power isn't the defining factor, like discussed in the UE5 threads.
If the assets are low quality, 4K/60 is meaningless. Halo Infinite is the perfect example.

Nah, you peasants don't understand. Phil said Xbox can't be held back because that's just how PC games work too. I can play Halo Infinite on a 486 if I want. That's what PC gamers have always done.

looks like a mobile game (from this screenshot, which is obviously compressed)

Has there even been a case of a AAA game getting massive improvements compared to pre-release footage shown less than 6 months before release?

Seems like every time a hyped game has a disappointing showing close to release we get the same "It's still in development" "it's an old build", "It wasn't polished" arguments, but there's rarely any significant improvements aside from maybe a smoother framerate or obvious bugs/glitches being fixed.
