What do you think is the absolute latest they could possibly wait for the price and pre-orders? I figure they can't really start the marketing bombardment until the prices are established. With 17 weeks until December, it has to be August, right?
We’re in uncharted territory here. It’s crazy. At this point we almost all believe we are waiting to see who blinks first to have the opposition undercut the other because it’s the only logical reason we have.

If that doesn’t happen, we won’t have a guess about what’s going on. I mean, AMD says the chips are shipping on time as promised. Sony is increasing production. According to rumors Dev kits are getting their retail mode update in the coming weeks. This is honestly the craziest lead to launch ever.

People that say they thought the UK was the country that was also an Xbox stronghold are really holding on to the brand image that, as noted before, was created during the 360 age.
I keep hearing Xbox kids go "I grew up on Halo" during the whole Infinite disaster of the last week and you're all shocked that in the almost 20 years that Halo's been out, people change. Kids these days don't pay Halo. They play Fortnite, Minecraft and Roblox.
The Xbox 360 at its time was the must have games machine for teens and young adults. That youth demographic and the dude bro attitude of the 00s matched perfectly. But that was 15 years ago. Anyone that was 15 at the time is now going on 30. Microsoft ruined all that UK goodwill by making an US only machine in the Xbox 1.
Loads of people switched from Xbox to PS4 and a Switch. When you talk about the hours of multiplayer on Halo that you used to play, kids are now on Fortnite or Apex. The Xbox player base dwindled while Fanboys assumed they'd stay the same because of the past... And that's every games companies biggest fucking failure. Assuming people will stay with you because of your past and your brand. But if that was the case then Atari, the grandfather of video games consoles and companies, would still be around as a success titan. And not the shell and sham of what it once was only in name. But no... For those in the US that thought UK was Xbox country... No, we're gaming country. Sega used to think we were a stronghold for them too... And we were in the 90s. That was 30 years ago though and they still dropped the ball in the end.

Would mean Microsoft would go first with pricing because I can't imagine both waiting even longer.
For them to go first they'll have to be equal on price at the very minimum(IMO), which given their hardware specs might not be so easy.

If rumours of Xbox being behind schedule compared to Playstation for release - in terms of SDKs and games - I think Xbox will wait as long as Playstation and would even welcome both consoles slipping to Feb 2021 releases. It will certainly tell us something about Xbox's development schedule if they do go first.

Jeff’s last SGM tweet from a week ago, he has Xboxing day (Lockhart reveal) come before Sony’s State of Play. Notice how it doesn’t say “early August” for Sony’s event like it did before, just “August.”

I guess whatever Xbox does, Sony wants to go after them. MLID already said in his podcast that the mic drop moments from Xbox would happen in August... I don’t think he is reliable but I also don’t think this game of chicken between Sony and MS will extend into September.

Kingtrash was funny but was just a shit video. DF not taking about every single graphic element in their short not full analysis isn't bias. They almost never do. For all systems. They are always about a few hot topics. It wasn't the full tech video that will come out after launch. It's not bias because it doesn't fit your bias narrative.
How was my video shit?
Explain.

As for Mic drop moments in August for MS. I doubt it. They already used that line leading into their July 23 event and rumor on the next event has it being about how existing games look and play better on XSX (More Gamepass hype?). If there is a Mic Drop moment to be had, it would indeed be them undercutting Sony.

Pre orders are a thing that can literally be started right before launch itself and still be a thing. They can hold up on pricing announcements as long as they like leading to pre orders or launch.... whichever happens first, or at all.

I highly doubt 2021 for releases since production has been ramping up now.

HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST NEW REGION DETAILS, DANGERS AND STORMS DETAILED

Game director Mathijs De Jonge shared how they were able to showcase more detail of the world compared to the original game.

With the additional power of the PS5 we can make the world even more detailed, more vibrant, more immersive.

I’m starting to get this feeling that Microsoft will open up pre-orders for both consoles this month and Sony’s prolly gonna wait until September. Something about Sony’s rumoured event next month doesn’t really sound like the event they would announce the price and open up pre-orders at. Could be completely wrong, but just saying.

That's something I never considered for the SSD - weather systems could be amazing if they can swap assets in and out on a whim.

MARVEL’S AVENGERS LEVELS UP WITH THE POWER OF PLAYSTATION 5 HARDWARE

Crystal Dynamic’s Foundation engine will be pushed to the limit with the help of the PS5 GPU power. It will unleash enhanced ambient occlusion, higher texture resolution, more distant detail, better anistropic filtering and some new features. These features include stochastic screen-space reflections with contact-aware sharpening. All of these enhancements will collude into making the game look more beautiful than ever.

The ability to choose between high framerate mode and best graphics mode is becoming common with the PS5 console these days and Marvel’s Avengers has just added such. Crystal Dynamics’ motto is, after all, “look good, play good.” With the best graphics mode, the game will target 60fps with dynamic 4K resolution.

The PS5’s custom-SSD allowed the game to run really fast even before optimizing it for the next-gen console. After optimization, Crystal Dynamics is happy to announce that the loading scenes are nearly instant, which makes mission hopping seamless. Even hi-res texture loading is too fast.

Man, mid-August is the possible date for PS5? Maybe even Xbox also?

Don't mind waiting, but this is wild for both consoles to wait so late for the important details. We're approaching ~3 months to launch of these systems.

I guess COVID and worldwide economic factors must've done a number on production(maybe) or caused both to be seriously evaluating what price they can go into this economy with. I don't think its just a "cat and mouse" thing.

Yeah both will be releasing pricing in August. Very sure of it.

Going first or second doesn't really matter, both have strategic advantages. Going first also puts you in a position to price your console very low, and if the other one doesn't match it you already have won a battle. You can even price it so low that the other one really has to think if they even want to match it, since it might be too low for comfort.

I don’t know about that In regards to
MS. What I mean by that is, their big gun games aren’t coming soon. They can afford to wait out Sony and their pricing announcement as long as need be. At the moment, they’re all about Gamepass, and how well the new hardware runs existing and soon to come titles on a cross gen level.

If that was true, they should have delayed Series X for another 6 months or even a year. Because they certainly aren't ready. If you don't care about selling hardware then why the hell are you even launching it half baked?

My guess, they didn’t want the PS5 install base to be higher than it would be by not launching at the same time. The games will come for the X. They’ve been saying for a very long time now that they’ve been acquiring studios and AAA games take time to make. That the games would likely be (mostly?) cross gen for the next few years.

Six months delay would do very little for them.

We know their games are 2 years out. Without their 1st party Series X games at launch, Ms is garenteeded to be unable to demonstrate the power of Series X. I am just amazed that they made such an amateur mistake AGAIN. Almost like they don't really care about console launches and is only doing it because the Series X money is already spent.

I guess i am not saying anything new. I am merely saying what people have warned Microsoft months ago if not years, and what Microsoft have denied could happen.

I thought they had said you could run games off of an attached USB HD as well, but you wouldn't get the benefit (obviously) of the faster loading times, etc. An interesting point though...surely you CAN still run PS5 games off of a "slow" attached HD? If you cannot, then that internal storage expansion will be even more valuable and the USB type storage may be relegated to PS4 games only along with storing any PS5 titles you don't want to have to re-download again if you decide to play them again.
Cerny said PS5 games can only run from an SSD, be it the normal one or an expansion attached to the internal bay. Indeed you can run PS4 games from external USB drives, but I think it can be cold storage for PS5 ones, so you can move then to the SSD as needed.

Xbox 360 did very well in the UK. Everyone I knew bought one, and only a couple bought a PS3 at launch. By mid-gen most people had both.

The PS4 vs Xbox One generation was different and heavily stacked towards PS4.

Microsoft threw away the groundwork laid by 360 by not really understanding the market, relying on their diagnostic data and assuming games consoles were shifting into TV/movie streaming devices and focussed on that.

In the UK the Xbox One being weaker was just the final nail in an already built coffin, and not the entire story. It was the (American) TV focus and the fact it seemed like as soon as Microsoft felt they had established themselves at the top they wanted to remove used game sales, as well as all the patents and talk about using the Kinect as a marketing device, and all for an extra cost.

I think the Kinect being such a financial success also sent the wrong message to Microsoft. It was a marketing success, not a gaming one. I bought one as did many I know, and we all thought it was shit once the novelty wore off.
It being bundled and driving up the price put me off. As do voice controls in general, I’d rather have buttons.

From my feeling Xbox One would have tanked compared to 360 even if it was on parity with PS4 as far as power went, and still suffered even at the same price.

This current gen has made Sony look good, so the 85/15 split doesn’t seem surprising.
I can't speak for the UK, but I definitely remember mindshare in the US was much higher for the first half of the 360/PS3 gen for the 360 than PS3. I think the problem with MS, is they got a ton of things right with the 360 (games), but from that point onwards, when they design a new console they take the wrong lessons from current trends and apply it to their system.

The success of Nintendo Wii led to Kinect, MS thought their path to more growth was keep their 360 audience and add to it with the casuals play. This gen, they see all the media companies creating streaming services and believe that is the path forward for gaming. It will be interesting to see if it works out, but TV Shows and Movies are much more widely applicable than games. Additionally, I know a ton of people who will watch a show or movie they don't like just because it is new; I don't think games are the same. Gamers are much more finicky

It will be interesting to see if MS can pull this off. The problem with these streaming services is that it takes a LONG time to make any money (unless you are Disney with 50+ years of content). I still don't think Netflix has turned a profit, but I could be wrong.

I've decided to make a list of the rumors that we still haven't heard any confirmation so far, also adding the original source (as far as I know) some of this things may come from those "pseudoinsiders" but I think there is a chance for some of the things to end up being true.

- The remastering engine for PS5 legacy titles (Source: HipHop Gamer)
- Sony acquiring Kojima Productions (Source: HipHop Gamer)
- Sony acquiring a second studio besides KJP, probably Housemarque or Bluepoint (Source: FoxyGames UK)
- PS5's GPU has some features that will end up appearing on future AMD GPUs (Source: RedGaming Tech AKA @Dan_of_Rivia)
- Sony will show a teaser trailer for the next God of War in their next event (Source: Moore's Law Is Dead)
- Mark Cerny is working on a revival of a PlayStation classic title (Source: Moore's Law Is Dead)
- Japan Studio is working on a new Silent Hill game (Source: Dusk Golem)
- The Initiative working on a Perfect Dark Reboot (Source: A dev's linkedin profile where it was stated that he "designed and scripted various weapons, gadgets, and a camera surveillance system for an unannounced project" which make everyone think about Perfect Dark)

Well, this is all that I can remember, I know some people in this list are not the most reliable but if I remember correctly some of them are betting their names on their claims so I thought it was worth putting them here.

I belive when initially showing off the PS5 controller, Sony themselves said it had more secrets that hadn't been shown/talked about. I don't think Geoff's controller video had anything noteworthy, did it?

Who said that BC was a thing for PS5, and not to throw out your PS1-4 discs?

It kinda makes me a bit sad of late, I was looking at a couple of my older posts the other day, in which I try to extend an olive branch to some Xbox people, all I got was abuse + the only good feedback I got back was from mostly sony dudes.

So hard to bring people together these days.

wasteland does look good, however I was looking for more first-person kind of views like Skyrim.

There is just something magical about that.

I wish someone would release or remake Arx fatalis or lands of lore. they were so good in their day.

That's why I mean, that I don't see the big deal in investing 200USD for another place from where I can play my games, transferring games over USB-C should be fast enough to move the games very easily to the console to play them from there.
Yep, it's very unusual for me to play more than 2 games at a time, and putting 2 more games for my kid, I can postpone buying an internal expansion if I can use external cold storage.

I completely get that and I agree the launch windows are the launch windows as far as we know. But as outside observers looking at what xbox has shown so far - for me anyway - alarm bells are ringing that we haven't seen games running on the actual hardware, or even much in the way of gameplay of games beyond Infinite - too many in-engine graphics IMO.

If you can't show the world games and gameplay in a video running on the hardware, it raises the question of: what hardware would be in a shop demo pod in 4months?

Xbox partnering with a major storage brand mfr for their SSD solution, while said SSD solution being massively behind the competition on bandwidth and latency, and still the XsX games running on the hardware/SSD being a no show, is it beyond the realms of possibility that they are having problems issues as a result of their storage partner?

xbox mentioned the pitfalls for a SSD solution IIRC - in regards of reliability and cooling - so if they are trying to push the SSD/IO solution in software to reduce the gap against the PS5 solution before launch, are they now encountering new cooling and reliability issues with the SSD working at that level? hopefully not, but it was really strange they didn't showcase on XsX hardware IMO - and screamed behind schedule to me.
