What games would you erase from your memory to experience for the first time again if you had the chance?

Of course use spoiler tags for story heavy things.

I have often found myself thinking about how much certain games put me in complete awe the first time I played them, and while all my favorite games have extreme replayability there are certain games I oh so wish I could experience for the first time again.

One of the games I really wish I could forget and play again is The Talos Principle, I have finished it twice, and considering it is a puzzle game that is impressive by itself. But THAT ending when
you finally climb the tower, False God plays, Shepherd helps you and Samsara tries to stop you, all while Elohim holds one of the most emotional speeches a "final boss" have ever had in the ending of a game... I was so amazed the first time that I did not start any new game right after. I took a few days off just to process the game.

The entire game is really great and you get truly immersed in the universe at large.

Another contender:

Metal Gear Solid - Ground Zeroes.

Yes, I know this will raise quite a few eyebrows. But few games have made me as emotional as that one. I had just played Peace Walker before and
seeing Mother Base destroyed after all that work I put into it in Peace Walker (even played coop with a friend to 100% it) was gut wrenching. I actually stood up and punched the wall out of fury. Needless to say I was just as bound for revenge against Skull Face as Snake and Kaz in V.

All the Souls-games would be great to discover for the first time as well. I don't know anything scarier in games than coming to a new place with a lot of souls/echoes and not finding a bonfire haha!

What game(s) would you want to experience for the first time again?

I enjoy the memories I made with games so I wouldn't like to erase any of them. I can easily replay any game and have the same feelings I had the first time. Every time I play FreeSpace 2 I am awestruck when the Sathanas appears, I get misty in the eyes anytime I finish Shadow of the Colossus, Ace Combat 5 or Valiant Hearts. If a moment in a video game is great then it is great forever no matter how many times I play it. I have the same thing with movies, whenever I watch Star Wars episode 4 I always get emotional during the final segment of the trench run or when Sam picks up Frodo at Mount Doom in Lord of the Rings, every single time. The memories I have usually amplify the moment since I know it is coming and I can focus on it instead of having to process it like I have to when I see it for the first time. That is also why a game like NieR really only gets you once you do the 2nd run, because at that point you are no longer focusing on "what comes next" but you can fully immerse yourself in the touching moments.

Mmmh... first that came into mind is Return of the Obra Dinn. Brilliant, yet there is no other game like it.

I'd love to erase it from my memory and play it again.

Oh man great choices and there’s so many I would love to play again for the first time.

Portal 2
Uncharted 2
Bioshock
Shadow of the Colossus
Sonic the Hedgehog
Metal Gear Solid/Snake Eater
Super Mario 64
Goldeneye 64
The Last of Us

Mass Effect 1-3: My favorite franchise ever, I have replayed the 1st game over 15 times easily, Mass Effect 2 around 10 times and Mass Effect 3 around 4 times.

Dragon Age: Origins: I love this game so much. The scene when Morrigan gives you the ultimatum crushed me. Loved all the characters, the lore and the story.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: I still remember the first time I left the sewers and Cyrodiil's open world. My jaw was on the floor. Plus that soundtrack is one I still listen to this day.

Of the top of my head definitely Last of Us Part 2, MGS 2, 3 and 4.

4 is a weak ass game, but it still has moments I would like to experience for the first time, like the microwave sequence, the endfight with Ocelot, the Big Boss credits twist.

I would also like to experience ever mgsv trailer blind again starting with the phantom pain reveal where people still weren't sure what it was 100%. But after I saw them I would like my memories of the game back to not play it and be disappointed again what it turned out to be and realizing every cutscene was in every trailer. xD

All of my 10/10 games of course.

Mass Effect
etc.

Espcially Skyrim though. Boy, I was deep down in that universe for a couple of months when it came out.

Metal Gear Solid
I bought it in 2000, heard how brilliant it was supposed to be.
When i started it i wondered what all the fus was about, after 1-2 hours i was hooked.
I thought the story was brilliant along with how interactive it felt( codec, psycho mantis rumbling the controller, freq on the box cover etc.) .

I have since completed it about 14 times, its probably my favourite story in a game or at keast in the top 5.

Nikana

Go Go Neo Rangers!
Doom 2016 was a game I still to this day cant believe is as good as it is. Doom is my all time favorite game so I was going to be in day 1 no matter what but its fair to say everyone was a bit tepid on how it was going to be received. I was on the more positive end after seeing it E3 2015 and was very excited to see how it turned out but I think some of the worries were granted.

Playing that game Day 1 was sublime and I had this notion of like...This is really fucking good...like am I crazy...because this is more than good...

I remember that Bombcast that came out that week and hearing Brad basically skipping the intros and banter they normally do and say something along the lines of " I want to talk about Doom" just made my day.

Being alive during a time where not only was Doom back but really fucking good is a feeling I'd love to experience again as it was happening.

Metroid Prime for me. So many amazing moments on a first-time through, and just not knowing where upgrades are located would be fantastic.

Kamina

Golden Boy
As much as I would like to say Zelda OoT, MM and WW or Metroid Prime, these games are significant parts of my childhood and teenage years. Erasing these memories is like ripping out part of me.
Id probably go with something more recent, like Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro.

What if - second time you play it, fresh start, don't know anything about game and you don't like it. What then?

Guess logon to Gaf and crap on the game. Only logical next move.

Metal Gear Solid
FF8 (yup)
Gran Turismo 3
Fallout 3
The Witcher 3
The Last of Us 2 (was spoiled for me on GAF)

Sad to hear that TLOU2 was spoiled for you. It ruins the experience.
Glad to see someone who loves FF8 and Metal Gear Solid as much as I do. FF8 was my favorite game of all time until TLOU2 came out

If I had to pick just one, it would be Skies of Arcadia, on the Dreamcast.

If I could add some more, I'd also include the following:
- Phantasy Star IV
- Final Fantasy IV
- Chrono Trigger
- Streets of Rage 2
- PSO v1 (online mode in particular)
- Mass Effect 1
- Nier Automata
- Ys VIII
- Sonic 3 and Knuckles
- Snatcher
- Policenauts

And probably a couple more that I can't recall right now :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Breath of the Wild.

Even restarting now and hearing the jingle when you pick an object up for the first gives me a tingle up the spine.

What a game.

Sonic 1 and 2. What a ride.

Nostalgia usually adds to the experience for me, but I can understand why some of you would get more joy out of experiencing a surprising moment or great story over again for the first time.
