I don't get this shit, why is Epic, in first place, pushing a PAYMENT METHOD, which are: Hard to develop, hard to maintain, hard to keep secure, expensive as hell, etc, etc... Only to keep the same revenues in the end? I would understand it if they were pricing their digital goods the same so they'd get that extra fees they're paying to Apple, but they're not.
I...would disagree
Merchant Services just have a secured API you submit to these days, or other services you install and submit to that; making that to submit to your bank isn't hard even if they don't have a 3rd party merchant services. Banks already have the APIs the merchant services use
That way you can design whatever front end and all it's doing is submitting Account number, security, then the amount of funds requested
All the rest of the shit they ask in transactions isn't even needed; swiping a card at the gas station is the same exact info needed to be submitted for an online transaction to a merchant services
The financial market is no where near secure it needs to be in general, but that's another discussion
This is stupid or too dark for us to understand what's really going on... Everyone knows Apple and have other alternatives in the market, they're not a charity but business, they are not a monopoly because despite their success, 80% of marketshare is still Android devices.
This is different than social media, which are not only open to the public but also public spaces in their own, this is a brand that sell premium devices at high prices so saying they're "abusing their power" is just dumb if Epic is clearly evading their fees without an evident gain, unless they're pushing other game developers to use their payment method instead of Apple's and this is just the tick of the iceberg, which would gives more context but still just assumptions.
If you could spin a company being shit, have proof they have a shit ton of fines in other territories for stuff
And could make MORE money from it across ALL platforms because of precedent created from this?
They'd be able to smack Sony, Nintendo, Apple, Google, Microsoft, ANYONE they throw Fortnite on for better access/sales cuts rates; that's a SHIT ton of money
