Microsoft aren't spending $7.5 billion to have Bethesda games appear on PlayStation. Apart from Deathloop/Tokyo Wire and any other existing projects - all future Bethesda games will probably be Xbox/PC exclusive.

Biggest move in gaming history for the last god knows how many years...forever?

I'm not a huge fan of Bethesda's games - always ridden with bugs, but I think Xbox Series S is a definite buy from me now.

Really haven’t cared for Fallout since New Vegas and I’m not big fan Bethesda jank in general. HOWEVER, what I am excited about is all these Zenimax studios will get to branch out for new IPs since they will have a dedicated publisher as a MGS. Can’t wait for some innovation from those teams.

This is massive. 23 studios. Some big IPs. Doom, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Skyrim, Starfield, Wolfenstein. All on gamepass.

Damn. So much for the "no games" and "shovelware gamepass fodder" memes.

When one company buys another one and games go exclusive, people suddenly go like there's no more games left for the other console and it is huge and something or the other must be doomed.

Good for Microsoft and Xbox gamers.
All the same to me because Bethesda's games are not for me.

I agree though that the whole exclusivity thing is getting out of hand. Seems stupid to me.

The real test will be when ES6 arrives in 2021 and if it goes to Playstation 5. I'll believe Phil when that does NOT happen.

So, more than likely, Fallout and Elder Scrolls will remain on Playstation for the big bucks, while smaller games like Wolfenstein, Prey, Doom etc. go MS exclusive.

I would do the opposite...the more attractive IPs exclusive with the smaller ones shared.

TES and Fallout, TES especially just sell too much. I don't think you can convince the millions and millions of people who only play TES on Playstation to buy a whole new system, I doubt it'd be worth it in the long run. Make it multiplat but give Xbox owners Game Pass day one and other exclusive benefits.

This is huge, I was already about 55/45 in favor of going X Series (some bigger games closer to launch on PS5 could easily sway me in that direction) but this... now I'm more like 80/20 in favor of X series (well I'll get PS5 later in a lower price)

Sony been buying up exclusives since they entered gaming. This a a huge bomb laid upon them by MS. As an old Sega fan I can’t lol any harder.

So much for MS not taking gaming seriously.

Exclusives are anti-consumer and should die already. All games should by LAW be multi-plat and the console makers can compete on hardware features.

No, it should be the completely opposite. All games should by LAW be exclusive to their platform. We'd finally have the sense of identity back in consoles instead of everything morphing into same gray mess.
Hardware features are so close to each other these days that games in each console will be nearly identical and where's the point in having multiple consoles anymore.

Back in the day the graphics and sound chips were so drastically different that the games were bound to have different audiovisual feel to them even if the game was the "same" for every console. Different music, different colors. Now it's about counting how many lines of pixels the game has and are there any frame drops, or how many seconds it takes to load a scene. And a lot of that is something people can't see by themselves but are counting on Digital Foundry to make a scientific test, and people will then point out some results article and point at the numbers. Boring bullshit.

This is a hot take and a controversial take and I will die on this hill.

Well if you can't come up with new first party games, may as well buy a studio that actually produces decent ones.

It's a smart move.

Still outnumbered and outclassed by Sony’s studios. Heres hoping they force them to create a new IP. Theres literally just 1 coming up and God knows when it will be finished.

Everwild is the only new IP Microsoft announced so far. Everything else are sequels and even The Initiative is making Perfect Dark remake.

My larger view on this is Microsoft dropped the ball with first party over a decade ago when they shifted focus to TV, Kinect and Sports. This is them paying a penance price for the Don Mattrick horrible regime. XBox in 2020 is unrecognizable compared to 2013. If you'd told me back then what XGS would be now, I'd have thought that person a lunatic.

Time exclusive is my guess - 1st year on gamepass, after that port to PS with a crappy company and still charge full price

I think some people are missing the point of the acquisition. This is clearly to beef up what's available on game pass/streaming, not sell more hardware than Sony. Having these titles available on game pass at launch is extremely expensive on a per title basis if you don't own the studios. As more AAA titles go to game pass, more players go to game pass, Microsoft will get other AAA titles to release on game pass at a much lower rate due to "owning" the audience.

That's not what you guys were saying a few weeks ago when Spiderman comes to the new Avengers game as an exclusive. I wonder why there's a change now?

You guys?, I don't have an issue with either Sony or Microsoft, my main console is the Switch.

Anyone who thought differently played themselves. Expect announced PS5 exclusives to honor thier contracts then release on XSX. Case by case, imho means switch pro or a yr later on PS5 for select titles. Day and date on GP though, so I couldn't be happier. We can all eat, just not at the same table
