Does anybody know if it's possible to leave (for arguments sake) Dirt 5 on external hard drive and i try to play it from there and i know it won't play XSX version but if it were allow me to play the XB1X version from there i think would be pretty cool. I'm just thinking of instances where i want a quick blast and i can't be bothered to transfer it.

Also I'm assuming if i buy my son the new Cod (X version) I can still game share if one of us is on a XSX the other is on XB1X ?

Not quite but thanks. I don't think people with the preview console have new titles. I'm on about new cross gen titles playing on the XSX but playing the XB1X version as it is on a external 5200HDD for instance where i couldn't be arsed to transfer to internal ssd for the XSX version.

I think he was more questioning if there is an upgraded version of the game (All the ones with upgrades run off the SSD) does he have to take the upgrade or can he run the B/C version instead (without all the upgrades) off his HDD.

With the series X it all upgraded automatically, I don't think you could decline the upgrades Bogroll Bogroll , they really haven't been clear on that for the series X either. I'm pretty sure with Smart Delivery they are going to try to push the Series X updates out to you automatically. Which also leaves me wondering what if you pull your HDD off your series X and plug it into your XB1 after? Is the game going to be playable.

Edit: He replied to you while I was typing.

I don't think that will work as smart delivery detects what console you are on and all the versions might be one file. I have games on an external SSD and I take them from my X1X to my X1S and they just play. I can't be certain it will work the same but that's how it works now.

The game sharing should still work ok as long as his machine is your primary console.

I know what you're asking and don't know.

I tried doing a google check and couldn't any forum or thread asking the same thing.

Cross your fingers though. I have a One X myself and if the system can do it's enhancements off an external HDD, I don't see why Series X can't do the same One X enhancements to HDD games either, unless your system has to be One X. In which any games ran off an external HDD hooked up to a Series X gets dumbed down to base Xbox One quality? Who knows.

If you move the harddrive from previous systems to Series X and play off HDD the additional assets will not be added to the game. That’s why they said you have to move it to the SSD to get that BC games updated frames to work. If you leave it on he HDD your playing the Xbox One version.

I'd say no. Its going to likely look at some sort of ID on the console level not the HDD.

And I'd assume yes on the second one.

But these are guesses.

I clicked this curiously awaiting an AMA (as the title suggests) and I ended up with 2 minutes of wasted time. Fuck youtubers and their clickbait.

Yeah I added that it was just a preview or her wanting questions for the future to answer I didnt watch it until you said something just wanted to get it moved here.

The SSD talk is funny as heck. Been using ssds for 5+ years on PC and even had them on my consoles even though they were limited.

Like we all know how ancient console hardware was. It was ancient the first day it released.

But who gives a crap about ssd's. Gaming SSD speed means nothing. I have had $100 tb ssd's and the new pcie gen 4 ssds and its all the same while gaming. As long as you have a ssd your good.

Now if these consoles wanted to show something impressive they would support ultra wide monitors, show us 1440p 120hz gameplay. SSD speeds are just a given and something everybody's had for along time.

Some serious night and day differences to loading times, just goes to show the importance of ssd tech in next gen. Series X loading has been on point so far and that’s just unoptimized bc games. Imagine next gen only games, can’t wait!

Credit where credits due, MS knew they had an opportunity to go in first and got the positive word of mouth via influencers and youtubers like Tom warren, mkbhd, Austin evans to name a few and it’s really working out well for them so far. Wherever I go on Twitter I just see “I’ve got an Xbox series x” tweet from people I don’t even follow. So yeah this is good sign and shows a lot of confidence from MS. This sorta confidence was clearly lacking in them when the current gen began 7 years ago. Go MS!

Main problem most people don't buy new consoles that cost 499 to play old "shitty" games. Mainly for new ones.

Yes agreed. But the thing is there’s a vast library of current gen games missed out by Xbox audience who would get series x and all they need to pay beyond $499 is a monthly sub that’s it, instant access to the whole library. We will soon find out if the series x sells out in first year or not!

It is a credit to the BC team those guys are wizards. Yes it is great to see both companies with confidence this time around. I honestly think this will be the best generation yet. Sony has the greatest studios in the world. I really believe in most of the studios Microsoft purchased especially the RPG focused ones. Between them 36 studios pumping out games.

But you do know all those pc games have to be built with a mechanical hard drive in mind but at least with a ps5 the ssd is standard and a game can be built around that

to be fair, I wouldn't trust a GameSpot dude over anyone xD
who knows if he even went into the display settings after hooking it up to it lol

Well he did list the output resolutions. It can output in 1440p which is cool for monitors and VRR on some TV limitations, but no widescreen.
