Microsoft are going to announce The Acquisition of SEGA next Wednesday (Believe!)

Feels like they can say anything now, and people will believe it. It would be something, though.

It would make a lot of sense for MS to grab Sega.

It would give them an in road in Japan and while Sonic is not what it used to be its still decent.

But the main thing people forget about Sega is Creative Assembly. Microsoft would get the Total War franchise. Its a LOT bigger than you would think.
Oh shit i forgot about Creative Assembly. I'm pretty sure Phil said in an interview once that he was a big fan of Alien Isolation, possible sequel coming?, gulp.

The thing about this rumor that makes no sense to me:

Why spend that kind of cash on a market that has clearly rejected you over and over? It won’t result in a foothold in the Japanese market, it’ll just result in Japanese gamers not buying Sega products. Like Bethesda I can see, it’s in your primary market, TES sells gangbusters. But Sega? Would make no sense.
Sega have a huge presence in the West and more western studios than Japanese ones. Still don't think this is going to happen.

As an Xbox fan I'd be excited for more exclusive content. As a gaming enthusiast, this would be awful. This would be closer to to a monopoly than I'm comfortable with, and would only fuel the fanboy conspiracies of MS becoming a 3rd partystudio/service provider in the future.

I could see Sega wanting to part ways with some studios potentially, but that’s honestly about it.

Which would also make them own Atlus who have been killing the JRPG game for years. Would be a blow to everyone if those were made exclusive.

This sounds like nonsense though.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've read today. Sega's gaming division is literally their only moneymaker at the moment.

Due to Covid? The only reason 'Sega Entertainment' now surpasses pachinko in their quarterly break downs is because they rolled 'amusement machine sales' and 'amusement centre profits' that used to be their own two separate sections all into one with 'entertainment content' that includes gaming my SEGA stock has been an up and down ride but I stick firm on the belief of a one day buy out from a larger partner.

they already spend 7.5b i doubt they gonna keep going not to mention acquisition of zenimax is already huge for ms.

:) . BTW What's Phil doing in Tokyo? He wouldn't be there for no reason right? Perhaps he's coming in as a conqueror to claim the head. Will we get the sequel for Ghost Of Tsushima. Where instead of Mongols , Japan's now being invaded by MS Robots from the future :D
Phil is doing the Lord's work right now. He's going from sea to sea, conquering evening in front and around. People laughed at him, but he's still smiling.

You may want to be careful with that stock, because you obviously don't have the slightest idea of the situation of Sega's businesses over the past few years.

Well they have been tossing the Yakuza games on gamepass, and "Like a dragon"'s Ps5 release date is now just "TBA" its being promoted with Series X, plus the pso2 stuff being advertised at the series x show 🤷🏾‍♂️

But i dont believe any 4chan shit...Its pretty obvious theyre doing some type of promo deal or might be. Maybe some timed dlc for yakuza l.a.d seems more likely

It won't. It's too late. People should have been more conscious back in the mid 2000s.
It's not fair that they can just throw money around and therefore gain an unfair advantage in the gaming market. These acquisitions wouldn't negatively effect me since I have a gaming PC, but I don't support them.

Microsoft needs to gain traction in the gaming market the hard way: pushing the development teams that they already have to produce quality games, rather than removing talent from the multi-platform market.

Why would they buy Sega? japan is lost to MS and Sega won't change that. What games does Sega make that appeal to a large audience anyway? Sonic isn't what it used to be, Panzer Dragoon isn't a huge deal and while I love the Yakuza series that's being taken in a new and strange direction. Nothing about Sega seems like it'd be an appealing target for acquisition by an American gaming company which also presents challenges of it's own.

they have like 28 studios that are working on games. They even have an AAAA studio. Maybe you should tell them they’re doing it wrong and what they “need” to do lol.

Werent you blowing smoke up Sony's arse in the 'RUMOUR Sony has paid for loads of 3rd part exclusive, offered more money than Microoft' thread?. I know most Sony fans were with their 'its just business' rhetoric.

But i mean has 4chan ever been wrong before?

Even if this happened the person on 4chan would have just gotten a guess correct

MS buys Bethesda: "I never liked their games anyway"

MS buys SEGA: "I never liked their games anyway"

MS buys Nintendo: "I never liked their games anyway"

MS buys Take Two: "I never liked their games anyway"

Really funny some of the responses here. Especially since none of the games would disappear, they just -might- not release on one particular platform in the future.

I don't remember. Also, buying timed exclusivity or paying for a perpetually exclusive game is not the same as outright buying a third-party studio.

Sure a Japanese company lining up with a company that has a dead console on that specific market. Seems like the logical step to take.

Guys, please.

Around 15 years or so ago, authorities would act on Microsoft. But they're one of the biggest lobbyists in congress now, therefore pretty much unstoppable.

Make no mistakes, they are taking over the industry and are going to gateway everything everyone plays. This isn't just about "crushing Sony". It's about absolute control.

True gamers who love the hobby should not support this. But here we are.

Would they also get the arcade and mobile divisions? I think that would be unlikely.
