This is disingenuous, the original model MAY have. There's hypothesized rates but no one actually knows. The 360 had a 57% failure rate, i doubt that gets beaten
Console is coming in hot.People focusing on the wrong things in here, you shouldn't be worried about if you can get one or not, you should be worried about what it's going to cost.
A 50% yield rate? That's abysmal, that's probably the lowest yields of a console in history. Also this will probably net the most unstable console in history which also has the highest failure rate relative to time.
If you read the article, it seems to imply that it is the rate of production that is impacting the yield. So they are optimizing.People focusing on the wrong things in here, you shouldn't be worried about if you can get one or not, you should be worried about what it's going to cost.

It's not supposed to be 15 million at launch... You need to read things, bud.Either
1) arrogant Sony is back
Or
2) Sony are going to come in cheaper than MS.
You don't aggressively aim for 15 million consoles at launch, in a pandemic, during job uncertainty, unless you know dammed well that your product is coming in more desirable than the competition and by a long stretch.
I've got a £20 bet riding on:
Ps5 digital : £299
Ps5 disc: £349

The closer we get to reveals and even launch expect to see a lot more FUD articles.
The real story buried in the article. Not sure how I missed that. Yikes!People focusing on the wrong things in here, you shouldn't be worried about if you can get one or not, you should be worried about what it's going to cost.

Between this and the new AMD/Nvidia GPUs scalpers are about to come up.
The 360 had very poor yields before launch. This is disingenuous, the original model MAY have. There's hypothesized rates but no one actually knows.

It's a claim, no one actually knows. It's not even debatable, there's no real information.
It's funny that people are still reacting like this has any credibility whatsoever.
The yield problem doesn't come down to CU issues, it comes down to frequency stability. So MS is getting better yields on a 52 CU SOC than Sony is getting on a 38 CU SOC.
wow.
The failure rate was bad and high, ehy do you think MS never commented on it and came out with newer modelsIt's a claim, no one actually knows. It's not even debatable, there's no real information.
10 million at launch? Are you people even reading anything that's been said over the last few months? That's a projection running into the next fiscal year...Nah they doubled their production, they're gonna sell 10 million at launch. At least that's what we've been told for a few months.
Whoever could have guessed that yields for such a high clocked GPU could be quite bad?
No, people were saying that in one of the other threads just the other day. Unless the launch period is the first 6 months of release. I know because I told them they're crazy and that's not happening.10 million at launch? Are you people even reading anything that's been said over the last few months? That's a projection running into the next fiscal year...
Yikes, the misinformation is astounding.

I'd boost production too if yields were 50%. Expect those costs to be passed to gamers. The Tokyo-based electronics giant in July boosted orders with suppliers in anticipation of heightened demand for gaming in the holiday season and beyond, as people spend more time at home due to the coronavirus. But the company has come up against manufacturing issues, such as production yields as low as 50% for its SOC, which have cut into its ability to produce as many consoles as it wishes, said the people, who asked to remain anonymous because the deliberations aren’t public. Yields have been gradually improving but have yet to reach a stable level, they added.
Large, loud and considering such a bad yield, watch out for launch batches of PS5s. Don't be surprised if there's YLOD kind of thing. Wait till Sony makes more stable consoles. So, can we expect the console to be large and loud now? Idk what this all means. I hope not..
We already knew the console was comically large to the point sony has been too embarrassed to release console dimensions specifications. So, can we expect the console to be large and loud now? Idk what this all means. I hope not..
That's gonna happen when you have embedded ram and high clocks. So MS is getting better yields on a 52 CU SOC than Sony is getting on a 38 CU SOC.
wow.

RIP ? Selling 11 million units In a few months doesn’t sound like RIP ...
When 360 and PS3 got hit with RRoD and YLoD I think the vast majority of them got ironed out when each company issued new model numbers a year or so later. That yield rate is definitely concerning... Maybe missing out on an early pre order will turn out a blessing!
It's amazing watching her grow and change, hasn't walked yet but almost there. So far her teething is going well "knocks on wood" she has three big ones coming in and we bought this 1 ml drop we give her thats natural and it seems to help
They are not saying that the PS5DE will cost 399, they are saying that is it is the lowest they see it going for.50% yield issues is terrible. good luck to everyone here who wanted a ps5 at launch.
not sure what they are smoking with the $399 price tag, if the yields are that low, everything becomes that much more expensive. sony is still paying for those chips.
Large, loud and considering such a bad yield, watch out for launch batches of PS5s. Don't be surprised if there's YLOD kind of thing. Wait till Sony makes more stable consoles.
That was my take, I even predicted that Sony would have production issues with their chip clockspeeds, now we wait to see what the failure rate might be....I'm predicting higher than XSX because it feels like Sony is pushing their silicon a little too much.Console is coming in hot.
Literally.
To me this seems like a marketing tactic to make sure preorder hype is at a fever pitch when they open up and is a sure fire way make these things fly off the shelves. It’s extremely effective tactic. I just hope we’re not looking at a 360 RRod death part 2 here.
If you're right do you think Sony set the unrealistic goal of 15M to set this up and get everyone in a frenzy?Hype building tactics in full effect.
