Well, darn. So, only the FE is a safe, worthy purchase? How about PNY's 3080s and 3090s?

No idea how the PNY cards stack up against the other AIB's, you will need to find a specific review on that card that also does a teardown.

Based on what we know I'd say the FE is the best all rounder (good capacitor configuration, best overall PCB quality, best cooler), while the Asus is the next best alternative (best capacitor configuration, ok PCB overall, good cooler).

Of the AIB's I'd only be comfortable buying the Asus or something from EVGA (the latter because of EVGAs fantastic warranty policy and customer service).

I'm tired of waiting. I just ordered the PNY GeForce™ RTX 3090 24GB GDDR6X XLR8 Gaming EPIC-X RGB Triple Fan Edition from Office Depot.

I've read a release statement by Gainward (whose cards are rebranded by PNY and therefore are the same) that their RTX 3090s use a combination of 4 SP-CAP capacitors on the back of the chip and 20 MLCC capacitors.

Gainward said:
Announcement on SP-CAP Capacitors and MLCC Capacitors of Gainsun 30 Series Graphics Card Products

Dear Gainward consumer players:

Thanks to the friends who bought and supported Gainward. Recently, we received the voice of market players’ inquiries. Many players are very concerned about our company’s just released 30 series products. Regarding the specific usage of the capacitors on the back of the chip, we hereby explain the situation:

All the RTX 3080 10GB graphics cards released by Gainward currently use 5 SP-CAP capacitors on the back of the chip and 10 MLCC capacitors. The versions currently on the market are all the original commercial versions.

All the RTX 3090 graphics cards released by Gainward currently use 4 SP-CAP capacitors on the back of the chip and 20 MLCC capacitors. The versions currently on the market are all the original commercial versions.

As a long-term AIC partner of Nvidia, Gainward has always been adhering to the product standard to design and produce completely according to Nvidia’s requirements. Therefore, currently players are concerned about the problem of capacitors and new product failures on the Internet. Currently Gainward has not generated such feedback. .

In addition, all Gainward graphics card products support three-year warranty and personal warranty service. Thank you consumers and players for your support and love to Gainward.

TBH Founder Editions have the best quality for quite some time, it was always the blower design that (rightfully) made them look like a worse value compared to AIB cards, but when it comes to watercooling for example, the FE boards are usually the way to go, as they often reach 50-100MHz higher OC.

Okay I'm in a fortunate conundrum considering current circumstances. I have a 3080 & 3090 coming in. Me and my wife both game on a 1440p monitor, mine is an ultrawide. She does digital art but no animation or heavy intensive graphics design, etc.

My idea was the sell the 3090, buy a 3080 and just pocket the change. The fact that nobody seems to be getting consistent stock of the 3080 makes me concerned I'll even be able to do this in the short term.

OR I could just say fuck it and keep the 3090 and feel bad for spending too much money on something where I'm gonna see a negligible improvement @ 1440p on my ultrawide.

I have a bit of a decision to make...

Keep the 3080 FE arriving today, or trade it for a 3090 FE. Friend of mine wants a 3080 FE instead but ordered the 3090 FE because it was just available at the time of release and he rushed it. He's willing to just trade the card and I'll pay the difference. Part of me wants to but another part of me realized I'll need to upgrade to a 4k monitor from 1440p for it to even be worth it, which adds another $800+ to something I can barely rationalize buying in the first place. Its really tough to justify the price of the 3090 vs the small performance gain, and I feel like by the time the 3090's VRAM becomes relevant to me I'd be looking to upgrade to the 5080 or potentially AMD 7XXX series if they can prove competitive over the course of the next few years.

What's the refresh rate of the 1440 monitor? You can always play with downsampling too improve IQ also.

Kind of similar situation as me (3090 vs 3080). I'm thinking we might need to get a 4k monitor to make it worth the extra $$$$ for the 3090. So I'm leaning towards the 3080 myself.....

Wait for your 3080 dude even that Is overkill for 1440p. Sell your 3090 and look into Zen 3 :)

The lady will benefit from the 3090 more than you. Let her have it and you take the 3080. Its more than enough for what you need mate

Honestly, if I can't find a 3080 until CP2077 then I won't even bother getting one aftewards. Not much interesting stuff early next year for such a beast anyway.

Make the trade, upgrade your display later.

Option C. Buy a 4K display. Boom, problem solved.

Zotac are offering “free” mooncakes to all the people with faulty gpu’s. People paid 700+ to get free mooncakes as an apology. Cheap cunts just like how they cheaped on their gpu’s...

Are people here just using bots too, because I have literally not seen anything listed the past couple days and yet see several people here saying they were able to get one.

I thought about this but am already set on buying a 34" 1440p Alienware ultrawide. But I did consider going up to 4k, even looked at some 4k ultrawide monitors but there aren't really any on the market geared for gaming,it's mostly professional use.

Hi there. I own an Alienware 34" 21:9 monitor. It is indeed a great choice. 3440 x 1440 for the win.

Is there a way to determine the number of power phases on a graphics card by looking at its PCB? The following are photos of the PCB of Palit's RTX 3090, which is therefore also the PCB of PNY's RTX 3090 (since PNY uses the same designs as Gainward).

This is fucking hilarious.

I feel sorry for people that ended up with faulty cards from them. Fucking mooncakes LOL.

I have a Zotac FE 1080, still holding up great.

Maybe I should ask in this thread, instead of the build a PC one.

Should I upgrade from a 1080 to 3070? I have a 6700k. I might upgrade cpu next year, but now is not the time for me.

* I see some people have had issues with new Zotac cards. I always thought Zotac and PNY were the bottom of the barrel but I took what I could get when the 1080 came out and I've had no problems what so ever. Sucks there's some problems. Hell, I thought FE's were all the same just rebranded? Atleast I did when I bought my 1080 at launch.
