I'm now wondering if this is more of a large library of older existing Sega games coming to xbox through BC/GP and showing all the enhancements to people's favorite titles. Maybe an exclusive here or there too...? I do doubt a full on acquisition. (I would love to see them go in together on a Japanese Xbox though)

I'm thinking a Sega branded xbox with Sega ip would raise their dead profile in Japan. SEGA gave a great list of ips to bring into modern games.

Sure it could happen but I just don't see it happening. Bethesda made sense but what are some big blockbuster games that Sega has that Microsoft would want to acquire? If there are some do they even appeal to most Xbox users (who are typically American)?

Microsoft is trying to pull in niche gamers that like Japanese games who have had no interest in Xbox. It's like they finally realized they have the money to just buy everyone out. It's a lot like the Disney strategy.

Coincidence?

Opening your pre orders one day after your presentation at the TGS is far from a coincidence.
Don't know how credible the "right after the SEGA presentation" part is - that one start at 8pm (JP time) and goes for an hour. And pre orders starting at 9pm in the evening seems very unlikely.

What is the point of rebranding the console to Sega? Are the Japanese really that vacant? It has to be more than that.
It wouldn't be a trick - a little bit of paper glued over the Xbox symbol. The rumours said Sega would handle all the marketing and use their connections locally to help garner more support for "their" console.

Thats even less likely than a buyout in my opinion, but it's not entirely a bad idea.

This would essentially become the Dreamcast 2, but with Microsoft funding behind it. Super powerful box backed by a super deep wallet making super beloved games that the Japanese community gets to benefit from. Nothing to be vacant about really.

But my point is that if its the same as an XSX anyway, does the Sega branding alone make it more appealing in Japan? Seems silly to me.

I doubt this is true, if it is. I'll rebrand my name into a "Miyazakihateskojima" screen-name, maybe into a "Sony employee hates microsoft employee" name, pm me votes.

100% yes. It being a "Japanese" Product makes it 10x more attractive in Japan even if it's the exact same thing

yeah. But who cares about the Japanese home console market? Everything is mobile/handheld there. The home console market is dead basically, no?

I think the idea is to raise brand awareness and get them hooked on gamepass and therefore Xcloud.

Weird. I thought the Japanese were wiser than that.

It's more about them being Xenophobic.

I miss the time when we had different designs for the same consoles in Japan and the rest of the world. It was so cool and esoteric in a way. It was so cool to go to a friend's house and they had the Super Famicom instead of SNES. It did the same thing but it looked way cooler.

I also had the Japanese Mega Drive with the golden 16 Bit and I hated the design of the Genesis with the huge Genesis over it.
