So you look at the toolset applied, not how well it’s been used in its application.

For example, a game with 10 rendering features that may look a bit average, is preferred by your metric than a game with 7 features that looks stunning due to how well those features were applied.

Now we’re getting somewhere. Not many people work on this sort of wavelength, probably why you get a lot of friction. Especially from Sony people who by and large value craftsmanship probably a bit higher.
Don't bother with him. I think his best work is Johny Johny kids stuff on YouTube

Not quite. When this was released you had rabid Xbox and PC fanboys hounding any and everybody associated with this demo for answers as to why this wasn't running on their platforms. Further exemplifying how big a generational jump this demo was and how jealous they were. Epic chose PS5 because of it's superior storage solution.

When the Minecraft RTX demo came out nobody gave a shit.

What I'm trying to say is while path tracing is the holy grail of graphics, we don't really care because it's just Minecraft. This Epic demo is a lot more exciting. So I flip this on you. Looking at the PS5 UE5 demo which caused much more uproar, what does this mean for XBOX?

Path tracing is much more impressive and is the future. That unreal demo will run better on the xsx. And it was 1440p at 30fps. Its already been confirmed hellblade is using it......

This convenient hair splitting chestnut? I'm not a subscriber to this particular theory, this is a console discussion. I don't have a good quality gaming PC, certainly nothing that would go close to the power of a Series X.

Xbox games are exclusively Xbox in my house. If they're not in yours, then good luck to you.

No. Your thesis is that the medium is an Xbox exclusive. It's not, as demonstrated. I really don't care if you can or cannot afford a gaming PC because that was not the point you made. You're wrong, just admit it.
 
Microsoft hasn't had the smoothest of revelations about their console, but I don't believe(despite everything) they'd be mistaken enough to go for a $599 price in 2020. If you go for that price and don't even have Halo: Infinite to back your play, it's market suicide, especially if Sony holds as long as they can and undercuts you even by $50.

That price tag nearly cost Sony everything in 2006 for PS3 and that was in a time period that wasn't one of the worst recessions in 100 year history.

I maintain neither one go above $499 for their respective disc-based versions.

At the same time, it will be a bloodbath to get these systems. Everywhere I've gone lately(trying to find a good printer), every single console system is wiped out. Empty. Everywhere.

Path tracing is still not practical to be use in games for next gen consoles, it cost too much to be even use in simple game like minecraft. Why are you so proud of it when path tracing won't be utilized in consoles for gaming? That minecraft demo is just to showoff and brag, not for use in real games, no consoles can handle that performance cost in complex animated gameplay in real- time. So no, there is nothing to see.

Something that people seem to ignore is the fact that Microsoft was proud to show the games that they showed , They pretty much thought people would be happy with current gen games at higher settings , resolution & frame rates.

The 1st time it happened everyone was like it's just 3rd party games wait until the July show then the July show came & things was even worse. The showings wasn't mishaps this is really what Xbox had planned for the start of this generation.

If the Xbox Series X did it better they would simply choose it for the UE5 presentation!
It's time to get over this, ...

Unreal Engine 5, is a commercial Engine ... and of course it will be available on all platforms that Epic can reach, Jesus if they could make it work even in a refrigerator ...
The point is that you have a product, and make no mistake the UE5 is a product, you would present it in the best condition for the whole world to see ...

And they chose PS5, because that's where they had the best version .. just accept that and move on ...
this was debated exhausted 500 pages ago, and when the games come out it will be debated again.

Not true, Sackboy, Astro bot and Destruction All Stars have been confirmed to be sub 4K so far.
I thought Astrobot was confirmed 4K, same with Destruction All Stars except for a scene where it was 1080p?
Edit: Dynamic apparently
While we're on the topic of pixel-counts, Astro's Playroom presented at 4K60 - though some clips in the trailer drop down to 1792p, suggesting a dynamic resolution solution.

Still blows my mind it may actually be close to mid-September before we actually know real information and can pre-order either of these systems..

I hope Sony is so quiet that even folks like Grubb don't know because they plan to go sometime here in August. Hard to believe both will remain silent through Gamescom, but maybe so.

i know it's very hard for you to grasp that gameplay can be captured with different camera angles.
but even then HFW cinematics are way better looking then HZD If you can disprove my claim then by all means do it..

I did. Look at the thread on HZD on PC and discuss there.

No. I believe people should be called for spouting utter nonsense. Yourself included. Just because a widely used game engine had a showcase on a specific console, doesnt mean that is the best version available.

The RT reflection quality in the Spidey MM trailers and screenshots looks exceptional. I have a hard time believing they rendering the reflections near or at full screen res on PS5 though (even taking into account cut off with roughness, softness and diffusion; they're so smooth and artifact free). However it doesn't look crispy and checker-boarded either (like GT5). Wondering if they're "injecting" their Temporal Injection solution into the reflections to bring them up to spec.

Also, I hope they use their Dynamic Res Scale + Temporal Injection tech for rendering res on PS5. Something like..

Performance Mode = 1440p+ DRS & TI+ML

Resolution Mode = 2034p+ DRS & TI+ML

Would also be nice to see VRS used as an inverse to DRS. It's preferable to selectively shade less of the less important pixels than render less pixels overall. Push overall res as high as possible and use VRS as needed, but when VRS is not there to save your bacon then resort to pushing overall res down. But use hybrid temporal injection + machine learning to reconstruct. Think of it as a triangle of elements: DRS, VRS, Reconstruction; all pushing an pulling to maintain performance while maximising the potential image quality at any given time.

Though I wonder, with the quality of Insomniac's reconstruction, motion blur, anti-aliasing and post processing pipeline; and double the reference samples feeding that in the 60fps mode; it might make the at or near-native 4K resolution mode totally irrelevant. Barring any major graphical/filtering/asset differences between modes of course...

How many games since the Xbox Series X announcement did you see that were actually running on Series X since your announcement? And yes, it is a legitimate question ..
Because since the May event, what we received were warnings from, "Series X gameplay expectation" developers saying they were looking at was the "Series X equivalent PC version" or rather even poor Craig was running on the second PC 343 itself ...

But I do not judge you, grabbing Minecraft as a lifeline is too sad to keep repeating what at this point is more than obvious ... if Halo with 5 years of development and all Microsoft infinite money is like this, it will be Hellblade ll that will save Series X ...

Sorry for any embarrassment, but we know who the deluded is in this story, good luck with that 😘

Microsoft really needs to step up on their first party offerings. So much potential with the studios they have acquired. Make some magic happen aside from the usual Halo, Forza, Fable and Gears.

Sony is rivaled only by Nintendo, the latter of which will never be beaten, in my opinion, for their top notch offerings and willingness to experiment, oft with much success.
 
You know iv been wrong this whole time. The system with less specs should run this engine much better. Epic cleary picked the ps5 to show the demo, despite accepting millions of dollars from sony. 🥱

I think that's definitely a possibility on to why the demo wasn't shown on the XSX. Simply because the hardware wasn't ready for it. I mean I haven't seen any games running on the actual console so maybe it was impossible for epic to demo the game on XSX hardware.

Sony partnership aside.
