Considering the vicious campaign of denigration and bad-mouthing that a good part of the video games community has partaken in, I would say that the game did really, really well. It will most probably end up being a 10+ million seller...

I've not bought it yet, because it's obvious there will be benefits from playing on PS5 and I don't like the potential of being charged twice for the same game.
I'm sure there's a lot of people like me who see this as an early next gen game rather than a late current gen one, and this will see a surge of sales come November and Christmas. Enough to put it back in the charts? Depends on the upgrade, but time will tell.

I think Sony didn't adjust their post launch sales expectations, maybe they're in denial lol. The digital version is even "worse" than retail, it barely had any price drops.
Personally I don't think it's a good idea to keep high prices, many people (more than usual) are selling their copies and others are buying them on the used market insteading of going for a brand new copy.

The reason i didnt buy it is because i know the remaster edition will come out in less than a year on PS5, like the first Last of Us.
When a game is realleasing so late in a generation, 90 % is also releasing next gen.
I suppose more people are thinking the same way i do than i thought they would.

I just hope the message isn't "gamers hate surprises. If they have to play as a character, we need to let them know in the marketing!" While I didn't fall in love with Abby, I'm still open to the idea of marketing hiding surprise elements in games.

The Last of US 2 is the greatest game made this gen. When Sony reveals official numbers it will upset the LOU2 pitchforkers even more, when it wins GOTY, I hope some of the haters don't send Geoff Keighley death threats like they did Druckmann....

It's like the guys who never played TLOU2 before and were only pitchforking because of the leaks, they saw a game that would be 70 Meta, but instead it got a 94, how did that happen right? Now, most reviewers loved the game, so the problem is with the reviewers. The majority of people who played and loved the gameplay and the pure tatters out of LOU2 must be joking, because how comes, a game I don't like as much have so many reviewers and players loving it and completing it....
So after, or even before the journalists reviews were published, it was.
1.) Let's review bomb this on Discord guys
After LOU 2 broke records in under two days, it was;
2.) The game is going to have slow legs, it's going to have bad word of mouth, people will ask for refunds after playing this terrible game...
And they've been on part 2 ever since....Convince people at every turn that LOU2 is failing and that Druckmann messed up, and so people who did not have a chance or money to buy the game yet, they want to expunge the thought/idea from their minds. I have never seen people so butthurt by a game in history. People really wanted the game to fail at Meta and in sales. When LOU2 broke record sales, they were crushed and now that people are anticipating the holidays and PS5, where they will probably play LOU2 at 4k 60fps with factions, they are trying all tactics to smudge LOU2, but none of these tactics have worked so far........When ND releases the numbers, get ready for another round of butt-hurting goal posts curling at this years special olympics....
Despite the dark subject matter the game is actually very fun to play. If this game isn't fun then horror movies aren't fun either. The gameplay and combat is some of the best I have played. I don't get this attitude that games have to always be wacky, colorful and lighthearted or they are not fun.

This is literally how I felt. Like I reached that point and was like oh they are now right before having sex and waited for the skip...but that skip never came. 5 Seconds after the screen faded to black, the door opened. I still don't understand why they needed to add this shit.

TLOU2 suffered in a lot of ways.
Though I think the game’s biggest fault is its design and gameplay/pacing, I think that has very little influence in actual sales.
Story is what has influenced its sales and reception. Doing what they did wasn’t very well accepted; and to make things worse, it was poorly executed

Coz we needed drama about humans cheating rather than get to know more about the world and the infected.
That's the thing with Sony's exclusives once you beat the campaign there is nothing else to do. In contrast, I am still playing Halo 5--five years after it came out. While the Sony games are great--there is no engagement. There is a reason why Microsoft was pushing for multiplayer in Scalebound and the reason why they haven't really not sunk big bucks into single player games up to this point.

I'm so glad Naughty Dog gave multiplayer more time and attention than the single player portion. I think it shows they finally understand where the real meat of the game is. Factions II is going to be nuts.

The game looks beautiful and plays OK. The story is something I'd expect from a crappy post apocalyptic teen show aired by syfy.
Some devs have this weird obsession about making interactive movies that they forget that their main strength is actually what separates them from movies. No videogame is going to win an academy award really, storytelling is way behind.
I really enjoyed TLOU 1 and it's probably one of the my favorite games ever, this one missed the mark by quite a bit. Not having multiplayer was the final nail in the coffin, I tried to wait as I really enjoyed the first one but by now I've already lost all interest and moved into different games. Traded my copy in.

The irony of posting a metacritic score list saying all those games are good, but saying TLOU2 is bad despite scoring higher than all but 4 of those games. Which is it? You cant discount the metacritic critic scores, and then use it as a means to show which games are good.
