Wait, Tencent bad right?
But Trump bad too.
So Tencent good now?
But Trump bad too.

Then simply don't buy those products but why should other people who may be comfortable using them be prevented. If whatever country you reside in banned iOS, Android, facebook or even Gaf would you be ok?The precedence has been set. He did this with Huwai last year
But looking at the legislation, they haven't actually decided which companies this will impact yet. Most likely will be Tencent themselves at the subsidiaries at least though
I mean, I'm not even a US citizen, but I can confidently say I'm less comfortable with the CCP which is effectively committing genocide taking my data than the US government.
The fact is... some Westerners are feeling threatened by the rising influence and wealth of the Chinese, all other BS about "communism" is just part of the propaganda and narrative communicated by the West. As for Trump, I have no idea what's his real allegiance, but he is an interesting AF character. We shall see after the election. lol
Go live in China for a year and then tell people "it's all BS".
Why’s housing so expensive in Vancouver?
Then simply don't buy those products but why should other people who may be comfortable using them be prevented. If whatever country you reside in banned iOS, Android, facebook or even Gaf would you be ok?
I did live in China recently for 4-5 years recently.
The Western narrative is too dualistic; they focus on half-truths and then they put a spin on it without focusing on the reasons and background of whatever it is they are highlighting.
Then they ignite some preexisting fears and anger based on real circumstances and emotions of parts of the Western public consciousness. America is in competition with China so it is understandable that they are doing this and it is understandable for Western citizens to stick with their team. Ideally China should open up more for Western companies, but there it is complicated for social media and other corporations that can influence public consciousness so easily. I am unfortunately stuck in the middle as an ethnically Chinese dude who grew up in the West.
It's definitely not because of communism.
Hmm... it must because somebody’s buying up a lot of properties at higher than normal values. I wonder who.....

If you’re worried about security issues, look up Chinese adtech firms. Tincent isn’t the source of all Chinese data mining.Someone hasn't read up on the security issues...
It's definitely not because of communism.
All you guys defending trump know that China actually wants him re-elected right? It gives them an advantage as Trump is hurting our relationships with allies letting more and more Chinese influences in said allies countries. Its hard for me to believe that you guys think that Trump is actually smart.....
But who turned the blind eye for years so that the prices soared and they profited?
Now the Western elites are trying to redirect this anger against China.
So uh, figured I'd do a little reality check here...
Tencent is basically Chinese in incorporation location only. Its majority owned by non-chinese. I think its biggest investor is a South African company owned by a Dutch National.
Is this you Joe?
Chairman: Mr Ma is a deputy to the 13th National People’s Congress. So uh, figured I'd do a little reality check here...

Give me a bit and I can get back to you with the list of mostly banks that own most of the rest.
No, it's all the Chinese people who moved there, fleeing the very CCP you're defending.
Too simplistic. Very early on some were fleeing the CCP revolution; later on it is Hong Kong, portions of the Mainland upper-class, and other developed Asian nations immigrating willfully for whatever reason; and recently it is more average Mainlanders immigrating. Some of whom are really wealthy and want to protect their wealth, but mostly they are just average citizens. In China there is much more government control over certain aspects of the capital market, but there are still lots of people getting rich due to the size of the population. The CCP is also trying to crack down on some illegal money laundering which it is not good for those Chinese who were doing it. It's all quite complicated, different Chinese have a different opinion of China and the CCP. But the current anti-CCP stance is making the average Mainlander more patriotic I would say.
Right now I am just viewing everything as a reality show, the political situation is quite interesting, and the West has much greater influence over global media and opinion than China due to a variety of factors.
Interesting.
Who owns Naspers?
lmao at all these people thinking tronald xlumpf has to have some ulterior motive for doing this. fuck china and fuck commies.
no. i've had enough of the dunce king. its time for trump to fade slowly in the night and trip down some stairs.
I think Trump is a twat but I’m glad he’s being firm with China.
Absolutely! Just commenting on the gaming piece since this is in the gaming forum. Disney and their heavy censorship and bullshit like removing/shrinking black people from movie posters too for the China market, while we're at it. It's insane how much China has affected the US sports and entertainment industries.Cool.
But let's also get CCP money out of NBA and the Universities.
50% international, 50% South African from what I can tell. Its a big fixture in the South African economy. The ex CEO now Chairmen who did the Tencent deal is this guy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koos_Bekker
1. You’re quoting Wikipedia
2. What is 50% “International?” Where is that located on a map?
But I guess what you’re saying is the US after a company that’s totally not Chinese. A witchhunt
I'm on my way to bed, I can look things up a bit more in the morning, but from what I remember its just a bunch of foreign banks and investment firms from tons of different countries. The only real big ownership is consolidated in South Africa. That might have changed in the last few years.
My point is, sure, hate Tencent for being a big company, but uh, hating Tencent because you want to stick it to the CCP is idiotic, because the CCP doesn't have much, if any of an interest in Tencent.
My friend just came back from there.Go live in China for a year and then tell people "it's all BS".
My friend just came back from there.
Married a Chinese woman, had a kid, job etc and he left because it was unsafe to stay there.
He said they are mental. One minute everything is happy, people like you, the something happens in the news about Australia, and then they turn on you.
Even had his in-laws calling him a foreigner and to go home.
So he did. He took his son and their daughter with him.

So I can start a company in China without the blessing of the CCP?
lol, Mainland Chinese people are really nationalistic, especially the less developed areas (think of them like the Trump red states base).
I understand his sentiment, especially due to the current political climate. I think right now, especially for White dudes, it is a bit more difficult.
But it really depends on where they are and the personality of the person as well.
Hell, I really want to go back to China after the COVID situation but even I am a bit weary because of geopolitics. :/
Tencent has a lot of stakes in a lot of game companies and basically owns Epic Games.
I don't wanna be defending Trump here, but he had been talking about China and their threat long before his presidency, decades long in fact. I also don't think you understand how much having financial control over people can lead to having ideological control, just look how World Health Organisation is protecting China and covering up their evil, all because they get massive funding by them. The spread of Communism and sympathy towards Chinese government is a serious problem today, people are overlooking great evil that this country is doing because of financial incentive.
Is GAF sending my data to the CCP? No? Than stop with this false equivalency bullshit. Then simply don't buy those products but why should other people who may be comfortable using them be prevented. If whatever country you reside in banned iOS, Android, facebook or even Gaf would you be ok?
So I can start a company in China without the blessing of the CCP?China is not a communist country, there is no "spread of communism". It's as capitalist as America if not more. I don't know what you're talking about.
