Personally would have preferred if Microsoft acquired a big Japanese developer like Capcom.

Would definitely have made a huge difference in Japan.
They won't sell to Microsoft they would just sell to Sony. No big Japanese studio is selling to Microsoft cultural thing.

This is fucking awesome.

Did Phil Spencer see my suggestion for an isometric Fallout made by Obsidian? I think he did. And he open his cheque book because it was such a freakingly good idea.

Ohh fucking glory glory. Praise be to Microsoft. Fallout has a future again.

Seriously though this is ace.

A little miffed I may not get a VR ES6 but Its worth it to save Fallout

Say what you will about how rocky Microsoft has been lately. With a purchase like this, they’re in it to win it, and for the long haul.

It’ll be fascinating to see how this works out. Bethesda is in a bit of a downturn, but Elder Scrolls is still a preeminent name in gaming, with lots of scattered IP and developers under that, and I imagine that whatever Microsoft saw of Starfield, had to be impressive enough to continue their confidence in the buy.

An impressive move by them. I won't miss out on anything as I game on PC but it's pretty shitty for ps5 only gamers.

I don't think they'll go exclusive just because of how well they sell. MS would make way more money opening it up to every console rather than keeping it restricted to PC/Xbox. However, Bethesda has been on a downward spiral so I hope MS can straighten them out and make the ES/FO games even better.

I have one already, so no reason to play Bethesda on console.

Which, IMHO, sucks balls. And Fallout too. I understand that there are people who love them, but I never managed to digest them.

As long as they are on PCs, they are not really exclusive. Isn't that what was said about Bloodborn and other games being release on PS5 and PC?
Well, I have no interest in PC gaming, so these games are still exclusives to me.

That's the only one avowed, fable ect are not going to the PS5. This is the bargaining stage of grief. This is for the Microsoft has no exclusives crowd. Probably forced by halo and money hat Ryan
If they actually made all these franchises exclusive me plus tons of other people would buy the Series S/X but that doesn’t seem like the best financial decision Microsoft can take with ips this big. Although this is an advantage to make all the upcoming games from Bethesda available Day 1 for Gamepass compared to $70 retail for other platforms now that’s a move that would get them a lot of subscribers and profit from selling copies in other platforms as well.

Also I fucking told you all this subscription/streaming future would just lead to acquisition wars.

Large 3rd party studios will soon become a thing of the past.

Holy shit.

'If they make Evil Within 3 console exclusive (or Dishonored 3/Prey 2 for that matter), that's game over for me. I'll get an XSX.

No way in hell Elder Scrolls 6 or Fallout 5 will be exclusive though. No chance.

what happens to Ghostwire Tokyo?

That's a great question. I doubt it'll still be PS5 exclusive at this point.

Tbh it hasn't generated any hype and didn't look too good at all. I'm hoping it gets cancelled and they get straight to work on the next Evil Within.

Woah. That definitely wasn’t what I thought was gonna happening today. Hahahaha. Thought there was gonna be a 50$ price decrease. Not a 7.5 billion studio being added. Soooooo does that mean death loop and that Tokyo game will not be exclusive to Sony for a year now hahaha.

Awesome.

And I thought naysayers said the Xbox division is so broke making no profits they can't get help from the overall MS corporation for funding?

As one guy said "divisions run separate". LOL

Told ya so armchair internet accountants. It's the parent company as a whole that controls the coffers and where funding goes.
Lol of course it's MS who is responsible for Xbox's funding but if you believe that Xbox division has unlimited access to MS's money you're naive AF. Because if that was true they would have bought half the industry by now.
7.5 billions are still peanuts for MS and if Xbox closed shop next day MS wouldn't even blink.

As for the topic, congrats to MS. I never liked any Bethesda game ever personally but obviously this is huge. It will be interesting to see from a business standpoint if they can afford to have all of those IPs exclusive to MS's ecosystem.

So anti-consumer :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Seriously though, this is massive. Will save me some money if all these franchises come to Gamepass.

Indeed.

This move from MS makes me start believing on them.

When they bought Ninja Theory I was like: ok.

Now I am: Oh shit! Xbox is in the game.

That's a lot of money, I wonder if it'll be worth it in the long term.
Bethesda wasn't exactly on the rise. Several of their single player games bombed and got sold for dirt cheap very fast.

Well done Sony... you ignored me and everything I posted here..... you fucking absolute morons.

Now you lose.

Jim Ryan is disconnected from reality.

Putting old guys like that in charge of gaming divisions is always a bad idea.

Bet he wasn't even privy to this even though he was signing off on deals for deathloop to be a timed exclusive. Literally putting money in the pocket of his competition.

7.5 billion!?! Hell the entire gaming industry was worth around 18 billion in 2017! this is crazy on just 1 publisher..

Next will be Sony purchasing 2K and EA as retaliation!

This is might be a BIG step down a dangerous path for the entire industry if Sony follows suite..
