Scorn Xbox Series X Trailer

What is the premise of the game, where is all this happening? is that hell, is this a factory or prison in hell, a spaceship? And who is the main protagonist and what is he/she doing there?
I took a look at the gameplay and it looks rather bland. I will take a wait and see approach, what I have seen got me a mixed reaction.

That was a super interesting trailer. Unfortunately it seems like these things are too ambitious and end up sucking. I would like to see actual gameplay of the game and learn more about what it is about. the design is incredible.

The devs are being obtuse about it. Could be that's part of the mystery.

As others have said, got a Prometheus vibe. Doubt I'm getting both consoles next gen (have previously), but if this is an xbox exclusive it's a title that could sway me. Proper chills from the trailer, and that's never happened to me before.

One of the best games of the event

Dev quote -

On XsX version

"It was about bringing it in line with the PC version", says game director Ljubomir Peklar when I ask what the thinking was behind releasing Scorn for the new Xbox. "We don't want to make any compromises and Series X certainly enables us to do just that."

I ask what, specifically, Series X offers the team that current-gen consoles couldn't: "It's mostly evolutionary improvements that are going to make the biggest difference. The most important one is elimination of the CPU bottleneck that exists in the current-gen consoles and much faster loading of assets thanks to the SSD. It's all about responsiveness and not having to wait on things."

On Unreal Engine

Scorn is being built in Unreal Engine 4, and appears to be an exercise in pushing those tools as far as they'll go - Peklar doesn't say it outright, but Ebb appears to be aiming for high resolution and framerates as much as it is shiny (or should that be slimy?) new looks: "If developers decided to opt for lower resolutions and 30fps they could get more spectacular results, like in the new Unreal 5 showcase few days ago. What you have to remember is that responsiveness and motion clarity are also part of the overall presentation, so you would still be losing detail in a sense."

On Exclusivity

What remains less clear is whether Series X is the only console platform on which Scorn will arrive. When I ask if this is a Series X exclusive, or if it could hit PS5 sometime after launch, Peklar says he can't discuss that information. We still don't know if the game will come to Steam and Windows Store simultaneously with Xbox Series X, either.

Some other studios that couldn't "discuss that information" were later announced as new XGS acquisitions. If these guys were having trouble staying solvent and Xbox stepped in it's not unreasonable to think they might pick up the studio as a whole.

Don't post stuff like this it hurts the narrative about MS holding back next gen!
Why would it hold anything back when the game has been in development since 2014? Its not like previous gen couldn't handle UE4 lol. Game has a great artstyle but its not exactly "next-gen".

Looking forward to playing it but I highly doubt its coming out this year :messenger_anguished:

We will see how it compares to Doom Eternal the best looking 60fps first person shooter of last gen.

CliffyB's Cock Holster

I guess there might be a game in there somewhere, but 7 minutes-worth of asset-flybys and basic cut-scenes don't impress me in the slightest. The art-direction and overall quality is good, but its wholly derivative and very samey. I mean the novelty of having nicely rendered ersatz Bekzinkski and Giger artwork wears thin just in this trailer.

Whats more damning is the one bit that appears to be user controlled is a painfully over-extended reload animation, that in the context of actual gameplay is sure to become aggravating as hell past the first viewing.

Bottom line: If this was a scene demo it'd be pretty good, but as a promo for a game? Fail.

It looks awesome but I do share some concerns others expressed on how it's going to play..
As a young metal head I obsessed over Gigers works so it is of interest to me.

Temper expectations, we haven't even seen the game yet outside of it's art style. Hopefully we get some game footage in October.
